When I wasn't in a faction for awhile I got so many mails asking me to join that I just got sick of it and joined the next faction that asked. And my stats aren't even any good for my level.

Last Edited: Sat Aug 17, 2013 22:35:14
Since nobody can read my profile. No I do not want to join your faction nor do I plan to in the future. Your just wasting both of our time.

I'll have to start listing who claimed them!

Yeah, not the first to say, think too fast for my own good at times: I make one point and then counteract myself in the same thought, argument on my own in order to find balance.
Glad I know one person that was able to understand it all, haha.

P.S. for anyone wandering, I 'check' "Do not bump this thread", don't want to spam my own threads to the top!

Is Torn a reflection of modern society? Natural progression and game tactics evolution?

My thoughts one the matter.

I am probably one of the older (in real life terms) players of the game - lets just say well over retirement age!!!!!

I am under 1000 days old in the game but have seen changes slowly creeping in. It seems very much like "I want it all - I want it now"
Work for it and put the time in for goodness sake!!!

Agreed , this is a crime game - that being the case, what ever happened to the saying "honour amongst thieves"?

I personally think that etiquette and good manners can be observed without killing the essence of the game.

Just the thoughts of an old fellow.

Regards to all.

The consequences to poor actions that you mentioned in your opening post are virtually non existent here. What are the reprocusions? Bounties? Public shunning? Hitting the report button? Non of those are effective deterrents. Bounties are a joke, less than 20% use the forums or irc, and it has to be something bad for staff to step in. So it's more like a free for all, wild wild west, than a community. Most of us might say "yeah, that's bs", but what can really be done about it?

"Want to join a better faction?"............I mean wow, you really enticed with your opening statement there. -_-

The quick defense presented by DB_farid shows me that they believe that their tactics of war (in past) were low and cheap in their own head. That didn't even factor in my head when reading the 'invitation'.

Sorry but I think you have gone off track there. DB_farid has his own individual way of trying to recruit, and personally i agree where you are coming from. That was a bad way to attempt to recruit someone, especially when we are nearly at max members as well. I don't even know why he's trying to recruit.

There is no need to widen your rant to IBB as if its a faction problem, unless that is your intention to start another 'take a stab at ibb thread' otherwise we'd appreciate you not bring up irrelevant information. Not trying to start something here, just saying my part. I agree with the majority of your rather lengthy post.

I was only ever referring to him. When I say they and their, it is him. Not IBB, that's why I say in their head, no plural or several individuals or faction intended.
This is not a 'rant' either, discussion, I know how to keep my emotions to myself. Read the log, he brought up warring tactics on his accord, I've no interest in them. It's a dead horse now.

Happy you could see my other points though.

imo, the most sought after commodity in Torn is active players with stats that meet the requirements to satisfy critical needs for factions and companies. considering people will scam, cheat, lie etc to get TC money which is a vast abundance overall it isn't surprising to see 'shady' behavior to acquire the most valued commodity in Torn.

just my thoughts.

Ok my opener was really bad and I would like to apologize for that statement. A faction isn't good or bad because of the upgrades. But I didn't meant that. I wanted to say something and wrote something else. And just to add something about if someone can be recruited or not. If a faction isn't active at all, in warring, faction talk and also in faction forum the fun factor vanishes for which someone plays a game. Either that person goes inactive himself or joins other more active faction.

The way in which that should come accross is more playful and somewhat a truly natural reaction.
Not everyone but some may be able to relate to the simple scenario of you or your mates taking the piss.
You do something a bit silly/dopey/slight lapse in thinking and you or your friends pick up on it, they may laugh and call you a 'silly twat' or something or similar nature.

No harshness or absolute seriousness is intended.
You can get that tone from the fact I said silly, dopey would for the same effect.

It would be very much different if I were to say 'you stupid twat'', this would give a much bigger sense of harshness and spite.

Again though, this is perhaps a more colloquial bit of slang/banter.

I dont think he was stupid or an twat of a person.
Glad someone picked up on it, expected it sooner!
If he didn't see that way, I hope he does now.

Edit: On phone, sorry for little mistakes

Nothing at all about your English or where you're from. In all fairness its good enough to pass as your 1st language compared to some in the UK lol.
I'm still lost as to why you keep mentioning faction activity/non warring and stuff.
The faction i am in is active and wars.

Didn't even need to apologies but obviously accepted.
You merely sparked the thread creation, its not about you at all, our mails were an example of said poor etiquette that happens.

Torn Etiquette

There is no Torn etiquette anymore.

I used to write formal letters to factions declaring war and stating the reason for it. Wars actually meant something.

When I do a crime and get jailed...I would mail a ty for a bust and get a response. Not anymore. So I don't bother saying ty anymore.

Torn is just another facebook.

but you're right tho. morals and etiquette with factions, or between them have changed alot.

there are still some who hold true to the old faction ways, but mostly it's in the past. i still encourage good morals and respect with my faction tho. alot of people have come through Hell, and they all left leaders, not followers, and carry themselves well now..

even now i will still contact the leader of a faction that we have declared on, and let them know it's nothing personal. by speaking with leaders we have warred against, we develop a partnership 9/10 times.

i'm not down with trying to scalp members from other factions either, and think it's a low move. plus if my members ever wanted to go help another faction (which many have already) they still will always have a place in Hell.

but no, the respect has gone to shit..

Do we need morals/principles at all here?....It's a crime game!

Well i think that it is all relative. What is etiquette and moral to one, is not to another one. For instance, in my country, it is common and almost a rule that you may bath everyday, we have some ettiquete problens when dealing with foreigners that live in places where is common to bath once a week, the smell really stands out of these persons and creates a bad atmosphere to the others.

Like that , here in torn , it is not because you feel bad about an action, that the person will also feel like he did something bad or against some code or anything that could be considered a black tactic. In fact, he may see the shunning effect uppon him as a bit of an unfair attitude, like probably DB_farid felt as for him this was just a natural recruiting action.

While the torn community was once small, we had our own code of ethic as players and stuff that could be considered good ,if we compare to the "now " moment of torn, where the community is larger and morals are different. Usually society makes laws to punish what goes against a group of people morals. In torn we only have laws against physical attacks and attempts to gain advantage in the game DB or a multi creating. So when you are posted in a challeging environment where the rules are not like the ones that you use in your own life, the feeling of unfairness and injustice is common, and so the feel of lack of etiquette. It is in a way comparable to a trip to north korea, what you experience there will be against your daily life values and morals so you may feel dislocated and in a different atmosphere.

Now about life moral deterioration, i completely agree with that but the topic here is why game etiquette feels as lacking so i will not go filosophical about that.

I have to agree with the fact that general etiquette has declined a good deal over time. I think that the biggest reason for this, is that the community allows it. The community is able to enforce anything it chooses, if all scammers were kept hospitalized and their names displayed for all to see by a good portion of the community, it wouldn't occur so rampantly. The same goes for most other immoral activity.

I think that has more to do with volume than anything. I try to respond to as many thanks as possible when I'm busting, but when every one of them is just a simple, "thank you", I can't really be bothered to keep responding. If it's just one out of a bunch that does, or if it's actually something unique I will usually take the time to respond.

I think the same goes for being busted. Some folks are sick of receiving a thank you note every time they bust someone. Sure it's a nice gesture, but clearly some appreciate it more than others, and I'd rather just go on about my business instead of trying to figure out if the person who busted me wants a mail or not.

On top of all that it is a rather impersonal thing nowadays. It's not as if they're busting YOU, or me, for a specific reason. You were just a name on a list.

Morals are for the real world where unfortunately they are lacking. Hardly surprising when the institutions that are supposed to give us moral guidance (Government, church, schools, families etc) lie, torture, murder, steal, abuse and put profit before people.

This is a fantasy game that unfortunately people take far too seriously, if its not against the rules then you can take your morals and stick them where the NSA can`t find them.

When I first started playing this game I received a warning for using discriminatory language against another player from a minority group. The minority he belonged to? He was a self confessed neo-nazi, I nearly quit the game there and then.

Older players moralizing and preaching makes me puke. Its down to the individual to choose how to play the game within the rules.

Personally, I try to be nice....you never know, someone might return the favour, rare but nice when it happens

i am a noob regards torn , i have no place talking about old torn or old torn players as i have no idea as to what it was like or how people were as a general rule.

but i will say that people on here will be showing a reflection on how they are in life , if you are respectful , have manors an understand boundaries in life then chances are a lot higher that will be followed up on here.

i do know of a couple of players on here who are both old time players who have played for around 5 years who i work with , one has a negative forum count the other has a positive count . i will let you guess who is the mouthy one in real life an who isnt...
just saying in most cases i would expect a reflection a persons personality to shine through

personally from me you will always get a thank you from me for any help guidance bust or bail recieved regardless of it being for a merit or not , thats my choice an how i wish to conduct myself

Embarrassing a person specifically in public, calling him twat and making him feel he's a ethic less person, now that's etiquette...

Not using name could've been a positive thing on your part.
