ive seen people pay more than 100k for losing... search around. also take a vicodin before you do. the extra 2 or 3 attacks you get from it will pay for itself.. check out the drug addiction guide. you can take up to 37 ecstasy before getting an education kick. i honestly wouldnt join a faction until you can travel but its up to you. dont avoid xanax..,it can greatly boost you in this game. i highly recommend takingbit. 50 health isnt shit..not even noticeable. its more rare to od on xanax than lets say ecstasy also. the benefits of stocks are insanely expensive for a noob to even think about. i wouldnt use energy at the dump..500 gold isnt shit. you havent learned enough yet.. im sure i havent either as i am only twice ur age.

I have been playing this game for years.
Over the years i have given away well over 3 billion to date. This is mostly bad advice. How can you be in a position to advise people what to do at your age?

What has giving away cash got to do with this thread or your post?

Nice thread, I think you should change it to the advice people are giving you :-)

I kind of see the logic behind not using Xanax but if you can afford it then yes but you are kind of right using Xanax early will end up very costly in the long run!

As a new play you should be using xtc on any stat below 100 k (correct me if I am wrong) then move onto Xanax after this!

Never search the dump as its a big waste just wait it out one more tick!

Getting paid for sluts is easy get paid one by one! Build a relationship with a player then use them at a low risk!

Look to get a few cheap stocks will help you in the log run prn and tchs are very good! And will fund and xtc habit!

Training stats 1 train at a time will give the best results! Never use all your energy in one go.

Always use the trade feature to trade it's there to protect you.

Always remember if it's to good to be true it properly is!

One thing to consider is Bogie at least last states publicly he will honor losses in general. That itself was binding as Bogie was a former staff member; he would have faced severe punishment for scamming versus normal players have little deterrence and no remorse for such actions. While yes, it is half the going rate it is binding and you will not be scammed for 100k as to him his account would likely be worth more than a mere attack to him. I do not know if he has the intent of becoming staff again, if he does he may still have to play nice, but he does not have an obligation to.

That is the trick with staff players-- they can not scam you but they can offer you a bad deal (which I believe is a very important difference). It is best to decide what risks to take when doing trades or when you need to be paid to deal with a staff member as long as you ensure profit or whatever accomplished but as far as it goes I'd imagine they are mostly reasonable although I don't generally deal with staff members as I feel their time is generally better used elsewhere.

As to that I thought everything else wasn't too terrible other than in general avoid posting in the forums unless you absolutely have to for the whole people being jerks about stuff. I'd say for what staff put up with on a daily basis they are very friendly so sticking to staff to ask questions isn't all bad.

And if you'd like to check, Bogie is no longer Staff, so all of the above advice is irrelevant, he could choose not to pay like any normal player.

That's a pretty decent writeup for someone who is level 10.

As you start to climb the ranks, it's very important to understand basic economic concepts such as Return on Investment (ROI) and Opportunity Cost. Basically every decision you make in TC is going to be influenced by those two concepts.

Furthermore, having a firm understanding of those concepts will help you in your decision making in real life.

Oh wow I didn't notice that. I suppose that no longer holds true. BUT does hold true for any current staff members.

1) Spend merits wisely. You'll need them later, trust me.

This is true. Merits can be very useful and it's wise to use them correctly. However, you can always get more Merits with points. Surely it's a costly investment, but once you have your entire Merit page full, you'll need not worry.

2) DO NOT BEG for cash! I learned this the hard way. Some people will even attack you for begging. If you want to make money, attack bogie and lose. He will pay you 100k each time.

At this point in the games development, this should be a common sense factor.

5) Don't join a faction until level 10. Even if it is "peaceful", there are still bad factions that attack any other faction members.

I disagree. Joining a faction could suit a better player and prove to be very promising to their future in Torn. Joining the right faction, with the right people, could get you advice that you seek a lot faster, and more promising, than posts like these.

6) Do the easy crimes first, and bust people out of jail. Busting increases crime exp, and does not harm your crime exp if you lose.

When you start the game this is one of the first steps that "George" takes you through...

7) To level up fast, try to attack people near your level. Leave them on the ground for the most exp.

No. Just no. I'm sorry, but leveling fast and improperly is a bad idea. Wasting your energy at a younger level, before attracting the higher ups, you won't have the proper stats to make it. Conserve the thought of attacking others until the time is right.

9) The wiki is your friend. I use it all the time.

Refer back to this...

11) Have some spare energy? Go to the dump! You'll find a lot of boxes and bricks. Sell them on the item market for 500 dollars a piece. People will buy them.

It was at this point in your 15 step program, that I realized the amount of troll in this post.

[small]13) Don't get scammed! If you do revives, ask for some money up-front to be safe. Also, it seems obvious, but NEVER give out your password.
14) There are no real bots or cheats, all of them will steal your password.
15) If you have a question, ask a friend. If he doesn't know, go to city>Res. district>Ask a question. You can ask a question, but don't abuse it. If you want a fast reply, ask in the forums or chat. This may not be the most accurate method, but you should get a fast reply.[/small]

I'm not trying to rain on your parade here. But there's a lot about this "guide" that is just... Obscene. Granted I have taken a lot of time off from Torn itself, and haven't been able to experience every bit of its progress and development, this is all very basic information and should be treated as such. During my 8 years with Torn, I've created a whole website (in the past) of my own that had a ton of information. I still see, all over the forums, help guides on everything. But there's like 20 sites out there right now that provide more accurate, and more useful information.

One can appreciate your goal here and that you are willing and trying to help. However, you have to take a second thought, and a few closer looks at the Wiki. I haven't seen the Wiki to know what it suggests you do, but if this is the prime content that it offers, you should refer to a different site from now on.

A for effort.

This has been said multiple times. The bottom line; people keep playing. The more people continue to play, the longer the game will be active. Especially having their own facebook app now. You get a small portion of people on there and when they realize that they can get much more from the full game, they will migrate.

This newbie has learned today:

Read the help sections and forum ....
Don't start with robbing a bank. Start with little crimes.
If you want to use drugs. start with light drugs (gtc)
Train as much as possible.
be careful which gang to join.
don't use the dump.

Thanks.

I was lucky in that I was brought in by a friend that has been playing for a long time, so I was able to take his advice. I've also made sure to send a thank you to anyone that has busted/bought me out of jail, or attempted to do so and been caught. I did search the dump at the beginning and wound up with two cars, which I was able to sell for the money I needed to complete the initial training by George, so the dump isn't all bad, but it did take a little time to get those. But it was still faster than I was going to get the money needed doing small time crimes. Just a thought.

Uhuh... because obviously, a long-established player must proof he is trustworthy, whereas all the newbies are totally honest. With me, you'd never get a payment upfront.

7) No, try to attack people ABOVE your level e.g. locked is lvl 34 with terrible stats and rowdy is lvl 39 with worse...

11) No! Do NOT go to the dump- that's a complete waste of energy! And you can sell them for more than $500- but buying 100 items from Bits+Bobs is a better way!

One piece of advice I would give new players (that I wished I had followed) is to be VERY careful about using your merits. I ended up with a bunch of one-zies and two-zies that I wished I had used elsewhere.

EDIT: Sorry, I didnt realize someone said this already.
