I didnt unlock any medium class gym when the gym bar got completed!!!:S

Not a bug, you were assuming you received and unlocked global already, which isn't true.
when you got into davies. You started working on unlocked the global gym. You already had this gym from the start, but you still have to unlock that one before. So the bar you filled was to fill up global gym.
Now you are filling the bar for the knuckle heads gym, the first one of the middle gyms. This is not a bug. You never unlocked global in the first place, you were only given the membership for free. Doesn't mean you received the gym experience for that gym.
Hope this helps as an explanation.
