This thread is an FAQ for city findings. Bump and rate it  to keep it alive and help others.
The topic says it, I want to show you how to find (maybe rare) items while walking around the city. Everyone knows: You have to click into the city. But that seems not to be all. Some more detailed questions and answers about that:

1: Click rate
Q: Does clicking my forefinger into a muscle ache gain the chance of finding items?
Q: Does it make any difference if I click more often into the city?
A: Multiple clicking increases the chance of finding items. Some rumours have been around that there could have been a maximum limit, whereupon a federal jail warning follows. But this limit does no longer exist.
2: Chance indicator
Q: How often could I even get an item?
Q: Could I know at some point, that clicking for the next XXX times/minutes/hours does also not get me an item?
A: Torn avoids finding a new item after you already found one for a certain time. At the moment nobody knows how much time this is. Some players find one item exactly 1 hour after they found another item, but not within less time. So it may be an hour.
3: Reload
Q: Does it make any difference if I click on "reload" or if I hit "City"?
A: Clicking "City" and reloading the city page is exactly the same.
4: Click order
Q: After I clicked on "City", do I have to click on another link before it makes sense to click it again?
A: No. There is no force to click anywhere else.
5: Awareness
Q: Is there any other way to incease my chances of finding items in the city?
A: Yes. A higher "awareness" increases your chances of finding items.
You have multiple possibilities to rise your awareness. It is unknown how much effectiveness every single method really has. Trust your feelings. These are your options:
- Take drugs (Ecstasy or LSD).
- Use merits (spend them on "Awareness - Increases ability to find items").
- Work at a company that has awareness increasing job specials (Firework Stand or Candle Shop).
- Do the "Attention and Awareness" (PSY2680) education.
6: Happiness
Q: Does a higher happiness have a positive effect on my awareness?
A: Maybe. We are still trying to find proven facts.
7: Clock time
Q: Do I find items only when the minutes are at XX:57 to XX:00?
Q: Are my chances higher at XX:57 to XX:00?
A: No. Items are also found outside these times. We are still investigating if chances are higher at certain times or if it's cluster appearance is just based on crons.

You could mention which drugs do for certain increase awareness, which is LSD.

Where did you hear that? According to the item info only LSD and Ecstasy have an effect on awareness. Cannabis does not. Although I do not really know what they mean with "concentration" in the description of the Cannabis item.
To read the item info about XTC, LSD or Cannabis look at  ,  or

i had used my merits to darken my 8 stars in awarness and uses ecstasy mostly for training, and i am also 400+ days in torn as an active player, sad to say i never found any valuable item other than a small explosive divice..
i tink its all about luck...........

long ago i found lots of things. changes to the points system changed it for me because i was constantly buying and selling them. (in and out of the city all the time) also i worked in a fireworks company then. (candle shop also increases awareness) i'm rating it a big fat + nicely done!

This sounds pretty rumorous to me. Read the given item info to these drugs and you will see that there is no indication on other facts. Nevertheless I'd be very interested in other info, if some admin or some official source could prove it.

Yes, it is mostly luck, but you can advance your chances.
Look at your 'Items found' graph over a very long time segment - you can see a certain trend. In my graph some months ago I could see a clearly considerable rise after updating my awareness from 0 to 10 (yes, I saved my merits very long for this). I still find nothing for a week sometimes and then suddenly stumble over 3 items in a few hours (which very rarely happens). But it clearly helped to upgrade awareness.

Thanks. It's not only my work, I already opened this thread over a year ago but it somehow died so we unfortunately can't read what other players wrote in there. We also have to thank all the admins that proved certain facts in the thread and all the players that kept asking clever questions. I just had enough of all the rumors and tried to catch all together and made an easily readable FAQ.

Yes, definitely. This is very long ago. Maybe something around 2 years or more, I don't know the exact date as I did not test it often enough (well, it was forbidden, why should I have risked anything). Myself only saw that limit one single time in my first days of playing TC. Being afraid of Big Ched in these days I've been waiting for my next test some years. But today I can say: No limit at city clicking.
I remember a mod who asked an admin to get the clear answer: The limit does no longer exist. Any other info on this fact is obsolete.

Most of the items I have found in the city, are items I found immediately after taking ecstasy. I just assumed that ecstasy increased awareness, and now after reading a lot of posts about people debating about the truth to this, I have to say that I believe it myself.
Also, I heard that some drugs like xanax will decrease your awareness. Is this true? It might be worth mentioning this in the guide.
And while I'm posting this here, I would like to say thanks for writing this guide!

i think your second one wasn't within the hour you found the first one (it was within an hour's time but it was also a new hour),
e.g. if you found an egg at 2:59:59 AM then perhaps you could find another item at 3:01:00 AM beacuse the hour has ended and its a new hour.
i dunno just a theory

That's wrong
There IS a limit to the number of clicks, you don't go to fed, but after you've clicked the city TWICE in one hour you can no longer find anything for that hour. Max you can find in one hour is TWO items because of this.
For #2, if you're very lucky you can find 2 items simultaneously, I've found 2 items in the same hour within 10 minutes of each other.....the only limit is the 2 clicks to the city (which I did there) and I wouldn't be able to find anything more until the next hour.

We know its random,if you're lucky then you'll find something.....may be you(Bogie) got bad luck after the 2nd finding then didnt find anything.....just came to mind

Backing up ALF this time, cannabis doesn't increase awareness, the increase in concentration refers to an increase in crime success. Only Ecstasy and LSD improve awareness.

Finding items in the city, is like finding eggs in current comp. It's random"! You can find 2 in an hour and the it might take 1 week or 2 before the next one. And only Ecstasy and LSD improve awareness.

All given info has been stated by admins or mods who asked admins in the old FAQ. Unfortunately it got deleted due to inactivity and nobody wanting to make it sticky*, so we can not read these statements . Sorry for being so mistrustful about this, but this is really the first time I hear that and it stands against everything I've heard so far.
Also, some 'facts' can not be proven but retraced by constantly watching ones own item finding behavior.
So if there is any chance to make clear admin proven facts, there is no better time and place than here and now .
* - Maybe this could be a good point to ask for a sticky again. Torn wants new players and wants to motivate them. As a newbie I would love to read clear FAQs that can answer my questions and I remember that this topic interested me from my first days at Torn City. And I can not count how often I saw someone being unsure about this and writing a new thread into the Questions Forum (which I like to keep a look at, but answering always the same questions is retiring).

Been using LSD recently and ive only found one item while walking around out of me face on it ... if your accont is lucky(finding item's while your account is young)it will always be lucky(ull always find valuble items).
i know someone who found stat inhancer when he/she was low lvl and he/she has since found 15 of them and alot more valuble items and he/she is a billionaire just from finding these items.
LUCKY ACCOUNTS FTW IMO.

I think he's suggesting that younger players (in game time) generally luckier when finding items. There might be a reason behind this or not, I'm just speculating.

What i was wondering is if increasing your awareness also increases the average value of the items you'll find in the city. As a newb i hardly found anything, then i started raising my awareness and i found some crapy stuff (hamers, butterfly knives). Now my awareness is 5 out of 10 i think. And i'm starting to find the good stuff
