- Profile/Forum signature sizes do not have a strict size. Though Signatures are usually regarded as being anything up to 500 x 200, as this is the maximum forum signature size.

We're going from non-strict sizes to strict. Wonderful.

I didn't really understand the impact of this until recently. The new size is extremely hard to work with. Finding suitable renders will be extremely difficult. You basically need to either have a face or someone placed horizontally (lying down for example) for it to be visible enough. It doesn't just f**k things up for the people who make graphics, but also for people who buy them. Most of the players who use the forums regularly use graphics and this is just a huge pain in the ass for everyone involved. At the very least the maximum height should be increased to 150, and that would really be the minimum to making this change semi-acceptable I think...

I'm too new to really know if player opinions every actually make a difference in how this game is run, but figured I'd put it out there just in case.

Looks great! I really don't understand the philosophy of having a huge image under a post consisting of one line of text in most cases. Use profiles to 'express yourself'. On the forums, they are pretty much dividers.

I agree. Great tags can be made though it is 1000 times harder to make a decent sig with trying to place renders and stocks correctly and place your text also.

Some great images that one could normally use in a standard sig dimension are no longer able to be used as they will just look terrible in the tag.

Its just makes things harder for tag makers and means we cannot have the nicer larger tags we used to have.
Even if you compromised and increased it to 125px mas hight it would make a huge difference and wouldn't change the way you wanted the forums to look much at all.

Have a think about it at least bud.

Graphics forum is now getting a better lead with more joining this commmunity showing off their works.

New strict size, Im sure many will loose interest making the same size tag over and again. And whats woth a lot of wide banners in profile! We should be free to make at any size and expreess it.

Good luck Ched.

and one more note to all, make sure to save all your sigs, before it ***ked up.

If this were the case then why put graphics in a text-based game at all... Remove all the fancy stock images, item images, and anything that isn't typed... When you look at energy it should just say "x/100" and none of this green bar nonsense.

#chedlogic

Edit: after all people can express themselves in words... We will just have a poetry section for profiles and forum signatures...

All we need is that extra 50 in height. That is all any of us ask. If you can't take the support for that then you obviously are disregarding a major section of the community. Just look at how many of us have stuck around through the years and how many of us would be willing to help this game with graphics for free if you ever simply asked...

I would just put several large tags in the post then comment a lot in the more popular boards, get some attention going on. He'll change his mind in the end.

I mean at the very least if you make this go through then at least give us a proper resource thread or someone who is specifically a graphics admin that only does thing relatex to graphics.

After all those who have or have had control of the stickys either didn't make graphics at all or are long gone...

I for one am never going anywhere. Regardless...

Tbh the tutorial thread sucks.

I've learnt more from a few messages with Hades/Detox in a week then i did in the 15-20 days before that following the tutorials.
Half them don't work and the other half are either very basic or a bad 'old school'. I agree we need a staff member to help in GFX. I mean we are the third largest forum, coming only behind Trading and Questions.

There's obviously a split opinion on the matter of forum signature size, so why not let that opinion be, and allow each person to decide on their own?

26XCRnm.png

I'm just saying, that we get you don't care about signatures. But there's a hearty community in that forum alone and the resounding opinion coming from there is that the size is too constrained to truly bring out important details in a fair amount of images. Some images warrant bigger canvases, thus bringing "LA's" to show and sell.

My point is, why not compromise, and end the present and future discussion.

My original opinion on this matter was Ched makes a decision, best we just go with it and adapt. However, Ched, I am joining the group that urges you to add 50px in height. I have been making tags at the 600x100 size. For this type of medium, this size is very limiting. People in a text based game, quite often are gamers, and they like game related tags (Call of Duty, Gears of War, Crysis, LoL, WoW, etc). Others are sports fanatics or are keen to a particular celebrity and want a human subject tag. After having worked with this size now for a couple of weeks, I can tell you that I estimate 90% of images that would normally be used in tags can't be used in this size because the main focal of the image would be too small to be fully discernible. You can't just pop their head in. You need to have some space for a bit of their chest and arms in the least. The reason for this is each tag should demonstrate a flow and movement.

Is it possible to make tags in 600x100? Yes. The selection of subjects however becomes greatly limited. I am a graphic designer that comes from a great university, and I had to evaluate that if I was having issues finding suitable subjects for my pieces even as a professional, then the general citizens here in Torn are going to find it close to impossible. People are going to be making some pretty horrendous signatures at these new sizes. It will not improve the look of Torn but quite the opposite.

The easiest canvas to work with for signatures is a 2:1 ratio. If you add 50px, beginner and intermediate tag makers can still work in a 300x150px size and have an image big enough to be discernible. More advanced tag makers can work with wider ratios, even extending out to the 600x150px. In contrast, a 200x100px (the 2:1 ratio max size that would be possible in a 600x100 limit) is too small to look ok.
