What does everyone think of the next choice for Doctor Who? I think he'll play him brilliantly and hopefully turn the Doctor a little more dark and sinister but who knows?!

It's Peter Capaldi if you were unaware.

When is it starting?

And I didn't get the last episode of the season at all, well now that I seen him.
I thought the new doctor was the guy they showed right at the end of the episode?

There is the 50th year anniversary episode in November and then Matt Smith regenerates into the new Dr in the Christmas special.

You mean John Hurt.. it's still unknown what his role in Doctor Who is yet.. he had something to do with the time war I believe but who knows where he will come into it.

Isn't he the guy from Torchwood who convinced the world to hand over their kids to aliens that eat them, and subsequently ended up going postal on his entire family?
Seems like a perfect choice. Anything can be better than the shit that was the last doctor.

I am hoping that it is a trick. I am not saying anything bad against the actor though I think it was a bad choice since of the guy he was on Torchwood. But it would be amazingly funny if they could fool everyone and when he did regenerate if he does at the time it would be someone completely different. Most likely it is not that but that would be really great if they fooled everyone like that.

Though I wonder what he will wear. Maybe it will be ruffles.

Yeah there was that, but besides I think he'll play him well and only time will tell.

I started watching the series when Christopher Eccleston was in it, then lost interest with the Matt Smith series. I might give this new doctor a go.

I still am wondering if it does not turn out to be a trick which I hope it is because that would be such a trick how he will play it and what will he wear.

Ok, this has to be said:
Peter Capaldi is a class actor, with a proven track record.
His selection, considering his age (mid fifties) to my mind, suggests a shift back towards a more edgier Doctor, viz Christopher Eccleston . I for one would welcome such a change.

However, I loved his role as Malcolm Tucker in The Thick of It/In the Loop.
Here's hoping actress Gina McKee becomes a Doctor's companion.
Though I doubt, though I hope, that they will reprise Malcom's classic line "Allow me to pop a jaunty little bonnet on your purview and ram it up your shitter with a lubricated horse cock!" to her.

I adore Peter Capaldi and am glad they went with an older doctor. (Boris Johnson would be comedy gold as a companion) I've been watching vids of Peter in The Thick of It, the Daleks are f**ked if they get into a slanging match with him

Like Magnus my interest in the show waned when Tennant left but I still watched the Smith eps but without the same enthusiasm.

Oh, and i guess the Doc's still not ginger.

A friend got me to start watching this and like most people that have never watched before I started with the 10th doctor.. course netflix is the devil and there are 2 season that i havent see yet so I wont be starting right away for the new shows.
in a way though i think it kind of makes sense that the doctor appears older with this new regen..
and hey at least he's gonna have eyebrows right?

I remember who Peter Capaldi is now! From reading what _TB said I remember seeing him in The Thick Of It. I'll definately be watching Doctor Who now.

I thought Eddie Izzard is too busy running against Boris Johnson for the position of town jester.

Anyone else somewhat 'meh' on Peter Capaldi being the 12th doctor? I'm totally giving him a chance it was just not what I expected at all and so I'm just kinda left

Oh I know, when I saw him at first I was like 'no' but then I was like 'wait, wait, lets give him a chance, my mom didn't like Matt but she ended up loving him'. So basically I'm giving him eight episodes and I'm pretty sure that he will make me love him.
