Oh i kno that now n im not saying everyone is like that i know some lovely people on this game that do help me an are friendly but theres plenty that are not tho n it just so happens today ive ran into plenty that are not |
Ask for money first, those nasty scammers will always try to get the revive first. |
I never pay up front - there are far too many little douche scammers out there who'd just take the money and use some bullshit line like "sorry I had lag".
Even if that wasn't the case there's no guarantee that the player you're paying up front will be the same one who revives you (if it's a personal revive) and in the case of bulk revives some players are so slow / inept that by the time they get them done you don't need them anymore.
Then there's the delightful sorts who claim to be able to do X number of revives quickly who then fumble around and eventually say they now need a xanax / cash for a refill / FHC because they are out of energy.
Trust me - it ain't exactly all roses from the service receiver side either when it comes to reviving, so imo the concept of "paying upfront" doesn't work because too many things can go "awry" with a reviver that you have already paid.
|
1) Ask them a couple of questions about the service you are going to have them do, and avoid anyone that doesn't sound like they know what they are doing.
2) Pay for a sample upfront. ETC if you are looking for a certain number of revives, pay for one and see what the person does. If they run with the money then find another reviver.
3) Pay half up front and half when the service is complete, this way you don't loose the whole amount if someone decides to scam you partway through.
It may be harder to find a trade this way but you get a lot less people trying to scam you.

Or just pay after the revive(s) is/are done. Problem(s) solved with a minimum of fuss at my end.
The caution needs to be exercised at the reviver's end and it's up to them to work out how to sort the wheat from the chaff if they want to use reviving as an income stream going forward.

maybe stop reviving then? or before you do revive, check their friend / enemy count.... thats always a good indication as to whether someone will pay or not. |

Ya sadly it is far better for everyone if the reviver is the one that gets scammed. It is not hard to see if a guy is going to rip you off if you look at key signs. If we went to a 50/50 system people will just take you for half the cost and you wont get the revive.
Key I look for is factions I have heard of or talked to. Most leaders don't put up with having scammers... it is more of a headache then it is worth. That is why scammers tend to lead their own faction with low member count or mostly alone. Those tend to be the ones that need revives fast to chain. For a well timed revive it will make any customer happy.
I once had a guy that joined Rawr and he was trying to use our name to scam people... he was kicked on his 7th day. So happy they removed the wait on that. So might see how long they have been there too.

Trade goods, not services. If you do not know the Drill, learn it now.
The reason why scamming is legal is that there is no practical way of dealing with it.
You yourself are your only protection.
So it is up to YOU to behave in such a way that scamming cannot happen to YOU.
I repeat: trade goods, not services!
By DHH [1538618] ( whatever he said )
Honestly, he is the EXPERT on scamming! No one, with the possible exception of the unlamented YoungBlaze has more experience in the field.
Finally, you should be aware that mugging is part of the game through DESIGN, and not through lak of mechanisms to deal with it.

-BC-XXKERRYXX,
I've been through a lot of the same that you have, scammers cheating me out of money or services.
Muggings I don't mind, because that's an integral part of the game.
Save your money, buy points on the points market, get a bazaar and sell flowers or some other imported item (But check the price in Torn before buying it overseas. I paid more for a Xanax in SA one time than it was selling for in Torn.).
It can be one of the safest and surest means of income. Just keep an eye on the price of goods in other bazaars. You won't get any, or not very many, sales if you don't have the lowest price.
Try to not stay in other countries very long, and don't bring more money than you have to, if you can help it. A number of high-levels apparently just sit overseas waiting for people so they can mug them. However, even after being mugged for nearly $1,000,000 over several trips, I still made a $10,000,000 profit within a week.
Try Mexico or Hawaii, as the ticket cost isn't a whole lot, and you're not spending forever on the flight.
And, it's usually worth investing in a Xanax and E-DVD now and then to boost your Gym gains a little bit.

Dunno about that. Observing his activities closely has definetely helped me to avoid having my hard-earned dollars go down the drain. If 1538618 does it and it involves money, it is a scam - period. The odd thing is that people just keep sending him their muniez!

|
A] Be aware that a Bazaar only pays off after some 500 MLN of turnover ( cost of points V 3% saved )
B] Remember the following 'order of merit' for the Flower Trade ( based on travel time V selling price )
Caymans ( best deal )
Hawaii
Canada
Argentina
China
Japan
England
UAE
Mexico
South Africa
Swiss ( worst, total waste of time unless you need Rehab )
C]
-always check Flower Thread before hopping on plane
-definetely get a Big Suitcase out of Hawaii ( +4 items per trip )
- consider a cruiseline job
- look into a PI with Airstrip ( free travel, faster travel, +10 Items ). It may be worth your while depending on your turn-over per day to rent one.

Given that you're in Vulpes and someone is chaining against you guys I'd say this thread has absolutely nothing to do with you getting hosped recently - that sort of thing kinda goes with the territory when you're in Vulpes from what I have gathered...
