I do wonder to myself sometimes. There are so many coders and it takes so long to fix lag bugs and other bugs hanging around for nearly a year now.
Maybe when Torn 2.0 is released there will be a whole new code thus fixing most current bugs and hopefully will be looked over again and again and again and again before they release it.

The various coders have specific areas they are responsible for.

It's not like borrowing someone to have them carry something up the stairs. Diving into someone else's code... Well. It can be quite a task. It's good to have a dedicated coder for a task instead of sending various people to muddle about in the code at the same time.

No, I don't have the slightest idea how to run, update or manage a website. But I do know how to manage a small business, and know that customers come first and if they are not happy with the employees or product then the management should do things to increase revenue and keep customers.

Is this only a question to say, "then shut up if you don't know anything"?

Well if you don't know anything to base your argument on, then why would you be saying anything? Just seems a bit weird.

This is what I do know, updates are very slim, the hype for upcoming updates lasts for months, they are very glitchy, there are plenty of people that like them and dislike them, and people are over them with in a week or so tops. What am I missing here?

Seems like I have enough to base an argument on so please stay on topic and if you cant, find your way else where, thanks.

Fixed.

Edit: Your whine is pointless as I'm sure you're already fully aware that it's not going to get you / us / the game anywhere (after all when has a whine thread like this ever changed anything?), so you're just whining about stuff for the sake of it.

The only thing which should be better is communication between admins and users. Now some people thinks that Ched and rest are busy with playing minesweeper or watching lolcats, therefore no updates for us.
Probably, it'll be the biggest update made so far (city 2.0 and rest in set) so I see no surprise that it take a lot of time (not mentioning RL issues that they have for sure). I hope the final effect will stun us.

You have to be aware that they are working on 2.0?

And surely you've seen the blog where they posted updates on the progress?

Still false hopes... they been talking about it for months...where is it? Where is the new torn mobile? Where is attacking 2.0? where is company 2.0?

He was clear from the start it would take more than "months".

I feel you are being unreasonable.

They said attacking 2.0 was 80% done in a announcement thread... 6 months ago.

Either it's taken them 4 years to do the first 80%, or they are just bs'ing to keep us appeased.

It'll be still be months too, but I hope they'll prove me wrong.

This is the problem with updating a game. New updates can conflict with older parts of the game and cause problems. Thats just the way it is.

This will probably be the cause for any delays in new big updates they have to make sure the code doesnt conflict with the earlier code which was written 8 years ago or whatever.

Everytime they 'bolt on' a extra feature to all the old and ancient code problems can arise and some of the old code has to be re coded.

In a ideal world ALL the code should be re coded to take advantage of all the advances which have taken place in the past few years to make the site work better.

That would be the reason why torn 2.0 is taking 'too long' because i suspect that is what they are doing with that.

OP why don't you shut that pie hole under your nose before you make yourself look any more stupid.

Obviously you have no clue what you are talking about. If you think building or expanding a game is so

easy then give it a try or offer your help , but don't just complain about how long the updates are

taking ! Updates can take a long time to do , coding is the hardest part and it can be a royal pain in

the ass ! a lot of times it's trial and error. So get get with the program troop ! Don't just post how

dissatisfied you are with the time that updates are taking.

1. he has already stated he knows nothing about it, no need to keep beating the dead horse.
2. he has offered his help, in the form of money, so professionals can be paid to do their job.
3. he also said he made this thread from a customer's point of view in what a service he's been paying for should be doing.

all in all, he's right about it, most new things take forever to be implemented (not even talking about 2.0 here), and yet have far too many glitches when they see the light of day.

I understand that most people like this game because it doesn't change but with all these donations you would think they would be quicker with updates and fixes.

...

Do you think your donations are being well spent and are happy with the false hopes of updates, or do you think we should get quicker fixes and more( at least monthly) updates?

I dont pretend to know the amount that comes from donations. Im quite sure this is not a multi million business, so if you subtract all the running/daily/fixed costs, I expected the remaining doesnt quite cover the army of programmers you imagine living on Ched house.

That being said, not even the biggest games out there have "monthly" updates, at least not game changing updates. Some fixes or minor content updates are expected but "torn 2.0" is a major update of torn "engine" and I quite prefer not to beta test it.

On the other hand, I would like to see more of the challenges that periodically appear. Halloween town, world wars, and so on, creates more of a dynamic game, something that torn needs. I hope Ched have this in mind and is balancing the programming between torn 2.0 and new challenges.

@ GloriousBastard: You're right, more challenges would be nice. I agree, we don't need "changes" every month but at least something which could include those challenges and or fixes. I disagree with you on "even the biggest games out there don't have monthly updates". Lots of other games do, I wont name them in here but one rhymes with PoonScape, and even other texted based games.

And yes, the numbers I shot off in my opening post are completely off the top of my head, the best estimate I can tell by playing this game.

Thanks for the input.

I'm guessing whenever a new update is announced threads are made stating on "how it's bad" and "it's going to kill the game" when there are no threads complaining about the lack of updates?

If so then nothing has really changed and I shouldn't have come back. Because it seems alot of players still need to do some growing up.

Flight times is another update that did nothing to the game, so what they moved the cities location, what does that do for the game? Nothing. As for City watch, good on them, thats great. Im glad to see this. Maybe there needs to be a "Lack of Updates" thread every month to get the ball rolling.

That was quite uncalled for.

OT, it's a business that asks for donations so it doesn't get run into the ground, obviously you're another one of them people that orders at McD's drive through and when they mess up the order you don't go in to fix it, you just deal with the shit they give you.

Then report me, dick eater.

It's a pointless thread, and overused at this point to be honest. Don't take it upon yourself to speak for everyone that donates here, and I won't advise you to pile a huge bag of flaming dick down your throat.

And wanking to a post by Companyhiring is like wanting to give your grandmother a spongebath. I mean for real, the dude has played this game for like 3000 days. I'd hate to see how long he plays a game that he does like.

Competitions are just another set of goals for us to achieve.
Im guessing most of us keep playing this game because of two core reasons. The social aspect of the game (friends, forums, etc...) and the game in itself.
Given the second reason, games, like so many things in real life, need a reward system to keep us engaged. These rewards come in various ways, they can be reaching a level, virtual money, a sense of acomplishment or a miriade of other things.
I believe competitions or challenges can acomplish this in a relatively easy way.

If I were developing the game, I guess my biggest headache would be in distributing my limited resources between the creating, improving and correcting aspects of the game. That, and realising its impossible to please everybody
