Why is the question would you 'pay' for a Torn App? Most apps I download are free as they get you to use (and pay) for a product. Surely the question should be 'Would you use a Torn App?'
Anyone who would say no to the question would they use a Torn App is living in the 1990s.
When you're wounded and left on Afghanistan's plains, and the women come out to cut up what remains, Jest roll to your rifle and blow out your brains, an' go to your Gawd like a soldier. Soldier of the Queen!
A good app, yes I would, up to about $5. If there are not major usability upgrades above torn mobile then no. Torn mobile can still be upgraded and made more user friendly in the mobile medium as well and is probably more likely and more cost effective.

No, and ched has said so many times that an app will not be made, so not much point in this poll

He also has said things in the past, but later went against what he said..

No, if they do want to charge it should give a months worth of donatorship in my opinion along with it. Since it costs them nothing to give the donator status.
Only big plus of an app from Ched's point of view (and potentially for current players) is that it will allow the game to marketed to a much wider audience, being the mobile app market.

Ched is wrong, he just doesn't know it yet!
If he ever employs a business consultant who understands modern online business he will release an app.
45 billion Apps downloaded in 2012 and it is estimated this will rise to 300 billion annually by 2016. It doesn't take much thought to realise where the future lies.

Not in my world. 44.9 billion of them apps were deleted within 20 secs of first being launched from the device after being installed. Do you think Torn would be any different?
Didn't like the graphics, could not understand it, too complicated. I have done it with FREE apps, be honest, so have you. Now a paid one would be a disaster if you deleted it right away.
Maybe he has got the right business consultant.
And, as said above, my Iphone 5 plays it like a desktop with standard Safari. I think an app would just piss me off (telling me when E is full etc) I KNOW when my E is gonna be full.
Someone said about logging in taking time, after navigating to the site. No no, with mine i click safari and Torn login page is there, with the user/pass already filled in...Second click is login and voila - I am at my homepage. Simples yes
Voted Yes. I do think it would be nice to see this game on a proper mobile application. I've seen many other games like this one that have a time/turn based feature where you would have to wait to keep playing or buy credits or game money to keep advancing. Just to give a few names, Clash of Clans and Tiny Tower... and there are loads more. Most of these games are free. The problem I see is incorporating this game into a mobile app, and not create a whole new game. I've read a few posts this in this but actually mobiles can do a lot purely due to the fact that you carry them with you all the time.
Everything can be done using the mobile web browser? No.
If they implemented things properly, there could be things like custom notifications, so you get an alert on your phone when you get an event, or maybe when you hit max energy bar or various other things. So yes I would probably pay for it if that helps.

I hear what you are saying, it echoes the thoughts of most people back in 1806 when they said they were happy with horses pulling their carts and that those newfangled contraptions that worked without horses would never catch on.

I would buy it if they streamlined everything. No it's not needed but half the games I play on my phone are not needed. Would be nice to not have to zoom in for everything and have more functionality within the site.
Would be nice to still have the full site as well but the mobile site functionality be improved.
Plus I think a mobile app would be the biggest advancement of torn for new players since it started. You think this game has expended just wait till it catches on in the iPhone and android markets. And you are right, with a browser based game not everyone will stick but with the huge amount of base the iPhone and android markets have a HUGE number of people would stick around.
There are other similar browser based games I have played that are solely apps and the have huge markets.
Screw an app, especially a paid one. Concentrate on fine-tuning the mobile and browser versions of the site, then an app is really not needed. Solve chat and lag problems before making apps.
But Im pretty simple, I rarely use or purchase apps on my phone...
I can make a sig for you just like this one for $1000.

Seriously stop with the "living in the 1990's crap" - some players are obviously quite happy having full access to pretty much everything except the more resource intensive casino games on their phones already and don't need a cut down application to play torn, so who are you to judge then lacking because of it?
On the topic of Ched saying it would pretty much be impossible to go down the app route, given the relative complexity of torn (after all it is a rather multi-faceted game under it's relatively simplistic skin) it wouldn't be a trivial exercise to get one up and running (bug free and stable on all platforms - older versions of ios / android and less capable android phones would be an issue here).
Maintaining the apps for a game which is frequently changing would also be a bit of a pita, unless you took the route of having a radically cut down version of torn only in the app(s).

Butters - I wouldn't have though any Torn App would be designed for current users who may be happy with Torn in its current form. It would be to expand Torn to the billions of App users and thereby expand business.
As to whether it is a difficult job to do or not. I really do not care how difficult it is to design an App for Torn, it is not my place to worry about that. The game is a business, not a charity and sometimes in business things are hard but if you want to suceed you find a way of doing what is required.
And yes, I am sorry to say that thinking that a game App is not the way ahead is most definitely living in the 1990s.

Everything can already be done via my mobile phone's browser...
This.
Also we don't have an accurate measurement of the age range that play TORN.
So if we have alot of teens (Under 18's?) playing torn, how will they be able to pay for the app because if you want to purchase and app via Google Play Store/Android Market or something you normally need a credit card.
With my phone (and many others I know of), you can either pay by credit card or have the app(etc.) cost added to your phone bill.

Edit - I'm not sure why, but 90% of the community seem to think this is regarding a mobile application, I tried to make very clear that this won't be happening and "mobile apps are probably impossible". This poll is regarding a very mobile friendly website, nothing to do with applications. For single player 'client-only' games, apps are fine - but with Torn it requires security and authentication with every single action, so an application would a) Cost around $500,000 to make a full version of Torn. b) Be a logistical nightmare. c) Work just like a website anyway, requiring loading time in-between actions. A citywatch style application for android and Iphone which would automatically log you in to a very mobile friendly version of the website is being discussed, but this is far in to the future. Any app we do release in the future would most likely be free, Torn is supported via donations and is not 'Pay to play'.

This exactly. I play 90% of the time from my phone. It's possible, but not convenient. It sounds like we are moving in the right direction by making it more phone friendly...
edit : looks like ched says no. if he changes his mind, i'd gladly pay a few bucks to download it and help offset the development costs.

If you're thinking about those confounded horseless carriages, I fear you may be off by about 100 years.
Considering the limited resources that TC has for development, essentially doubling the workload necessary for content updates (while also doubling the potential for bugs and exploits) probably isn't possible.
Doubling would also be a best-case scenario, given the multiple platforms for mobile apps.
