Hello all, I recently had my scammed cherry burst. I am an older player and there is no excuse for getting caught with my pants down but I hope that by sharing my story it will: (A) encourage others to be more careful and (B) let others share similar stories they have. Yes I know I should have been more careful but if anything I hope this provides some of you with a good laugh.

I was on IRC yesterday when I received a message from my spouse's user name. My spouse has been inactive for quite a while. I had chated with my spouse a lot on IRC when he played. Anyways he was talking about wanting to restart (since its apparently legal now) and he wanted to marry me and blah blah blah. He also wanted some cash to get started. The fact he wanted 200 mil should have been a huge tip off. Well I am constantly and perpetually broke but I sold some stuff quick and put some stocks up on the market. He kept encouraging me to divorce his old account and whatnot, even after I sent him 60 mil (le sigh). I speak with my spouse over the net every now and again and made similar requests saying he was thinking of restarting and stuff. He signed up with my referral code and everything. He talked like my spouse used to although I did notice a few discrepancies. So me being the jackass I am, not only sent him the 60 mil but then called in a favor to get him a free castle rental. And now hes in fed.

So obviously I got played. Oh well lol right. Someone is obviously messing with me because now someone claiming to be the leader of my faction is messaging me. Wish I knew who it was lol. Won't get caught again.

Have any of you been the victim or attempted victim of a crazy scam like this? I mean I have never heard of this type of scam before. I am really interested to hear some of the other "outside the box scams". Thanks!

So who did you send the 60mil too? Surely that is a multi.

EDIT: Nvm read the fed part, justice served.
EDIT2: You should have checked out the #Scammers IRC channel, we have all the latest tricks of the trade so maybe you can prepare yourself by knowing them.

The player I sent it to I am sure was a multi and is in fed now.

That is exactly the type of user name I would expect from my spouse lol. Sadly I do not think I will ever find out who it was.

I am eager to read some stories from other players. This was not meant to be a thread of me whining about being dumb lol.

Some guy 'popped my scamming cherry' not too long ago, although it was only for 5m so I don't really care too much.
However they were asking for a DP and like 50m so I guess I got off lucky.

This is entirely my fault and it wasn't very thought out but I clearly wasn't thinking, someone opened a chat with me claiming to be a friend of my spouse, and she was offline so I just accepted it, they asked if I wanted a referral and said my spouse was going to sort the housing, the guy used my link and started an account. I gave him 5m then he messaged me calling me a dumb-ass or something, then I bountied his main account haha

Anyway that's my story, I'm glad it was only 5m though.

there a person trying to sell PIs for 830 million named sacred cow and other names and what she does is sets up a trade get the other person to send the money before the trade( they probably have other ways to set the trap) and never sets anything up at all and she/he is getting away with it, she/he almost caught me but she wanted me to send her or him money before the trade and i though uh oh anyways she/he is on regularly on chat but with different names but selling PI for 830 million and lately 750 million that's the tip-off so anybody beware

some one reminded me to get this person id and here it is 1538618 the names changes quite frequently

I had someone go round IRC with my old name, i never had it registered and still don't use IRC often maybe 3 times a year / when freebies do huge giveaways it's always nice to join in the fun.. anyway.. yeah i have very little knowledge of IRC and no even sure if i have Brad registered so it could happen again..

But i had some idiot go round trying to scam people on IRC under my name and i ended up getting bounties from it, several enemies which i don't care about since i get them from mugging but this was before i started mugging and several mails, thankfully the idiot tried scamming one of my friends who straight away was like wtf that isn't Overeem (my name at the time) and messaged me in game, i had no idea what was going on but yeah as far as i know IRC scams have been going on for quite some time various different ones but since you can take lots of peoples names on there and impersonate real players it's bound to happen to everyone one day.

ps if you read anything from "me" in the near future on IRC, no it is not me i don't use IRC

My scammed cherry was popped a few days ago!
Turns out that like half of those people in the trade forum looking for sluts do not actually pay up!

To resolve this issue, I had those wanting a slut come to me for my service.

I can almost agree. ^

Anyway, somebody in IRC attempted to scam me too, twice. The first one was pretending to be my Torn spouse, used Stealth (my torn spouse) as his IRC name, messaged me like "Hi", it so happened that I was asleep that time, wasn't able to reply then eventually he timed out, "kuldokk has quit (Ping timeout)", so go figure.

Second attempt, I have a clue who it is, couldn't post his name here as I don't have sufficient evidence. This one pretended to be a faction mate, he asked if I want to get referral merits, he claimed that he already has all of them so he wants me to have this referral providing I send the person 200m or was it 400m, then he'll pay me back when he's bank is out. I milked him for a few, making him feel that I'm falling for it but seeing that he's going nowhere and with the help of a faction mate, he took off.

Simple, if they pretend to be your spouse, talk to your spouse in game not in IRC, if they've been offline for a while then wait. Any reason they give why they can't go online is crap, how come they're on IRC and can't get to Torn?

Well i was "nearly" scammed once by someone named "ThaJoker" or something along those lines.

and yes it was one of those investment scams...

ANyways he offered 150mill and 200mill back after 2 weeks..

2weeks later he hadn't returned it (obviously)
so i devised a cunning plan. I Told him i would give him another 400m to invest after i got my money back..so he was foolish and greedy enough to send my money back and i just put him on ignore. problem solved.
