Just wondering if there is even coding for this upgrade? I just upgraded Brawn to 9/10 after resetting my merits, I attack people in my warbase daily and people for often and have noticed absolutely nothing in terms of higher strength.

This cost 2500 points to reset, so to say I am annoyed would be an understatement. I still hit the same people for roughly the same damage to the same body parts.

Perhaps a look at the coding is needed?

have a look at your strength stat. if the colour of your stat is green then the merits wont make a difference , they only work whilst your stats are weaker

What? Where on earth did you get that info from? The merits give an additional passive boost to strength, or they are atleast supposed to.

torn city basics.. maybe the info is incorrect but its stated in there that the passive effect of such merits are only beneficial when you have stats that arent high enough to be in the green colour banding. once you have got your stats to a green colour band the passive effects are then not noticable

look at your stats on home page , you will see your stats have a colour to them , if they are green in colour then from what torncity basics have said then the passive effect wont make any difference.. like i also said maybe that info is now incorrect . some of it is out dated admittedly so.

I have 4 upgrades on brawn and don't notice any difference either, I noticed this ages ago but didnt think much of it.

It would be great if Chedburn can check/re-check the code and see if it clash's with any other merit upgrades. E.g if you have a weapon mastery upgrade do they work together? Cancel each other out, etc?

i think the passive upgrades only work when you are attacked not when you atack others

bing defines

In games, a Passive skill/stat means it is ALWAYS working, without any action from the user.
Getting a definition of the word makes no difference to what it means in a game.

Edit:

This upgrade will give you a passive bonus to your strength stat.
This upgrade will not increase your actual viewable stat number, but you will notice the effects during attacks.

"during attacks"

It does not say when defending or attacking, therefor it should be working for both.

TCBasic: http://tcbasic.com/information/merits

Description: These increase your stat effects by a certain percent (about + 5% per upgrade). This increase is not shown on your stats page, but takes effect when fighting.
Brawn Gives a Passive Bonus to strength
Sharpness Gives a Passive Bonus to speed
Evasion Gives a Passive Bonus to dexterity
Protection Gives a Passive Bonus to defence

I don't know where you are getting your information, but it is NOT TCbasic.

Don't know if they are too underpowered or a bug.
Noticed not much difference when I upgraded brawn and weapon mastery too.

Can we get a response from chedburn? I am more than willing to do some extensive testing if he can refund my merits so I can keep resetting.

However, I am positive it didn't make a difference atleast on an attacking aspect between 0/10 and 9/10 on merits.

I'd really appreciate a response tho, 150mil spent to get better strength to no effect had me a little upset.

I checked it out, seems fine to me.

It looks like it should be working fine, if Brawn doesn't work, I imagine the other three don't work either. But I can't imagine this is the case. I believe at 10 it should give a 30% boost to the stat.

Does it increase the stat for attacking? This was the primary reason I upgraded brawn, to help me hit harder to take out higher life players faster. I haven't seen anything noteworthy, certainly not 30%.

I also would like to see an example of what this "30%" really means.
"rising stats as expected" can mean it does nothing as intended.

I'd also like to know what you mean by "I believe"...

If you coded it, why would there be any speculation as to what it gives at 10/10, it should give a specified amount, not an estimated amount? Correct?

It's not 30% of the damage, it's 30% increased strength stat. I tested this and the stat increased by 30% before being used in attacking. With 30% extra strength you should notice a slight damage improvement, but it's not going to be huge.

Okay. I see what your saying now.

Yes, that would make sense, and yes the results would be a lot smaller than I originally anticipated, however I still didn't see a difference, maybe the difference is still too small for me to make notice of I guess.

If you have 100,000,000 strength, increasing brawn to 10 would make attacking work as if you had 130,000,000 strength.

I think a lot of people who spend merits on stats do it without realising what effect it will actually have when they do it.

Thinking a 30% increase in strength equates to a 30% increase in damage is wrong.

The larger our stats become the less noticeable the effect is when we increase it further.

Say someone has 1 billion strength they will only notice a tiny difference to damage when they train it up to 1.1 billion.

Same with spending merits on it. Damage results are quite random so at times it will be difficult to notice any difference.

Would it be possible to have an extra part on the stats page showing what stats are with perks? Would show this merits thing much clearer...

I'll probably boost these upgrades to something like 100% at some point, that'd be cool. We'll go through all of them after the new attacking system is up.
