I know how to unlock 3 combination chests, just type in the number 1-9 in each time. 1-3 then 4-6 etc. keep going until you've done them all, you should crack it or have the combination for other locks. then it's just a matter of guesswork, which is fine because you should have enough chances left over. I don't know how to unlock 1 or 2 combination chests, for me it's just random luck good or bad.

3 is very easy, 1-3, 4-6, 7-9 and you will have had 3 yellows/some greens, take note of where they are and you will do fine!

2 is easy, just do 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8 and by then you should have had either 1 or 2 yellows/ a green/ or know that one or both is 9.

1 is guesswork.

EDIT;
Green means the number is correct.
Yellow means the number is correct in one of the other locks.
Red means the number is incorrect.

Just to clarify!

It seems 1 would be easiest. start with 2. If you get yellow it is 1 or 3. If you get red, move to the number 5. If that is yellow, you know it is 4 or 6. If 5 is red as well, move to 8. I suppose you run out of turns quicker by eliminating numbers.

Well, I tried almost every combination but all I see is red. Has it been changed this year?

Best method I know of for 2 pin and 3 pin chests are...

3 pin

234,567,891 Now I doubt you'll need to try all three times. Because by starting off on 2 you can either confirm or deny #1 is being used in the combination after the second try or so. Which makes it a lot easier. Now I don't know if they did this last year or I can't remember but sometimes you'll get a 3 pin combo with 2 of them being the same number. Had me down to my last try after going through all the numbers to realize this. Took a 50/50 guess and got it right lol.

2 pin

25,36,47,18 Really helps narrow down the possibilities of the numbers used. Rarely ever have I had to use #9 in a 2 in combo but I guess it's possible. And if you hit a lot of reds you'll know right away.

1 pins, just come down to luck. I usually start from 4 and hope I get it within the allotted tries lol.

Yellow does not mean the number is "close" to the real number, yellow means it's the correct number but wrong position. Just like the board game Mastermind. It's impossible to get yellow in chests with 1 number.
Red is wrong number.
Breaking a 1 numbered chest is a 50/50 chance.
Breaking a 1 numbered chest is a 55% chance.

I use this system as well.. Simple process elimination.

Possible if you get a 2 numbered combination lock and the final number is 9-9

That is my fault. I thought yellow was "one away". That will make cracking safes a good bit easier. Errrr ummmm I hope. Thanks for the information...
