I remember one time when my laptop had a lot of viruses on it, I had to use my old computer that used a dial up connection. It took 20 seconds to load a page, it was brutal.

We had dial-up when I first started playing Torn.

How times change.

edit: Getting nostalgic over the noise it made when connecting.

Torn wasn't around during the days of my 28.8 connection. 30 minutes+ for an MP3 to download, but hey, a new song to listen to walking to Uni

I'm surprised there are providers for 56kbps these days.

I believe it's no longer available in the UK anymore.

Although I am surprised it only got switched off in August last year

We had dial-up until late 2006, I remember not being able to watch youtube when all my friends could. Online flash games worked though. Started torn in sept 2006, so I think I played torn on dial-up at least for a while. Quit torn in 2007 and forgot my username/password when I came back in 2011. I still miss dogs and peaceful factions. Lots changed by the time I came back, and not for the better imo, never liked the game as much as I did in 2006-2007.

BEST SINGLE THING IS THIS GAME was when factions could actually be destroyed and wars wouldn't end, you'd fight til the death(or surrender). That was absolutely amazing and even though I didn't participate in the wars they were so fun to watch

Sorry for going off-topic. On topic: If anyone still has dial-up they're either retarded or have no other options in their area

what is dial up???

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dial-up_Internet_access

If you guys are nostalgic about the noise.. just use your phone to call a fax number

I also remember when I changed from dial-up to a neighborhood network which had a 124MBit/s shared among 20 PC's...Those were the days
30min for a song... 1 day+ for a movie (1CD)...
now.. ~10min for a BD 1020p)

I tried using dial up at a friends house in 1998. It took at least 10 minutes to connect to the internet. Then it took 5 minutes to try and get to a website that I never got to because the connection got disconnected.

That was my first and last experience with dial up. If dial up was the only way for me to get online, I would never go online.

I love the music that the two dial up modems make when they handshake.

It's kind of like fornicating.
