Anyone else getting a bit fed up with seeing:
SAME IP FOUND!
We cannot complete this request because one of your IP's are too close to the person you are trying to interact with. This is a warning message to prevent you from being banned. Using more than one TC account to better yourself is against the rules. Doing this or committing acts which may look like you're doing this, may result in a federal jailing.
OK, I use my phone & my phone has the same internet IP as hundreds of other players.
Fed up with not being able to buy from, revive, trade with, attack, bust, etc.
I'm thinking the IP block is a bit crude & might need a little more thought....
Why are players being penalised for using the same mobile networks as others and given nasty messages?
One way it could be better is if the mobile IPs could be filtered out (TORN admins will know them, it ain't rocket science)
If a player uses completely different IPs most of the time, but occasionally uses the mobile IP it doesn't mean they're a multi of all the other players who also occasionally use the mobile IP. Again, it ain't rocket science
Sooooooo let me get this straight......
The OP is complaining that they can't interact with their other accounts......??
No seriously, at any point in time there are hundreds of people to bust and trade with, and thousands of people to attack and revive, and you're complaining about the occasional blocked IP?
Great idea!! It is genius. Why didn't anyone else think of that!
... Or maybe there just could be more negatives than positives for the game, not the individual. hmm.. nah, couldn't be that simple or you would of thought of it.
Its put in place for a reason, and it more than likely wont change. Im IP banned with people who live hours away. Just one if those things we have to deal with to prevent cheating. I think "nasty" is a tad overkill for your description for the message also. Its sturn and to the point, it lets you know its serious.
You haven't thought this through at all have you... Let's take a step back from rocket science as you're far from that level clearly...
Do I really need to explain why that is a terrible and infeasible idea in the grand scheme of things? Or shall I just leave it to the mercy of the public...
We're sorry that such things are restricting you, but there won't be changes to this system to benefit you. It's worked with us fine for 8 years. Attempting to bypass this block will result in punishment for you and anyone else doing the same.
Meh, you're clearly so amazingly clever let's keep it the same coz it's always been that way.
I've heard that before.
Well I've put my idea forward & it would be nice to hear if anyone has an opinion other than 'ooh I've been IP banned too & you should just suck it up'
Ok, I will restate what I was alluding to without the sarcasm because you haven't thought it through from the other perspective.
You cannot simply allow a mobile IP for many reasons the basic one being that allowing a particular IP to bypass the blocks, in effect then allows people to create multiple accounts and interact with them on the same IP. This will never be allowed.
I've recruited a few people to the game as friends/family, and my first experience was incredibly frustrating. The other family member's house was about 10 hours' drive away, but I couldn't help him in any way directly. Same IP??? It was his computer and his wifi the whole time. Almost impossible we were the same IP. There's something else at work. Most likely just that he was a recruit of mine. My father-in-law is (slowly) recuperating from a surgery in my house and he's definitely on my IP... so I'm not even trying to help. I can hang over his shoulder and tell him what to do, anyway. That's enough. It's the "long distance" stuff that angers me. He'd be a lot more active if there was a way to directly help him.
ALL THAT SAID: there's enough multis. Keep the rule. Oh, and flush most of South Africa. Wayyyyyy too many players all around the same age/level/rank. :-)
I feel you man i play at school with 4 other friends.. Actual players.. Not multis lol i can prove that to staff many ways BUT i cant send them anything, cant revive them.. bust them nothing.. Sometimes i just wanna send my friend come cannabis and be silly and funny.. BUT nope cant.. I understand there is no other way to regulate and control and IP so nothing can be done, just ranting lol
Just suck thumb and play it. I do refer friends and we do have the IP AND I LOVE THAT BLOCK. They should earn things the way I used to earn myself and not begging or drooling all day as if money will dropped from the sky. Face in reality, where would you get free meal in this world ? -.-

I'm simply saying it should be more sophisticated than 'same IP'
There is no way it can be more sophisticated.
The only way your annoyance can be solved is by unblocking phone IPs, which opens the doors to abuse.
Either that or join some ones WIFI.
It seems to me that the game has an automatic way of checking IPs (maybe just checking the the first part of the numbers).
For two people with the same internet provider, even though they live miles away from each other (but still in the same country) it gives the well know message (it has been happening for me and a friend in another city). So maybe... the mods could put the system to manual and check more carefully.... it is really annoying introducing the game to friends and then not being able to play with them. Or should we always ask with provider they use.... it is not making any sense...
I have a had a history with this system. I live in New England, I went to visit my brother in California. I played the game while I visited him(my brother was the one who got me to play Torn in the first place), and we got an IP ban for several months because of my visit.
If the evidence of our possible multi-use was an issue how are other multi's not detected earlier and eliminated. It seems like many obvious multis's survive and others who are coincidence seem to get a lot of attention.
I am all for people who are scamming the system to get banned or punished but it clearly casts a very wide net. If the net that it casts is that wide then why are so many people complaining about people being multi's? If the system works as well against an obviously not multi situation like I had then why doesn't it work against the one's who are abusing the system like I read about in the forums(WW2012)?

he's right tho. if torn's IP system is setup to help in the prevention of multis, than the system is crap, buggy, an out of date.
torn has failed in this area for years, an it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that.
and yes, locking phone to account can be done like i've said many times before, but that poses to be to sophisticated for torn right now.
This sums it up perfectly....
Actually it sums it up terribly.
This ip system is not set up to help in the prevention of multis, its set up to prevent the trasfer of cash/items/services from one account to another.
I dont see what the big deal is, you just cant send money, items or interact with a banned ip. Ive been ip blocked with the leader of my faction for a long time, yet we chain together, send mails, irc, etc. We just know we cant send each other stuff...
yep, my torn spouse and I lived together for a few months (old school friends) recently, both torning it daily, we got IP blocked.
It does suck, but we were on the same network, so we expected it to come, it is a pain in the ass, if i want to revive him or send him the odd gift, but at the end of the day it is a useful system.
Acording to staff after a few months of us not being on the same IP it should get unblocked, but there's no real problem with game play, we play our own seperate games.
bottom line is, if he was expecting gifts and or cash constantly then he would have been the wrong choice to refer to torn. So no big deal

How do you propose on locking a phone to an account?
It is a terrible system--easily circumvented by the player who really wants multiple accounts, yet restricts gameplay for players with real-life friends who also play.
I have a few local friends who play. All it takes is one absent-minded login on their network, or a network you both use (university, mutual friends), and you're banned from interacting for an unknown period of time. Being forced to limit the networks you log onto to deal with this is quite annoying, and can make it difficult to play the game.
I don't know what the best alternative would be, but I admit the current system is crap enough to start thinking about one.

I agree with you, the IP block really sucks, but as Bogie said, it's been fine for 8 years so why change it. I've been on torn on all sorts of networks, Virgin, T-mobile, O2, Orange and 3. I still get along fine though. I get a few message here and there but not that often.
