I bid 20mil on the Naval Cutlass Sword. The system said I did not have the highest bid (I don't remember the exact message) and it did not take my money. But when I look now, it shows me as the highest bidder.

8:09:01 PM You have been outbid on the Shabti Sculpture. You can withdraw your returned bid from the bank.

Got this event, now when I look at the auction house, it shows someone else listed for the sword, for 20mil and it is highlighted red (I assume to show me being outbid). Except the Shabti Sculpture is not highlighted red. I have not collected my money from the bank yet.

Same here for the RPG listing. It said that, but never took my money. I have a feeling if someone over bids me, I'll get a 100m check

Thanks, I don't believe you will receive the outbid refund, or win the auction. It is just an ordering display issue (as far as I can see). Making some changes now.

There are two Shabti Sculpture auctions, I imagine you were outbid on the other one!

I'm sure I was outbid. I assume the red highlight should be on the auction I was outbid on though.

Yeah, I can't see any reason for it not to show red. Everything seems fine to me. Are either of the sculptures red for you now? I'm sure you must have bid on the other one.

On row 8 I tried to bid on the Senet Board there because it was showing that it was listed only as $1 with 1 bid on it. I bid a small bid on it to get it going and I got this event:

Your bid was not high enough to compete with the current high bidder's maximum.

Please enter the amount you would like to bid on this Senet Board.

If you are outbid, your money will be returned as a Cashier's Check.

That was fine with me, so I went back to bid again. I put in another dollar amount and got the exact same thing 2 more times, but with the same dollar amount that I'm bidding. Also, it is showing that there have only been two bids on it and I've tried to bid on it 3x with all 3 being the same dollar amount. If this makes any sense?

Item seller: TGA_DeViL
High bidder: FaroeFighter Is the only bidder that I saw as the first and second bidder.

It is still highlighted in red when I click on it. I don't see where I'm doing anything wrong?

Hello. Not sure if I should open another thread, but this has just happened to me on a "Santa Hat" auction. I bid on it and it said I was outbid (no event; just said I was outbid when I submitted my bid), but yet it is showing my exact bid ($11,400,123 [I entered the 123 at the end so I'd know if it was my bid]) and is highlighted in red. It is also still showing the highest bidder as the guy who bid before me.

I havent used the new auction yet but as far as i can tell from what i read about it - this is not a bug but the new ebay like feature, where you input the maximum amount you want to bid and the system automatically bids on your behalf.

In this case the first bidder entered a maximum amount of x. The system bids the lowest possible amount from that range which would make him the highest bidder - 1$ if that was the first bid. When you made your bid it had to be lesser than the original bidders x, so the system raised his bid on his behalf.
Which makes it count as another bid i think but not sure.

After that if you keep bidding the same amount you are just matching the current bid, not outbidding.

Uh, does this make sense, or did i misunderstand somewhere?
Hope someone with more know can confirm (or deny, if its not true) this.

I get what your saying, but in my case the Auction House is telling me I was outbid (e.g someone just entered a bid higher than mine while I was submitting mine) but instead of showing someone elses bid it is showing my bid as the current bid just without my name as the highest bidder. It is also highlighting the auction in red, even though I have not bid on it (the bid wasn't accepted and no money was taken).

What's wrong with this? Seems fine to me. It limits the bid numbers so you can only up the counter once until someone else has bid on it. Otherwise someone could increase the bid count to hundreds or thousands themselves.

If the bid is say like $100,00 and I want to bid $100,1001 it comes back and says that my bid wasn't high enough. So, I go back and bid another bid and it says the same thing. All along it is putting in the exact number of which I am bidding on which wasn't there in the first place. And so on and so on. If this makes any sense? And it is still highlighted in red.

When someone bids - they enter a maximum e.g. I want to bid up to 100M .. when you stick in 100k it will change their bid to match it - hence you are automatically outbidded and see it in red .. this will happen over and over until they are outbidded..
IMO - their replaced bid should be higher than the amount you entered - otherwise there is an advantage for setting a bid down at the items max and knowing you will always, at least, break even.

For example I bid on a Santa Hat. The Highest bidder was 200k so I put 333k on it. Then it says this:
"Your bid was not high enough to compete with the current high bidder's maximum.

Please enter the amount you would like to bid on this Santa Hat.

If you are outbid, your money will be returned as a Cashier's Check."

When I go back to take another look at it, someone has already bid 333k on it and their last action is 40 minutes ago.

That is how it is meant to work. Although the current bid was set at 200k the highest bidder might have had a maximum bid of 5m for example. When you bid 333k, because the other person had their max set to higher number you were automatically outbid and the current bid was increased to 333k.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proxy_bid
Proxy bidding "the system that Ebay uses" always sets the current high bidders current bid to the next higher bid increment when someone else bids...not the new bidder's exact bid. Their bid should only match the new bidder's bid if the new bidder bid the exact same max bid as the current high bidder.

Examples:

John sets his max bid to $10. He is the first bidder, and the bid increment is $1.
Amy sets her max bid for $5. Because the current high bid is $1
The "proxy bidder" in this case the system should set Johns current bid to $6, not $5. Amy should get a message that says her bid wasn't enough to outbid the current high bidder.

in another auction, Amy bids $5.
John sets his max bid to $5 because he sees a current bid of $1.
He get's a message that says his bid wasn't enough to outbid the current high bidder.
Amy's current bid is $5 only because the system cannot raise her bid to $6, and she gets priority because she bid first.

That is how Ebay's system works, Torn's system was described to be "like" Ebay's system therefore that is how I expected it to work...but I don't think this is really a bug...it works exactly as the programmers intended it to. To me this would be a flaw in design, or a flaw in description.

I bid 1M for Devil's Pitchfork and much later got a message that I'd been outbid. New bidders bid is now 1M. As I said I was willing to pay 1M first, shouldn't they have to bid $1,000,001 before they outbid me?

No, the new bidders bid was 1,100,000. But it was set to 1,000,000 because that was your old bid.

The word outbid suggests they'd pay more than me rather than my maximum.

I'm unaware of an auction site where the new bidder doesn't pay more than the previous one.

To illustrate ebay works like this although their increments are different....

"Example
The current bid for an item is £10.00. Neil is the high bidder, and has placed a maximum bid of £12.00 on the item. His maximum bid is kept confidential from other members.
Loraine views the item and places a maximum bid of £15.00. Loraine becomes the high bidder.
Neil’s bid is incremented to his maximum of £12.00. Loraine's bid is now £12.50.
We send Neil an email that he has been outbid. If he doesn’t raise his maximum bid, Loraine wins the item."

There are two Shabti Sculpture auctions, I imagine you were outbid on the other one!

My mistake, I noticed the other one and that is in fact highlighted. I wasn't scrolling though all the pages figuring it was on page 2 when I bid, why would it be further back. But it was a longer auction so it got bumped to end.
