I started this thread after having conversation with a mate on IRC, would just like a more general consensus from the Torn community.

I get the feeling that many players feel that Torn is 'drying up', so I ask you to please answer the poll above and;

'What would make Torn more interesting, 'spice' things up and really get you back into Torn?'4

but equally ask;

'What in Torn do you really enjoy and look forward to playing more/doing in the future?'

I'd be interested to hear opinions for all players, no matter their age, days played, donator/non-donator etc.. Also whatever you voted in the poll, I'd still like to hear your opinions.

Thanks for reading and I hope we can get some decent discussions within the thread.

PS: Please don't turn this into a bashing thread about the recent downtimes.

Torn is, has and always will be what you make of it...

Don't expect to be spoon fed and make your own fun...

It's what has kept me here for so long...

Think outside the box...

only started in january , but i am thoroughly enjoying myself , have hooked up with people outside of my real life friends on here and have a good crack with many.
so enjoy the friendship side of things but also the game side i have plenty left to achieve an can see it taking me plenty of time years in fact to complete. so unless the game for some unknown reason gets shut down then i will be here for the long term, just like life with the issues of late you have to take the rough with the smooth.
shit happens an then you get on with it

I've seen people say Torn is 'getting boring' for years. At the end of the day, it's a relatively simple game and the fact it's managed to hold people's attention for so long is pretty impressive.

To give me two cents on your other questions, I've really enjoyed warring since the recent ranking change. I think having ranks has really opened the game up to all people, regardless of how long they've been playing. Before warring was something really only to be enjoyed by those in the top 20 factions, whereas everyone else was just cannon fodder. The recent changes have made warring something you can enjoy whether you're at the top of the game or the bottom.

To improve the game further, I'd personally like to see a bit more strategy implemented into warring. Some may disagree, but I feel the warring system is more or less two sides lining up and bashing each other until one can't be bothered any more. A test of activity and stamina, rather than planning and wit.

I appreciate that this is a pretty vague statement and I'm not sure what exact changes would have to be made to achieve this. But I would certainly like to see some a bit more 'brains' and a bit less 'brawn' in our warring system. I think that'd make the game much more interesting.

I was around when the site crashed major bad and the first compensation was given

something like million per level or something stupid like that which was not fair at all as higher ranks gained more and lower got hardly anything

back then torn was running really really slow always going down for maintance at midnight etc

has got better but also worse at the same time

It was great for me around 2006, then this style of game waned on me around 2010/2011 which led to a break, followed by a nice return during last summer, which has got me into it fully again, and with new hopes, including re-achieving past glories

Good thread and poll. I went with enjoying it and have future targets. Sure, sometimes it get's a bit boring and there are loads of parts of it I don't use regularly - that's when I might just login to train and take my drugs that day. However it's still satisfying reaching new stat targets, cash build up and especially working towards awards. The numerous honour bars are a great feature to go for.
Power levelling to 71 recently was fun and the recent heavy wars were as good fun as any action shooter game on a console. Forums and IRC still keep me entertained at other times too.

I still enjoy playing, and like many others, have been here for years and years, so we know how far the game has come and what it has gained / lost. We remember the old torn, and the torn of today. I personally find it nice to get a break from the real world of slaving your arse off all day to earn a living, when you can go on this game and make so much, so quickly! s'fun.

Not to mention I have gained some friends and met some great people on here!

As Dunmugmeh said.

I can do very well without the distraction of casino's and such.
Been here since 2005 or so, and if the game will as it was in the beginning, today as in 2023, then that is highly dsirable.

TC needed a reset along time ago.
It has changed alot since its inception. For the good none the less. Love the cashiers checks. but need more. Bonuses on factions were also a very nice addition. That was a much better idea than just putting a cap on how many faction there could be, to prevent everyone from just making their own. Honors are also nice. Can never complain with the idea of more merits. And I especially like the The drug and med kit cools downs. To bad Ched didn't have them when he first introduced drugs into the system. Like the CIA selling crack to the inner city kids, it just got out of control. stats ballooned overnight. Now it's just a way of life. You take drugs to keep up with everyone else.

All in all, even with numerous resets. The great crash of 07'... the a-hole scammers that are no longer punished except for by other players. This has been a pretty great game. I'd recommend it to other people.

..... But i still think TC needs a reset.
I only say that because I think chedburn doesn't have the time nor the patience to run a second server. Just think, it would be double the work load

Nice thread, rated +...

Anyway, personally I really enjoy Torn. I am a restart, but I have never had what I have on this account on any previous accounts. I can tell you from personal exp that playing with a maxed out bank and even more spare cash on top of that, and a PI or 2 of your own, BEATS playing with a couple million or so. Honestly the money makes the game much more enjoyable, I know not everyone's goal is money...but money can honestly help you gain many other goals you may have, IE: Stats / awards.

I continue playing because I actually see hope with this account, a new beginning and a chance to actually become one of the wealthy Torn players and even a chance to finally build my stats up!

I picked "I'm enjoying it and I still have future targets".

I'm looking forward to Torn 2.0 and see what that gives.

I play out of habit & time put in. No other reason. I can't say i really "enjoy"it, But i obviously don't hate it. Torn for me is mostly something i do when im goofing around or trying to pass my work off on someone else , while im at work. & at home it's usually 1 of 3 tabs i have open on the laptop while channel surfing on the t.v.

Theres people i like here, but can't say im particularily close to anyone.(prolly cause i don't care for irc)
Theres staff i don't like & staff i do.

Chaining is mundane, training is mundane. So basically it's just there.

Not to say Torn doesn't deserve it's props. I've tried other games & all but 1 was pretty lame in comparison.

Playing out of habit.

My suggestion in the past and still hoping until now:

I hope TC improve their quests. Something include repeatable objectives. These additional quest are to be given special tier. The reward is not just limited to money. The higher they are, the more harder to finish the objectives, but they drop special and rarer items but also must be completed in group/faction.

Let's say the NPC is 'opposite party' member of next Torn Mayor. Hence one of the objective is the player must get a green result of 'kidnapping the Mayor' crime.

More example: Spread chaos in the Republic of China. Hence few of the objectives to be in a faction that have done 'Assassinate the President' OC, a group of members from the said faction visit China within 24 hours, and within the quest story line has to defeat certain NPC.

More more: Awakening of the Yasukuni Sword. The prerequisite is to have at least 1 Yasukuni Sword. It involves visiting Japan. The quest's cost is NERVE, with 1% chance of succession.

I think the game is ok. Things like this roll back and constant lag seem to spoil it. Also, having to delete cache and shit is annoying. For no other sites I go to am I expected to delete the memory of my browser. It's a pain in the neck.

Just when you think that the admins handle something really well, they go and forget to do what they say.

A big factor I'm waiting for is 2.0, but it's been built up so much and so much has been promised that it better be good or the game will die.

Nice poll definitely playing cause of habit now. There was a time when I really liked this game and use to play endless. Now I just log in cos I am used to it,I will also say for my friends also but rarely have time to chat nowadays and also used to be fairly active in forum... Kinda of at the cross roads with this game. I don't hate it but neither is there a burning desire like there used to be.

Having said that cant really see my self quitting for good I have invested way too much time on here and as I continue to play on phone makes life a lot easier at just quickly log in to train and log out.

Long may torn leave on though... As it was there for me to burn time for me before, but now I hardly have any free time anymore.
