You've earned these merits by attaining 133 medals and 78 honors
I had 220 merits and 0 purchased before I reset my merits. Now I still have 220 merits (40 unused atm), but now it says I have purchased 9 merits.
I have never purchased merits. I couldn't afford them long ago when the option was more open, and then I didn't qualify to buy them on the old system (i.e I had already earned more than 2 merits per level).
Rather than spend like 7000'ish points to buy my 28 merits when the new system came out, I opted to use 500 and reset my merits until the price of artifacts/flower sets fell back to 50k'ish per point equivalent. Please set my merits purchased back to 0 so I can buy the full amount I qualify for based on my level. I am not sure where the extra 9 merits came from, but I certainly did not buy them.
Please mail me to confirm that I will be included on a fix to this feature
That does not even it out. If I had not reset my merits, I would still have them. I just lost 9 merits from resetting. Newbies could bitch about oldies having 9'ish extra merits, but likewise there were no property rentals, no PI's, no easy cash for buying / renting PI's, and no flower running for easy cash.
I earned those 9 merits with my long-term dedication to the game.

I've just given you 1,000 points, please use these to buy the 4 merits back. This issue has since been resolved and should not happen again.
No, the issue hasn't been resolved.
The points given to me by Ched have enabled me to repurchase four of the missing five merits. But those merits count against my merit purchase cap reducing the number of merits I am able to buy in future.
Therefore, I am able to purchase four less merits than every single other person in the game. That is now the issue.
To reiterate: The issue is not the missing merits, the issue is the repurchased missing merits counting against my cap.
Also, I was given 1000 points to enable me to purchase four merits when I was actually missing five.
I just got my banner for 50 trips to the UK but i don't believe i got the merit i had one and leveled up to 45 so that should be 2 plus the UK merit would make three can some one please check this for me.
I've got the same problem - I'm sure I've never ever purchased a merit before as my award count has always been far ahead of the old level/award based criteria for trading points for merits (I was a level holder for a long time until fairly recently and never had the option to trade points for merits in the old system).
I do know that I had one extra merit someplayers didn't have - the low-level theft merit that was removed when the award system was revamped a fair while ago.
Apart from that I haven't bought a single merit so they've all been given by the system.
Results shown on merit purchase dialog:
You have 209 awards consisting of 82 honors and 127 medals.
You have used 186 merits on upgrades and have 33 merits free to spend.
You have 10 additional merits and can purchase 18 more.
The numbers add up, but like I said I've never ever been able to buy merits before the merit purchasing update and I have not yet purchased any merits since the update, so I don't know how/why I've got 10 extra merits credited against my account.
Edit: I can't remember that far back but if players were given 9 free merits as "compensation" for the crash of '07 as mentioned above and I had the extra merit from the low-level theft award that was removed then that would account for the 10 extra merits - I do have the merits of course, but should they be counting against the merits that I can buy now?
I lost an extra merit/points whilst trying to post up my merit purchase details in addition to the four that you so kindly gave me points to re-buy.
Also the points you gave me to repurchase the additional four missing merits count against my merit purchase cap, thereby reducing my ability to purchase merits in future. I'm therefore at a disadvantage as I can purchase four less merits in future.
An additional issue seems to be that merits that people were credited for the merit resets and downtime issues in the past also count against the merit purchase cap
You have 10 additional merits and can purchase 22 more.
Those ten merits (credited or purchased to replace missing merits or given as compensation) have reduced any future purchases I might wish to make putting me at a significant disadvantage compared to people who haven't lost merits to bugs.
An additional issue seems to be that merits that people were credited for the merit resets and downtime issues in the past also count against the merit purchase cap.
^^ This is the issue.
I'll bet the issue of compensation merits for all the fun times we went through back in '07 and the few free merits we'e been given since then never even entered the discussion when the merit-purchasing update was being planned.
Now that the "compensation" that was given back then has been turned into something that everybody can buy with a minimal amount of cash there you have now effectively taken that compensation away from those that it was given to.
Saving some cash on not having to purchase those compensation merits (and the occasional freebie that has been handed out since then) now is not really a suitable substitute, because it is a insignificant amount of cash for players old enough to have played through those troubled times back in '07 and the eventual downtime that resulted.
I was expecting to be able to buy my full allotted quota of merits based on my level just like everyone else was with the merit-purchasing update, but now that is not possible due to what appears to potentially be an oversight.
Yes, it's additional merits. I.e. Merits over your medals + honours. So any merits you got which didn't come with a medal / award will be additional merits and count towards the cap. That's how we make it fair for everyone, so everyone can earn all merits at some point. Otherwise a small group of players would have additional merits out of nowhere.
If the merits were credited for game issues - then you've received the benefit of them for five years and don't have to spend points to buy them now.
So compensation for the lack of service back in '07 (which was a bit more than just "game issues") now has an expiry date and/or can be bought for a relatively insignificant sum of cash?
(~$110 mil in today's money is spare change and it's much much less than that if you take the flower route and/or use museum item finds to get some of the points)
Doesn't quite sound right but whatever, just another small way in which older players are marginalised in favour of newer ones. We stick around just to keep getting slapped in the face time and time again...
