From a recent news article-
As many as 50,000 stray dogs roam the streets and vacant homes of bankrupt Detroit, replacing residents, menacing humans who remain and overwhelming the citys ability to find them homes or peaceful deaths.
Don't worry there is more,
The Detroit Police Officers Association is warning citizens and out-of-towners that they enter Detroit at their own risk, saying that the "grossly understaffed" and overworked police force cannot adequately protect the public in the increasingly violent city.
and more.... [A Detroit man says his business is being held hostage by a group of teenagers who continually loiter inside and out of his gas station...... Surveillance video obtained by FOX 2 shows as many as a dozen teens hanging out inside the store, smoking cigarettes, sitting on countertops and even spitting into sinks Is it really modelled after torn city ? post your 2 cents below.

sounds fairly rough.

genuine question (however off topic): why are americans so convinced that theirs is the best country on this planet?

to be fair though, i'd be more than happy to live in a city of dogs.

Quick! Everyone, to Detroit, collect your own dogs!

This is nothing new. Detroit response times to emergency situations have been terrible for years. You can call the police in Detroit and they may not show up until the next day. Its a local known fact that if u need an ambulance in Detroit you are better off driving yourself or having someone driving you to the hospital.

The mayors office and city council has been littered with corruption and incompetence. A recent mayor was convicted of federal charges and sentenced to 20yrs in prison.

Not all Americans think America is the best country. Honestly I feel like this is a great misconception about us. Everyone has a view of the stereotypical American. I am not saying that we don't deserve it, as there is a huge percentage of trashy wastes of space here, but we are not all like that. It really is a shame that we are defined by stupid people, rednecks, gluttons, corrupt politicians as well as the idiot ones and to be honest a government that really just embarrasses the entire country. Oh well.

Yes but apparently it was not always a s**t hole to live in nor did 50,000 stray dogs roam the streets. They seem to be lagging behind torn a few years but the mayor is sure to ban dogs soon

There are some places in america which just arent suitable for civilised normal people to live in

It wasn't?

Hmmm. Well it has been a shithole for longer than Torn has existed, which I believe was his point.

Just like a hundred other major cities in the US, Detroit has many very prosperous, wealthy suburban communities surrounding a very dead and decaying core. I think the term "urban sprawl" is appropriate.
Most of the city limits of Detroit should be leveled but theres no money to do it.

The statement by the Police, while it may be truthful, is mostly a political maneuver directed at the Emergency City manager, appointed by the State of Michigan because Detroit defaulted on loan payments and went bankrupt, to protest budget and personnel cuts.

Those dogs are only becoming a problem now that all the Chinese restaraunts have left town.

America WAS ONCE the greatest country in the world. The main problem is we fixed something that wasn't broken. We replaced doing things the way they worked and were successful with things that seemed nice at the time. Our country is on a downward spiral, kinda like the Roman Empire.

Very similar to the roman empire if you really look into the history of rome, for example militarily over extending itself and not spending enough money building infrastructure towards the end (as well as making a lot of barbarian enemies).

you seem to have missed that an empire has authority over its lands. having military bases everywhere doesn't say much about actual control over those places. some of those bases even pay rent to occupy the land they're in. in the eventuality of a war, guess who will be the first ones going down.
