This has to be the crappiest guide evar. You failed to look at the theories of clicking at XX:56 - XX:59 having a higher chance of findings, you failed to try test the theory yourself, you failed to look into details, like max amount of items able to be found per hour (2 I believe), and may other thing. R-.

Nah, I like to tear apart other peoples work. I did make some constructive criticism in my post beforehand though. OP should try making a chart of when he finds his items and see if the theory is conclusive.

Well, without input of other players I am not able to have a statistically firm theory. I collected ideas, proofs and admin comments over months to make that guide as complete as possible, but it is surely always upgradeable. I'll do my best to keep all your proven information here!
Chances between XX:56 - XX:59 (Spotty_Zebra)
But now on your theory on finding items between XX:56 - XX:59. I remember having heard of this before, but I never saw more than a vague theory behind it. So I took a look over my own events. And it made my jaw drop. Here is my complete list of all found items that are in my events list without any edited time and without any change except formatting, showing the first event at 01/03/11, 9:41:52 AM, and ending now:
10/03/11, 6:57:04 AM: You found the item Small explosive device while walking around the city!
20/03/11, 9:57:04 PM: You found the item Kitchen knife while walking around the city!
30/03/11, 2:57:04 AM: You found the item Hammer while walking around the city!
02/04/11, 7:57:04 AM: You found the item MP5k while walking around the city!
04/04/11, 9:57:07 PM: You found the item First aid kit while walking around the city!
04/04/11, 11:01:15 PM: You found the item Raven MP25 while walking around the city!
05/04/11, 5:57:07 AM: You found the item S&W Revolver while walking around the city!
08/04/11, 5:57:12 PM: You found the item Slingshot while walking around the city!
08/04/11, 10:57 PM: You found a wallet with $3,675 in it while walking around the city! |
Well, at first view it looks like: "HOLY (insert inappropriate insult here)! JUST CLICK AT XX:57 AND COLLECT $$$!"
But thinking about this leaves questions:
- Who says that there isn't a trigger which has to be 'pushed' at some time in the hour and once pushed the item is made for you but just given out at XX:57 because of crons?
- I can not say that I was not able to find items at other times, as I did not test to click not at XX:56 - XX:59 and monitored what would have happened.
- Looking only at the time could be a mistake. Otherwise I could say: Chances are better on even days
Chances with happiness (NoSurrender)
I also thought a bit about the happiness theory. This may be possible. This may be a reason why you find more with XTC, as it increases your happiness. But then you should also be able to see a significant difference in your finding rate when you change from a shack to a private island with full staff. I could not yet monitor such a symptom. Did anybody?
Number of clicks (bogie)
Hey bogie, don't leave us alone here! We are still waiting for you having proven facts about your theory of 'two clicks per hour are enough'.

yeah drug does increase the awareness. before, i dont take drug and wasnt find anything in a few year u could say that was my 1st time taking drug. i keep clicking city after tht as i know tcbasic mentioned it. oh yeah is there any item or something that can reset my merit back? coz i just want to spend it on awareness.

Regarding the happy. I had no difference moving to a PI from a mansion.
And maybe this is bullshit but I never have so much cash in "my wallet" and all the wallets I find have very few cash (like 1k or 3k). Once I found one when I had some millions in "my wallet" and I found like 200k.

when I was new to the game I had 100 happy and I found some stuff , and i didn't even have awareness + ( edu , merits )
it seems to be just luck ... I found lots of stuff lately

Maybe it will help to someone. I'm 10/10 awareness + 10% from edu. Lsd or extacy didn't help me much. Im not reloading city link or nothing. Most of find was when i was staying in city for some time and then go somewhere else. Those are my finds - April and May is when i was 10/10 awareness. March was 8/10 i think.
Im active for few hours daily.. sometimes more. Im almost all the time on xanax. Frequently rehab (2-3 times a week).

A Quick point, from that, Wallets and or Briefcases, are actually "Shit" finds, in my opinion.
Not only becuase the amount is usually a laugable joke, but also, that find, WILL NOT
count towards a "Countable" Find, ie, going towards Eagle eye merit, what have you, And
to my latest (unchecked) knowledge do not show as another added item found in stats.
Interesting that i find this post, as last night, was having a very long and friendly debate
about this same topic, In Sinfuls Room on Team speak, to the wee hours of the morning.
I am XXX days old, and in my early days of Torn, learned of the finding items possibilities,
and Dove head first, in to as much Proven/speculative/guessed theories i could find.
To my Advantage i must say..... As of today, I have found XXX items, and MANY of them
have be SE's..... Parachutes more than not, but a lot of items.
My first few (1-25) or so, were prior to using ecstasy to train, At around that same time, of
finding A. More items. and B. Higher Valued Items, I had recently started renting a palace,
and ...... started using Ecstasy to train. at that time, of the xtc use, i found ALL the stat
enhancers in my list of finds, at some level, i switched up to Xanax, for obvious reasons for
trains, and my city finds slightly diminished, not obsolete but less then before.
The idea of clicks/when/what/ times...... I have as well as a few friends who do find a LOT of items, a theory, (unproven) that clicking the city link, Before you check mail/use items/and on and on, (more is better on this kiddies) DOES work, and on an added Addendum to that.
Clicking city, then lets say, Home, pause....... 1-2 minutes, and back to City click. Seems from personal experience. done me very well, so far. i now dont have the time nor patience to do this as i used to, and frankly dont really care as much either, but this did seem to work, for more then just me.
Luck, yes, you Four Leaf Clover toting minions, may, or MAY NOT play a part in this, i have stated, in my, albeit short game, what ive done to accumulate the finds, and the rest is up to you and Very Informative threads such as this.

That's what I thought when I played Dablo 2: I had some chars that always found great items and with others I hardly found a set-item in the first 4 acts.
Well, this is kinda off-topic what I wanted to say is that it may be just luck. I don't think some players have less possibility to find stuff.
However--- maybe someone can investigate if there's a link to the ID or the order of letters in the Name. Maybe those who have a longer "name" are luckier
btw r+! tbh I didn't even know that you only find things if you press the "City" button. I thought it would be enough to click the "Items" or the "Education" button and thereby enter certain parts of the city directly.
