2012 had a lot of crap sequels, along with some bad remakes but it was an ok year for movie fans.

List of 2012 films
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_in_film

I say these are the ones I liked from 2012
==========================================
Flight
Hobbit
Avengers
Dark Knight Rises(though not nearly as good as the first two)
Red Tails
Lincoln
Lockout
Battleship
Abraham Lincoln Vampie Hunter
Total Recall - One of the rare remakes that doesn't suck and pays homage to the original film in certain scenes.
Dredd - Again another rare remake that was done well especially with a budget half as much as the original.
Bourne Legacy - This was good although the ending was a little lackluster it sets it up for future films for which I can't wait to see.
Expendables 2 - Famous stars, Micheal Bay-esque explosions, and plenty of action with thin cliche action plot = awesome.
Lawless
Looper
Man with the Iron Fists - Written and directed by RZA for which he also stars in as the main character its one wild wacky take on the stylized martial arts wire fu genre.
Killing them Softly
Jack Reacher

Films that I hated
===================
Prometheus
007 Skyfall
The Amazing Spiderman
Resident Evil Retribution - I think they should just stop the series since this was one of the worst ones.
Paranormal Activity 4 - Don't need to watch this to know it failed just like the past 2...

Films that were a little too weird for me
=========================================
Cloud Atlas - Seen it twice and still get confused
Taken 2 - Not sure why they made a sequel when the first one was good enough.

i'd dare say that Man with the iron fists relates to the chinese wuxia genre like Kill Bill relates to the japanese chanbara genre .. it's obviously very over the top and you can tell that he's a fan of the genre and tried to put way too much stuff into it but it has a lot of strong points and i had a lot of fun watching it ...

I simply call it wire fu

It is interesting how many thought that film was made by Quentin Tarantino when in reality RZA used him as more of a consultant when making it.

I heard Lincoln was really! I've also heard a lot of great things about Tarantino's Django unchained, someone on my Facebook told me it's better than Pulp Fiction, I'm afraid I'll have to call shenanigans before even seeing the flick... I haven't actually seen many 2012 movies, buy I've seen every Batman of this trilogy on opening night, Rises was no exception... Absolutely loved it! Tom Hardy is f**king awesome!

wire fu is a technique often used in wuxia films and series but not all wuxia films use wire fu .. a "recent" example is The sword identity which has no wire fu at all

you wouldn't happen to know of any good martial arts films in recent years that is more realistic and grounded(meaning little to no use of wire fu)?

Past few years I havn't seen a lot of good martial arts films or historical asian films.

The sword identity - has no wire fu at all which i took as a criticism of the genre's shift toward flamboyant visual spectacle over the last decade or so ... i enjoyed it because it focuses a lot on the internal conflicts of the characters and their strength of character rather than physical prowess ... this might make the brief fight sequences "unsatisfying" to some viewers expecting an action movie

that one is easy to remember because it has no wire fu at all .... i can recommend others but its always hard to remember if they have a lot or little because i watch way too many

so other recent (2 or 3 years) martial arts movies i enjoyed :
Wu Dang , The Four, Wu Xia (storyline is similar to History of Violence), The Lost Bladesman, Shaolin, Reign of Assassins

The Flying Swords of Dragon Gate - fun kind'a old-school approach with tons and tons of wire fu .. still a cool movie though if you're up for an action movie

Mystical/Fantasy : The sorcerer and the white snake, Painted Skin 2

Historical movies: the ones immediately pop up are The Warring States, White Vengeance, Red Cliff (look for the asian 2-movie release and not the cut down western version), Hua Mulan

Something completely different :
The Bullet Vanishes ... action/mystery with Nicholas Tse

mega productions to avoid at all costs: True Legend and Legendary Amazons

well as for me 2012 was a horrible time for movies....there were sooo many bad ones it wasn't even funny....some examples woule be

Resident Evil Redemption....I think that's the new one

Batman: the new one(Dark Night Rises)

Winnie the Pooh(The disney Remake of the original)

2012

those are the few I can remember right now that I was dissapointed with but 2012 did give us some good ones like

Ted

a bunch of new horror and zombie movies.....I know horror is kind of declining but I love gore and violent films.

Wreck It Ralph(My new favorite disney film of all time now)

All in all I guess it wasn't good...but it was a ok year....just make sure you know what you buy and you'll be good.

Hit & Run. Very funny movie. Not quite 'Dirty Mary and Crazy Larry' but better than 'Smokey and the Bandit'.
