I prefer not to weaken my own character by not levelling up.

You can't weaken your character by not leveling up because whats going to happen if you reach lvl 100? Besides I've been holding since I started playing torn, I made it to level 25 in 40 days and been holding ever since. I suspect im around level 70-80 since I've beaten a lvl 70 something before.

I doubt you could even make it to level 40 to be honest.

I beg to differ

I bet 1bil you can't level to 70.
I attacked and leave level 90 for 50 times, just to level up from 65 to 66.
You just have 700times attack won, that's not enough to level up from 60 to 70.

been holding for 2 years...its a ton of fun to watch people bounce off you..
some people say that im hindering my self by not having the hp that comes with a higher level.

in my opinion the 100k life i could have by upgrading is irrelevant because players nowadays hit for millions of damage. a mere 100k hp is not going to matter..

That makes sense. Good point.

I do find it to be a gigantic pain in the ass when I go to smash some level 25 player and get my ass handed to me rather quickly. F**k level holding.

How long have you been holding your level? How long do you plan to keep it that way?

I've been holding mine for what I believe to be over 4 months now, but I've lost track over time. I don't plan on upgrading for at least another month, probably more considering my stats. I'm sure there's other players now that have been holding for MUCH longer than I have however.

I've been holding for a bit...Once my stats get better I may go up to 47. Right now stats very bad/

Basically went with the philosophy of if I can beat the NPC for the mission for that level on my own than I'll upgrade.
No more mission NPC to beat, so I'll just stay at 40 for a while. When I reach my stat goals I'll upgrade.

Held at level 39 for about 4 months. Clicked upgrade - still have the upgrade button...

I been lvl holding for quite some time. Found out it was usefull in war and such ppl tend to attack withouth checking stats. OFC HP doesnt play that much role if someone got higher stats anyway.

It started with me wanting better stats for my lvl...

If you train Defence then level holding is purely idiotic as it makes your life far more useful than no defence. Common sense would dictate that.

But, level holding will get you the odd defend/runaway, will reduce the amount of respect you loose when attacked and will let you increase your stat/level ratio to what you think is appropriate for that level.

S'pose it all depends on what you're TC character is currently working towards as to whether you level or choose to abstain from it.

How'd you get a fat chick into bed? piece of cake!

This is the reason i am level holding

you can get extra life with merits every time you level up, so i am holding my level until i fully completed my extra life merits, so because HP is worth it that's why i am holding my level

please correct me if my way of thinking is wrong.

^ You can reset your merits if you want to gain the extra life. Also, Xanax OD costs you 50 life per OD, so you'd have to reset your merits anyway if you wanted to get that life back too.

IMHO, not a really good reason to hold.

i'm just saying the merits will add some % of life every time you level up right? and in torn you can only level up 99 times, so i think resetting your merit will not help if you are already at level 100, or this is not how the merit works?

each life upgrade gives you 5% passive modifier on your base life. So if you reset your merits, it removes all passive upgrades on it and resets your life to the 'base default' for your level (ie. for level 1, base life is 500/500).

So if you were level 1 & had 10/10 on life merits, you would get an extra 50% - giving you 750/750 life. Resetting would give the merits back to you and set your life back to 500/500. Furthermore, if you were level 1 & had 10/10, you could overdose on Xanax 5 times (losing 250 life), then reset your merits (back to 500/500) and put the merits back, thereby 'negating' the lost life of the Xanax.

Of course the higher your level, the more you could overdose, because 5% of much higher base life could absorb much more Xanax OD's.

TLDR: No you have a base life (0/10 merits) for each level. You would be reset back to that.

^ yes you do lose 50 life for each Xanax OD.

I was referring to the fact that if you have a much higher base life (ie. default life for your level) a 5% passive upgrade on life points gives you much more extra life than it would if you were a much lower level (ie. a level 1 like my example).

So you could overdose on Xanax a lot more without it affecting your base HP (for example, check someone - the level 1 holder. Her OD's have cut into her base HP already. Last I checked she had 50/50 HP whereas base for a level 1 is 500/500).

Then later on if you reset your merits you would drop back to the base life points and not have 'lost' any from overdosing on those Xanaxes.

Know what I mean?

Was just wondering what the benefits of level holding for chaining are. Does attacking a person much higher level than you(lets say a lvl 20 beating a lvl 40) in a chain give more respect than if you were the same level?

I level holded once i got to 15 for around 1 and a half years before leveling to 30 around half a year ago and im not sure if i want to level up again once im finished with my stat training.

I really dont see a benefit for me right now since I hardly ever get attacked.

Level holders get free defends during war, therefore they will cause the enemy faction to lose 25 energy.
