Thought this was appropriate because of the new announcement Ched released.
If Torn developed a app for your smartphone (iPhone, Android) would you spend real life money to purchase this app?
This question and discussion has been thrown around a lot in suggestions, GD but this is the real first time Ched has made a public statement kind of relating to it. I also believe a while back he said they would not be releasing a Torn app for the mobile phone but I could be wrong.
Personally if Ched released a app that stayed logged in from your phone and you could do basic functions quickly from it such as train, fly, send/use items, do crimes then I would for sure spend anywhere from $1 - $5 to purchase this app.
Now the question will arise, why do you need a app? you can already do this stuff via mobile. Yes I can, but it is annoying to be honest. Have to open up mobile browser, navigate to Torn.com Have to login, then i have to zoom in to click certain buttons on every page that loads.

possibly, contingent on quality and usefulness. if it is just a remake of the current mobile version of torn, no.

Im thinking they are making the mobile website just like an app. They are aiming to make just as similar but without the costs of developing a standalone program.

This.
Also we don't have an accurate measurement of the age range that play TORN.
So if we have alot of teens (Under 18's?) playing torn, how will they be able to pay for the app because if you want to purchase and app via Google Play Store/Android Market or something you normally need a credit card.

We'd like to gather some basic information about mobile phone usage from our users. We look forward to announcing a complete full-site redesign with the view of providing a perfect experience on mobile phones and tablets as well as computers, in the coming months.
Currently we've failed to offer a properly mobile friendly version of Torn, and while mobile apps are probably impossible, we've proved a responsive website which provides an experience much like an application is certainly viable.
So, how often do you use your mobile phone for Torn? Also, feel free to post more detailed feedback in this thread.
Thanks. |
I've read the announcement, and it doesn't say anything about developing an app. So i don't really see the point of this poll.
What the announcement is asking IMO is if it would be worth investing time into redesigning the whole of torn so that it is more mobile friendly.

I would pay if it keeps me logged in and gives notifications of full energy, events etc.
Also depends on the price.

The whole point of introducing a mobile app is not to keep you and me happy, it is to expand the site to those who are actually living in the 21st Century. Without it, Torn will soon find it very hard to expand - people are very lazy nowadays and apps are designed for very lazy people. I know this as I have an app for everything.
Keep repeating, 'It will never happen', go on, I dare you. You will end up looking incredibly silly - well either that or Torn will die away which would be a shame.

I, personally, would not pay for an app due to the fact that I don't use my mobile for Torn at the moment and as such it would not be useful to me at all.

i agree with the reasoning behind this post, though perhaps it is too early yet still for one, it is one of those things that can be set about in such a way as to be convenient, which overall improves activity on this game. such would be the point in taking the extra effort to go the app route.
edit: granted an update to the mobile version could easily accomplish just as much too, especially if people learned how to better access websites from their phone, instead of the old hunt and peck for torn on google search, bookmarking torn and learning how to easily access your bookmarks via a cellphone, an app's only use then would be to simply streamline access my adding another route for people to come about such themselves in their own way, again focusing on the convenience to improve activity.
edit: most new cellphone software these days can make any bookmark itself into a click-able object that can be just as efficient as what people would use a torn app for on their cellphone.

Any phone which can run an app, can run torn on their browser with ease.
So no, it would be useless.

I wouldn't pay for it as I couldn't use it, being a Blackberry user. But if an App was made that I could use, weather or not I would pay for it would depend on the features.

Only if there was some sort of extra perk from doing so.
I wouldn't pay for this type of convenience personally (when I could just use the normal web app for free).
