How long have you been holding your level? How long do you plan to keep it that way?
I've been holding mine for what I believe to be over 4 months now, but I've lost track over time. I don't plan on upgrading for at least another month, probably more considering my stats. I'm sure there's other players now that have been holding for MUCH longer than I have however.

People have been level holding for years and years......there are some level 20s with tons of stats.
I never saw much point in level holding past lets say level 30, sure you can get some defends but you are losing out on a ton of extra life (esp if you used merits to max it out) this extra life alone makes your fights last longer and for me at least has allowed me to beat people with much higher stats than me..
Level holding is so 2008

This. Level holding has little benefit but hinders you significantly. But by all means! Please keep level holding.

I held my level at 15 for quite some time, until one day i just decided to level... got just to level 33 but i didn't expect many levels as i never attacked for exp just warred and mugged, so i gained another 2 levels to 35 and this is where i plan to stay for a very long time, only reason i would want to level from here is to jump to level 50 for the trigger, until then i plan to level hold.
Was also thinking about my nerve as i want to help out with PA's one day and a lot of people were saying how level holding affect your crime experience which all i can say is a load of bollox.. in fact is did quite considerably worse while i didn't have an upgrade button that i do now... i fell from 97% sucsess rate down to 92/94% on and off and since hitting upgrade AGAIN on level 35 i'v had 99% success rate.
I plan to happily hold at 35 for a good year or 2 minimum

If you dont attack much level holding is fine but if you like to chain level holding is not worth it, I use HP as my 4th stat (just over dex) so if I hit a strong opponent and do not do a 1 hit KO I still have life left if I would level hold I would have alot more losses.

spot on! the extra life is like having another stat to help you win a fight!

Double negative. You have been holding since you started torn, which would make you level 1. Then you say you made it to 25 in 40 days, which you didn't do anyway, then say you held from there. So which one is it? Also, level 70/80? lolololol I just do not understand trolls, why does acting like a dick make you feel so much better? Do you feel good when you lay your head at night....

He means you get stronger as you level up... Your life increases which is invaluable.

He means you get stronger as you level up... Your life increases which is invaluable. |
No he didn't he meant that if he level holds and still gets experience from defends, etc.. then he will be a higher level with less stats then he could've had if he had leveled up naturally

Only benefits for me to level now are:
1) Extra Life
2) Another merit at level 100.
Considering I have VERY weak stats, and I barely take any drugs...
Increasing my health is worthless. People still 1-hit me as if I was a 0 days old.
So level holding is what I shall do.
No requirement to upgrade.
Yet.

I've been holding for about 6 weeks but its not really to get defends or anything. My spouse is my friend in real life and I am his referral. I am a flower runner and he has been living in my rented PI and bumming points off me for months without contributing so I told him to start getting flowers from the far countries a few times a week and I'd give him refill points and buy dps for him but he won't. It's been a standoff now for over a month and I don't plan on levelling til he starts contributing lol. Not gona divorce either cuz its been so long for merit and its easy to contact him cuz were friends in RL.

I was mostly inactive for my first two years in the game so I have always been very weak compared to my age and level. I decided to take a little break from levelling for a few years to let my stats get in line with my age and level. This leads to the next question, what is normal decent stats for a level 30 or 40? I still get beaten on a regular basis so I know I have a lot of training ahead of me.

I agree, and most people know the personal stats page in not 100% accurate, when the personal stats were first introduced it showed I had beaten a level 65 when that wasn't even close

I made it to level 16 in about 30-40 days and been holding since. Until my stats can justify my a higher level i will probably stay here.

But if your going to do it, you may as well do it right, do it at at a low level and do it for years before even considering leveling up...

For some level holding is a way of gaining the "defend" and "runaway" merits without paying other players for them...
Once you have them - level holding is pretty worthless.
Torn is full of strong low and weak high players, drug use is also a consideration and stat balance, suppose it depends upon your chosen path.
There is no right and wrong - just choice - and you make it.

Only good thing from level holding is a lot of defends from people who dont look at statistics. but if you want defend merits and have money to pay then pointless holding imo.
more hp can only make you stronger.. grow level and stats together
