You found a briefcase with $7,322 in it while walking around the city!

Before the reset I g0t the exact same event. lol

Is it really random after all?

If it was random I would not have got the same find or even a find. Also the amount of cash I found is the same.

Let the conspiracy begin. (But i'm being serious about the exact same event)

Really? That means Torn's random functions is user dependent. Makes some sense I guess, rather than wasting proc cycles on every user's action to generate a new rand() to search for items etc. It's statically implemented. Probably the reason why high awareness is thus so useless.

Thats what I am thinking.
What about all those merits people are wasting?

Btw. If you spend merits on something that is random does that make is less random?
ie.. its not random. there is a equation behind everyone's finds. Random is a load of bollox. Random is the item you find. (not really but in the finders eyes it is)

IDK, I've got full awareness upgrade, And i seem to find a bit more items. I'd like to think it helps. It's been so long since i've upgraded it, but I usually seem to find more than a few items a week. I found two lugers in the same day, then found two White senet pawn back to back, about a day or so apart. Plus i think i found a baseball bat. and that was all this week. To me, I suppose that's alot of items i've found, but then again, i'm not very active these day.

Finding more because you have splashed a few merits on it answers what I'm saying. ITS NOT RANDOM.
There is a algorithm to define who find what and what is found. When merits are spent is changes the variables.

Edited typos. I had a few drinks tonight.

I think you are absolutely right Hades. Merits, age, wealth, inventory etc etc, these things just changes the variables. I bet the casino works the same way...sort of. I know it´s rigged, but I wouldnt be surprised is there´s some sort of algorithm which regulate who wins and how big.

Yes, of course, a computer algorithm is not actually random. umm that's a dead given. It can only mimic the appearance of randomness, but it's not truly random. Even AI generated randomness isn't truly random at all.

If you're correct, and it will follow the same set path possibly, then my next find should be a luger and then two white sanet pawns. But I don't think that will happen.

As for merits on awareness. as far as I can recall. From the day merits were first instituted. It's always been about an increase in the likelihood you would find an item. Increasing the odds. Which mean, that there is a base rate at which any active player can find items. merits just increase that rate. like bank interest. It may not be much, or it maybe alot. Your level of awareness is not known, So if you increase your awareness with merits, and you see and increase in items found. One can only assume merits do in fact, increase your likeihood of finding items.
