So I would think cyber crimes are like most other crimes eventually leading to some sort of payday.

The top reasons I think crimes are committed.

get paid
Practice for another bigger crime
Personal vendettas

Now in a case like our most resent attacks on torn I can only think all this other stuff can only be a distraction for the real agenda.

Next would be this is all a practice run for another cite that uses similar coding.

Finally someone is pissed at chef. Lol now I know that list is long because we have players who wants every thing for nothing, (;personally I don't see why but that is another thread that has been done several times over and will continue to be done more.);

So where do you think these attacks fall under or can you think of some other reason to attack torn.

Yes another why thread. Let's face it just how you see this thread S a waste of time as much as I like torn in the grand scheme of life its pretty insignificant. And waste of to with out some sort of payoff. And its not just torn its any site like it. Honestly I've played other games that gets attacked way more than torn does.

That's an interesting theory, but I can't imagine torn.com would be a very prominent feather in your cap.

Unless there are NO attacks and these last events are just because Torn is updating, changing code, working on chat or whatever. We are told DDOS attacks cause these problems, but who knows :;); [/conspiracy]

Personally, I would have been much mre interested in having the skull of those troublemakers in Stockholm in my cupboard. Further, it must be noted that the attacks come out of Burma. A country appaerently undergoing some kind of disturbance.

To answer your much older question:; the scenario you painted vis a vis civil rights, were, of course, the outcome of insufficint zeal in punishing the secessionists some 80 years earlier.

This game became a target for "hackers," when Chedburn offered subscriptions to the game. In order to have recurring payments, Chedburn must keep customer account information on his servers. Before, he would just process transaction for donator packs. And transaction records often "X" out most of the account numbers leaving just the final 4. But for recurring payments, ChedBurn must keep full account numbers on file.

Now i'm not saying this is why Chedburn servers were attacked, it could be a whole host of reasons why. But keeping bank account records on file, makes a tempting target for thieves.

From what I have read about the attacks its not really the attackers that should be blamed. Cross site scripting(;XXS); and injection attacks are THE most basic form of online attack and the most common. I could teach anyone here how to conduct one in less than 30 seconds and could secure a website against either in a single line of code :;/

To a programmer of distributed systems, if you tell me your site was attacked by injection it sounds like someone complaining that they never got that 200%; return on an investment scam.

You must not understand how Paypal or Google Checkout work. Chedburn never gets any credit card information, that's all stored with the intermediaries.

cyber crimes?

an none of the above. it's was probably done to make a point that torn has vulnerability issues which compromises the account safety of it's customers.

i mean dam, how many warnings does this site need over the past 3 years to wake the hell up?

you see this as a crime, but i see this as global internet protesting. little sites like this try to act like big sharks in the cyber pond, when they are just tadpoles in the water themselves. these recent events have woken up the owner of this site. and if you haven't already noticed, he has become more public and caring to the people who play here.

if the attacker/attackers really want to shit on this site, the opportunity is highly possible considering the security here.
