just got this message in my account, am assuming it's a scam and have reported it since it comes from an account with a higher number than mine and I'd assume the user activation account, if there was such a thing, would be lower than mine. http://www.torn.com/profiles.php?XID=1732821 is the account it came from. i just assume anything asking for my e-mail, password and username is a scam.

You have received a warning! You have received a warning, Every 5 hours or so our system runs a scan on every Torn player and during the process of that scan your account seems to be un-activated. This means that we do not have any information on your account which we need to keep you going. This problem could occur due to you breaking any rules or may have come from out system failure we had about 13 hours from now. We need to now re-activate your account, to do so you must fill in the form below and send this message back to me. Username: Password: Email Address: Once the form has been handed back to me I will re-run the scan on your account, which will re-activate it, this could take up to 15 minutes. During the process if you encounter a problem with which log you out of torn, not to worry, what to do then is to close your current browser and wait at least 10 - 15 minutes. NOTE - During the process nothing will be removed from your account nor anything changed. Thank you. Torn Staff, failure to reply will result in your account getting banned.

it's not exactly a scam... more of a fraudulent way of attempting to obtain account details and emails... it's worth mentioning, that Torn staff would never ask you for any of your personal details ~ I say the idiots that attempt to trick players with these mails need stringing up so the crows can peck their eyes out... boy I miss capital punishment sometimes

Th Illegality consists of impersonating Staff, you daft twit.

It also consists of phishing, not scamming. Phishing is something that is illegal in the US at large. Mainly because of the bank account phishing that occurs widely. It is unlikely that all this person actually wants is your Torn account, but rather wants your password. Most people use the same password over many different websites, and they will try pretty much every single bank under the sun with the information you provide them. They also use the accounts as middle men on occasion, but it's unlikely that any accounts associated with such activities will last.
