If your worried about investing in torn then as things go it is pretty safe. When you see stuff like adverts appearing to make money then you know the game is on shakey ground.

Make sure to check out my bazaar for tons of great deals.

that was '09... do you think more people donate now than then? are the costs of running the site the same? there are a lot of factors that make that figure irrelevant. the real figure could be a lot different now, more likely to be higher as the game is still around and has had big changes to gameplay and server base

Login a few times a day to do some updates?

Are you serious, or do you seriously not understand that development takes time.

Yes, staff could make a new "feature" every day. A small update here, a small update there...
But nothing substantial.. and VERY buggy.

Or, staff can spend a few months working on one, big project that adds a lot more than "a few smaller updates".

Chedburn doesn't *need* to login during the initial development stages. Testing, yes. But coding.. nope.

Ched, Hire me as a developer. Peek my profile!

Even if he made a quarter of that and to top it off, he doesn't pay staff, then he would still be crazy to get rid of it.

I have to LOL @ this statement. I'm sorry, have YOU ever coded? Nope? Sometimes it can takes months to get something perfected. The hours, days, weeks, and months is takes can be a huge toll on someone. If you want to factor in the hours it takes to do something it can bring down your income. I once determined my actual pay per hour was around 13.75$ (Photographer) after paying taxes, and other expenses. I've also worked as a coder for a LONG time. The hours, and the pay aren't easy or great.

I think the game might be coming to an end soon..

Why would ched put a level 100 cap on.

In another 2 years fking loads of people will be level 100 and the game will get boring and people will start to quit slowly.

Suppose as Tech' advances - so must games(and gamers).

This incarnation of Torn will therefore evolve into something new as the game has evolved over the past 7 years.

As more gamers move to consoles and tablets/phones the demand for games similar to Torn will decrease.

Business is business and demand is key to survival, hence Torn (or its new incarnation) must be favourable to the devices in use by the masses.

I personally hope that there will be a way of existing players to transfer to the new technology and not lose all the time and effort invested.

Cheers...Sub

Torn app's have been covered and dismissed in previous threads as I recall.

I think the main appeal of Torn is the user base and community - correct me if I am wrong - but who in their "right" mind would wish to lose 10's of thousands of users and a active community?

A app on its own would not satisfy - the 7 years of growth prove that - also the fact that we have the Tech' but still reply to the forums.

The answer may lie in the "human" element to the game - Honour, Respect and Courage for those that we may never meet face to face nor even know their "real" name.

Can a app provide this with such efficiency atm?

Cheers...Sub

I think a number of current users would benefit from a Train/Travel/Attack/Crimes Torn app to maintain activity whilst mobile.

Hehe - TTAC is a nice acronym.

However, the "human" element is totally lost - interaction is void.

I think personally - that "interaction" is "key" to staying with the long term game.

I'm sorry all you can do is resort to attacks because you can't come up with something intelligent or logical to say. You obviously do not understand the time it takes to code something like Torn. It's not something you just do in a day, and that be the end of it. Having a background in this sort of thing I can tell you it is a constant thing in your day to day life to implement, test, change, and create new things. Sure, players like you may see it as a once every few months thing, but you have absolutely no idea what goes on in the background.

I dare you to learn the languages I know, then tell me it's easy.
