unless i use a proxy i cannot access torn online and because i am using a proxy i am unable to play poker/slots as they are flash games of course.

now i have used ccleaner and cleaned all cookies ect

i have Google chrome and Firefox and i7 and the same problem on all of them i have 10mb broadband and load YouTube ect instantly but i time-out on torn and any of its pages.

i have cleaned my dns by going to star then run and typing it in

i have used Google dns

i am out of ideas i just cannot access torn on my pc any more and neither can 4 of my friends from work, they stopped playing and have no problems with their comp or net and i asked them to try it out and they have the same problem they just cant access torn.

any ideas?

thanks for reading

Hmm, the only reasons for this I can think of are:

1. Your ISP is blocking Torn for whatever reason. This is unlikely as you would probably get a message on the time-out page from your ISP.

2. There is a program on your computer that is blocking access to Torn. Either a security program or firewall, may be malware but that isn't likely either. Try disabling your firewall/security program and then accessing Torn.

You still can't access Torn? Hmm, I really don't know what to do from here with your results.
Do you access the internet using a wired/wireless router?

you cannot play flash while using proxy
at my previous workplace I used proxy too and i couldn't play casino too , it's got something to do with the proxy server ( session cookies and java cookies are diffrent things , therefore your cookie for logging in is passed trough proxy but the java cookies is blocked )

this is mainly for security reasons and it's default for almost all of the proxy servers ( unless you want to lose security and gain functionality )

can't be fixed IMO , not from the torn staff/devs at least

I think his problem is that he can't access Torn normally, not that the casino games won't work with a proxy. That's kind of a given already :x

Did you do a traceroute to see where the connection is dropping?

Your traceroute is fine so that means it's either:

1. Some setting on your computer or software
2. Some setting with your modem/router

To see if it's #1, I would suggest booting in safe mode with networking support and seeing if you can access Torn there. For #2, you'd have to remember if you changed something in the setup that caused this. If you did, I'd recommend restoring it to factory settings/default setup.

Have you tried using HTTPS? It worked (and still does) for me.

Confirming for Davzz

Alex,
There is quite a bit of this happening which does not seem specific server related. Flushing dns etc does not clear the issue up.

I did some detailed investigation on this with Heather, looking at raw packet traces on our frontend servers.

The TORN frontend servers get a TCP RST packet from the client, which means either
a) The client PC is closing the connection (Security software, etc.) [this was eliminated from the test machine by booting it into a Linux live CD, so I dont think this is the cause]
b) The client network is closing the connection (e.g. Schools may have proxies, the Great Firewall of China etc.)
c) The ISP in the middle is sending the RST packet.

For the user I was testing in detail yesterday it turns out their ISP (Virgin) has a well published policy of 'throttling' some network connections to busy sites, and it does this by means of sending RST packets.

I am therefore almost sure that this is the problem, which frustratingly is something we can't do anything about
