If I buy say, 1000 shares of say, tcb, and then put it for sale at $900 each, and then the stock price goes down to $850, then how does the sale happen? Does my stock get sold for 900k or 850k?

It gets sold whatever the current price per share is at the time of sale. So if you put it up for sale when it's valued at 900 each share, then it drops to 850 per share and they sell it will be at 850k for 1k shares total. If the price goes up they will be sold for the higher price, it can take a while for your shares to sell also.
