Merits get a lot of questions, so here's a complete guide to what they all are.

Once you use a merit, you cannot get it back or change it for another upgrade so choose wisely!

Using your merits is incremental. This is where you need an increasing amount of merits to get to the next stage of that certain merit type.

Stat Upgrades
Generic Info: Using merits to upgrade your stats do NOT show on your home page; these upgrades take effect when fighting. It is reported that the increase to your stats is approximately 5% per upgrade.
I.e., if your strength is 500,000 and you have upgraded your brawn once, this should have a passive effect of 1,000 on top of your strength.

Brawn - Strength
Sharpness - Speed
Evasion - Dexterity
Protection - Defence

Miscellaneous Upgrades

Nerve Bar - Increases nerve by 1 on top of your maximum nerve bar
Critical Hit Rate - Increases your critical hit rate by 1% (default critical hit rate is approximately 5% and critical hits deal 2-3 times more damage than usual.)
Life Points - This upgrade will modify your current life points by 5%
Crime Points - This will increase crime success rate by 3%
Education Length - Decreases your time in education by 2%
Awareness - This is useful if you are very active or use the dump a lot. This will increase your awareness which increases your chance of finding items in the city and increases your chance of finding better items in the dump.
Bank Interest - Will upgrade your bank interest on top of the fluctuating bank rates. (1 week: +0.1%, 2 weeks: +0.23%, 1 month: 0.5%, 2 months: 1.1%, 3 months: 1.6%)
Masterful Looting - This will increase the amount gained when mugging players by approximately 0.1%.
Stealth - Increases the chance of making a stealth attack. (stealth option should be turned on here: http://www.torn.com/preferences.php?action=settings)
Hospitalizing - Increases hospitalization time by 10 minutes when attacking people.
Casino Tokens - Increases your daily token gain by 10. (default is 75 tokens and this can be also increased with the casino job)

Weapon Mastery Upgrades
Generic Info: Upgrades in this category will increase the damage and accuracy of the weapons listed. This weapons list was correct on the 17th April 2011. Kicking and Fisting is NOT affected.
These items are not yet tested so we don't know if they are influenced by any of the masteries below: Book, Screwdriver, Slim Crowbar, Cut-Throat Razor, Fruitcake, Dual Uzis, Dual P90s, Dual Bushmasters, Dual TMPs.

Heavy Artillery Mastery - Increases damage and accuracy of heavy artillery weapons
Weapons Affected: Anti Tank, Egg Propelled Launcher, Fireworks, Flamethrower, Minigun, Neutrilux 2000, RPG Launcher, Snow Cannon

Machine Gun Mastery - Increases damage and accuracy of machine gun weapons
Weapons Affected: M249 Para LMG

Rifle Mastery - Increases damage and accuracy of rifle weapons
Weapons Affected: AK-47, Armalite M-15A4 Rifle, Enfield SA-80, Gold Plated AK-47, Heckler & Koch SL8, M16 A2 Rifle, M4A1 Colt Carbine, Sig 550, Sks Carbine, Steyr AUG, Swiss Army SG 550, Vektor cr 21, XM8 Rifle

SMG Mastery - Increases damage and accuracy of sub machine gun weapons
Weapons Affected: 9mm Uzi, AK74u, BT MP9, Bushmaster Carbon 15 Type 21s, Dual MP5s, MP 40, MP5k, MP5-Navy, P90, Pink Mac-10, Skorpian, Thompson

Shotgun Mastery - Increases damage and accuracy of shotguns weapons
Weapons Affected: Benelli M1 Tactical, Benelli M4 Super, Jackhammer, MAG 7, Sawed-Off Shotgun

Pistol Mastery - Increases damage and accuracy of pistol weapons

Slashing Mastery - Increases damage and accuracy of slashing weapons

Forum Signature sizes!

Everyone is always asking about their sig sizes, or what the rules are so heres a tutorial, so no-one can ever moan about it again. I created templates for people to use, just right click on the image and copy it to where you want to create your signature (Photoshop, Paint, Gimp etc...)

Rules

-Do not use any profanities as it will result in a forum ban and possibly a game sentence. eg. Swearing, racism, discrimination etc....

-Flash files are allowed, but they cant be big files or have music playing on them.

-No advertising other games in your forum sig.

Consequences

If you do not follow the rules above, these are the punishments:

First Offence: Warning issued
Second Offence: 3 - 7 day forum ban (depending on severity)
Third Offence: 8 - 14 day forum ban (depending on severity)
Fourth Offence: 15 - 30 day forum ban (depending on severity)
Further Offences: 30 - 365 day forum ban (depending on severity)

Note: If the forum sig is extreme, it may violate other decency policies and shall be punished accordingly.

Absolute maximum size for a forum signature is 500x200px, including images, text, spacing etc...
