Point is, people donate thousands every month, so regular updates should be made because if they aren't where the f**k is the cash going?

I've played chess on a lot of different sites, and absolutely no other chess site I have seen offers you the ability to gamble on your game, If there is let me know. Granted I don't gamble much, But I do like that feature.
And we had to wait for it. This game revolves around waiting, You wait for your Energy, Nerve and happy, You wait for your education, your banking, Auctions Etc... Everything in this game has some sort of waiting involved. After you buy your DP... you wait for it to run out. Slowly but surely this game is becoming more interesting. I would like to see certain upgrades too. But will complaining, whining or trolling on these threads get the updates done any quicker, I think there is still some bugs in chess they're working on. No doubt worth the wait if chess is something you feel is worth waiting for. I feel this game is worth waiting for. Thus..

Competitions are just another set of goals for us to achieve.
Im guessing most of us keep playing this game because of two core reasons. The social aspect of the game (friends, forums, etc...) and the game in itself.
Given the second reason, games, like so many things in real life, need a reward system to keep us engaged. These rewards come in various ways, they can be reaching a level, virtual money, a sense of acomplishment or a miriade of other things.
I believe competitions or challenges can acomplish this in a relatively easy way.

If I were developing the game, I guess my biggest headache would be in distributing my limited resources between the creating, improving and correcting aspects of the game. That, and realising its impossible to please everybody

Point taken.
*collects MORE virtual money*

Hmmm. Paying for bandwith and profit?

Where does the money that you pay per month to nPower go to? Upgrades?

The developers of the long-term projects are being paid. So your question doesn't make sense.

So they are being paid to sit on their arse even longer so we have to donate more for them to get the job done quicker, seems like they aren't very qualified developers to me.

I'm not trolling, I'm just wondering why it is taking Torn's group of developers to make such small "design" so long, I mean there's sites out there much smaller than Torn with fewer resources and developers that have larger outputs of effective updates.

Seems like the staff are really making things pan out longer than they should and making their devoted donators wait for a small change.

Note- I haven't slept so I apologise if some of this doesn't make sense.

The more complex a system becomes, the more complicated even the most minute change to it becomes.

Bear with me while I quote a few examples from my own field:

- A Royal Sovereign Class battleship ( ca 1915 )and a Leander Class frigate ( ca 1975 ) had the same price in GBP.
But one was a perfectly straighforward mass of steel, while the other was a highly complex contraption.
To change the design of a Royal Sovereigm from 13.5 to 15 inch guns was a snap, worked out in a few months. Despite the need to change ammochambers, shell-hoists, barbettes, and so on )
But change a Leander from a subchaser to anti-surface platform ( Rip out a Seaslug, bolt on a a few Exocet boxes which were supposedly a bolt-on item ) took 5 years.

- The software suite for an F15A consisted of 40.000 lines of code. It had to be designed from the ground up. 2 years development,as it happens.
- The software suite for a dedicated ground attack version ( F15E ) weighed in at 2.400.000 lines of code. Mind you, just a few ground-pounder add-ons!

How much longer it took, well, you can guess. There simply is a point of complexity where even the most minute change causes mayhem TROUGHOUT the system. Judging by the events around Newyear, I guess that the TC code has long since reached that point.

I shiver with proverbial fear anytime anyone insists on a minute change to a functionasl system.

Operational Readiness is incompatible with increasing complexity.

Torn 2.0 is a "small change"? They are *only* recoding almost everything.
FFS why would I respond to such an obvious troll.

Clearly an uneducated response. They work every day and are contracted to a certain amount of hours of work.

They are working on updates and they don't give a 'ETA' for reasons such as this very thread. ETA's that are not met for what ever reason bring out the moaners. But hey, not introducing shit updates weekly just so we can say we did something apparently does too.

I am not here to say our updates go smoothly and do not have glitches as I am a player as well so trust me I am aware of that. I am here to say we have no desire to pump out useless updates just to pat our selves on the back and say LOOK WHAT WE DID.

If some of the people on here was slightly more observant they would see where at least some of the money has been going i.e a HUGE thank you to Mrs Jane S, who's put in a staggering 1,520 hours to date and still going! and of course Chedburn and Co for all the money spent on updates

Very much looking forward too all the 2.0 updates to come, HoF 2.0 also seems very interesting with the top risers / fallers
