the hell is sword art online! sounds like some cheap cookie cutter cliche anime

EDIT: Started watching it a few weeks back when episode 5 aired and its a good series although the final few episodes kind of take more of a typical drama approach.

as for suggestions try these - id post trailer but thats a pain on my mobile.
Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood
Death Note
Gundam 00 - two seasons and one movie
TigerXBunny - funny anime about heroes having company sponsors and they fight crime. has very good animation and currently a second season is being made
Tenjou Tenge - if you can ignore the obvious fan service this short anime has some fairly good fight scenes and humor
Afro Samurai
Rurouni Kenshin - around 80-90 episodes with i think 3-5 OVAs
Blade of the Immortal - short anime that only covers roughly 1/7th of the manga
Yu Yu Hakusho - bit of an old and long anime at around 140-170 episodes but still a very good series
Cowboy Bebop
Ghost In the Shell - 2 seasons and 3 movies( a 3rd season is rumored to be in the works)
Black Lagoon - this is sort of like Cowboy Bebop but even crazier, some of the chicks in this series will freak you out
Code Geass - one crazy(but in a good way) series with more plot twists than 24, Lost, and every show ever made combined.

would list more but i gotta get some sleep.

I´ve seen alot of animes, but to suggest one it´ll have to be Gintama.

Sword Art Online is about a bunch of gamers stuck in a virtual world where they have to complete each stage/floor until the last stage/floor to get out alive. If you die in the game you die in rl. Its okay, not good not bad

I agree with Sathanis, Gintama is really good

one of the most unoriginal ideas ive heard since its been done before countless times.

some american films were the first to use that kind of plot device with the most notable being Tron

Ergo Proxy bored me although it was interesting it kind of dragged on forever.

Samurai 7 isn't as good as the original black and white move but it was a nice little reboot.

Dubs most of the time just suck because they choose some bad voice actors especially for series in the shounen genre.

as far as one peice I remember watching a few episodes of it years ago when it first aired in the US and didn't like the series and the annoying voice acting didn't help either .

Well the 3 you mentioned were more for kids while there is an enourmous amount of anime for adults full of the fun stuff like violence, horror, mature drama, and a little bit of teasing nudity here and there either for comedy or just plain fan service.

Here is my list with a brief summary, hope you check them out:

Code Geass: 2 seasons (there is a confirmation that a new season, but different will be out). This anime has some good fights, some fan service, one of the best mechas I have seen, a great and twisting plot which will surprise you how it ends. It revolves around an anti-hero trying to gain revenge on his father and his empire to avenge his mother, but it later turns into conquering the world to change it. Roughly 50 episodes both seasons together.

Eureka Seven: 4 seasons & 1 movie (a sequel is out called Eureka Seven AO). Has some really good fights, not much fan service, romance between a human and an extraterrestrial life form who are like humans, great humor and has many moving moments, has some cool mechas. A boy who finds life boring, changes his life after discovering a girl he fell in love with and is in a quest to discover the truth behind the death of his dad, the disappearance of his sister, and the many mysteries of life while fighting against the military with the help from some rebels. Has 50 episodes all the seasons together.

Fullmetal Alchemist & Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood: FMA has 4 seasons and a movie, FMA Brotherhood has 4 seasons. Both anime are the same except that Brotherhood focuses more on the manga. This anime has some hella bad ass fights, alchemy of course, many moving moments and they will leave you wanting more (which there is not because the conclusion was really good). Two brothers search for a magical stone called the Philosopher Stone to regain their original bodies back ( one of them has a metal arm and leg while the other has his soul in an armor). FMA has roughly 50 episodes while Brotherhood has around 60 episodes.

There are a lot more anime I have watched, just send me a mail if you wanna know more

There is no third season of Code Geauss, the series ended when [SPOILER]Lelouch was killed by his best friend(i forget his name) and by that world peace was acheived[END SPOILER] so the series you're referring to is in actuality a new Code Geass series altogether called Code Geass Boukoku no Akito(not sure what the name translates to) but it takes place in Europe right around the time when the Black Knights are just starting to gain momentum in Japan.

The main character for Boukoku no Akito is pretty badass and he pilots a Mech that is one of the weirdest ive ever seen especially with how it can switch between bipedal and quadriped modes for moving around and fighting.

i'm don't usually watch anime series however i occasionally try one to take a break from my regular viewing habits ... one of my pre-requisites is that it must only have 1 season (12 eps or so, and an OVA or 2)...

some of the ones i've watched in the last 6 months or so and enjoyed are :

Bibliotheca Mystica de Dantalian .. i liked the story/plot idea of books having "powers" because it felt kind'a "warehouse 13" (ish)
Highschool of the Dead ... zombies + big breasts = win!! ... the walking dead soapish drama bored me a lot faster than this
So, I Can't Play H! ... the role change for shinigami was good fun
Aria the Scarlet Ammo ... it made me laugh

the next one on my "to watch" list is Oda Nobuna's Ambition which someone recommend as something i might like ...

I also enjoyed watching Aria the Scarlet Ammo. You gotta love the introsong on this one, it´s performed by none other than May'n, a wellknown jpop artist.
