i've just been chatting with the new global record holder for shearwater (Preach [1364273]), who runs exactly the same car setup as myself (honda nsx), and his best time is 1:05.73 set with a skill of 15.1 in a race where he finished 2nd, his car stats are Races won: 308 Races entered: 868, My skill at present is 23.7 and my best shearwater time is 01:08:38 and my honda nsx stats are Races won: 509
Races entered: 1526. So despite the skill difference of 8.6 he has managed a lap that is 2.65 seconds faster. I think this proves that luck is by far the biggest factor involved in racing, as the only other factor i can see that may play a part is the win/loss ratio, his being a little higher than mine, his being 35.48% and mine being 33.35%.

Any other thoughts? Anyone?

This isnt a complaint about racing skill or the luck factor, just my observations, hopefully it will encourage more peeps to race

Doesn't suprise me at all, I can put a load of upgrades on my car and get a slower time that before. I think luck should play a part but mabey not as big a part as someone having a higher skill getting a time that is 2.65 seconds slower.

It's pure luck, I probably have the highest driving skill in the game, and I don't have any global record
:)

Funny thing is, I had so many global records back when my driving skill was ~15

i find my times vary quite a bit, for instance i just race against 9 0thers at shearwater (some good drivers in there too, iworshipmywifey inc) and i finished first, howwever my best time in that race was pretty poor, 25/03/13 6:39:01 PM You came 1st in the Shearwater race and have won $500,000! Your best lap was 01:16:38. a long way off the records, looking at my recent shearwater best laps they vary between 1:14 and and 1:18, the faster times often being when i've finished 2nd rather than 1st.

I wonder if HitGirl and Preach both race the same lap races to compare results, or if one did short races while the other did long?

I also wonder if the caliber of racing competitors in a race will give a higher/lower race result dependent on the competitors DS/upgrades

I suspect though that drug use can influence racing times... maybe happy too (I can't prove either, but it would make sense)

Perhaps all of the lap records were created by 2nd/ 3rd place finishes. Where a couple of dull laps are averaged out by one super fast lap. My best time on Dartford is a (modest) 1.02.32 and I finished 3rd in that race. Be interesting to ask all of the record holders if they know where they finished in the race.
