G'day, I'm a tad bored, pretty simple Whats you're favourite war film?

Wouldn't mind a few suggestions on some goodies either.

Anyway my favourite War flick would be the Coppola classic Apocalypse Now, pretty popular one but its a solid film and its one of my favourite films out of any genre.

Cheers.

here's a few that you may, or may not, have watched before

The dirty dozen
Kelly's Heroes
Where Eagles Dare
The great escape
The guns of Navarone
Force 10 from Navarone
Tora! Tora! Tora!
Full Metal Jacket
Patton
The eagle has landed
The Dam Busters
A bridge too far

Non-english speaking movies:

Pre 1900:
Red Cliff (look for the asian release instead of the shorter international release)
The Warlords
Hua Mulan
A battle of Wits
Ran

Post 1900:
Death and Glory in Changde
Cow (set in war time but not exactly about the war)
Assembly
Letters from Iwo Jima
City of life and death
Taegukgi (Brotherhood of war)
No man's land
Das Boot
Stalingrad

Not a film exactly, but Band of Brothers is a tv series about U.S. paratroopers being dropped in France during the Normandy invasion in World War II. It's about 12 episodes long, and is based on real events.
Like the OP, I'm familiar with the good old war film, but this blew any that I've seen out of the water.

After I watched them all, I sat there in disbelief at what I had seen - absolutely f**king incredible.

Here it is on IMDb: imdb.to/jyNt

Just recently I saw this great Japanese movie called 13 Assassins that is basically about a group of assassins out to kill an evil warlord. Technically I guess it is not really a war movie however one of the major themes of 13 Assassins is the samurai code. It quickly became one of my top favorite films.

original or remake?

they both rock .. each has their strong points and i have a hard time picking between the two

i'm assuming it's the takashi miike remake which is visually stunning with the tremendous fight scene at the end .. you should check out the original as well

edit: damn .. i left out a whole word

Made me want to gouge my eyes out.

Whoever mentioned A Bridge Too Far is a legend. Love that film.

Full Metal Jacket is a favorite of mine; which I suppose means that I also like Jarhead, as it basically used the same plot line, and even portions of the script, it seems. Just much more poorly acted.

How has no one mentioned The Thin Red Line? Released the same year as Saving Private Ryan(a very good movie in it's own right) but far superior.
