It's actually pretty good for a first sig, but the red blobs of shit on the left don't look so good.

I suggest looking at tutorials of text, then looking at tutorials of effects on (ps or gimp), that way you can merge the ideas together when making sigs, it's what I did an it paid of pretty well, but sadly I stoped making graphics :/

Yeah, DaFont.com is a common one I used, it has good font's on there, or just search it up on Google if your not sure.
