Hey jackass i said "about 10 years" it is actually 8.. but it will be going on TEN years soon.. The point is that this game has blown up since it was first released.. And ched HAS been declared a millionare.. Several years ago he was.. Yet again ill post the link, even though i already did once.

Because we expect a decent service if we are paying customers, end of. Xbox doesn't have this lag or unexpected logouts for years on end or chat which doesnt work sometimes, and its system is alot more complex / userintense than this one. It's just a text game. Yet they cannot figure out the simple things, almost 10 years experience too. Works both ways, how can it still have problems after 10 years?!
That's why we complain. We're used to good service. We pay for the hope we get a similarly good service. And when we don't, we have more than a right to complain.

I use to blame chedburn for lag and downtime but decide to look in to what it tke to run a text base game like this

Funnily enough I shell out over 40% of my wage to Her Mag and expect to get a service from the Government. Ironically, I seem to get feck all in return.
What I have left, gets syphoned off to keep the ex/credit card/etc happy.
Here, I pay a pittance per month for a modicum of pleasure.
Some of you need to lower your expectations/standards a little and realise that life really is this shitty/laggy.
Because if your's wasn't, you wouldn't be in this forum moaning about lag...

Okay guys, i understand why you are all mad. Lag, downtime, servers failing.. Upsets me too.. But why blame Ched? He created the game.. Has had the game running for nearly TEN years.. I've been here with all you guys for more than half of torns existence.. I am very impressed what our Ched has done.. This game has blown up, Evolved if you will into an amazing online text-based game. You wont find another text based game out there with the complexity like torn.. I would love to see all you who complain of the downtime EVERY time it happens try to run torn as it is now, Let alone build it from the ground up. The lag is upsetting, but the updates are worth it.
Now i assume i'll get ALOT of hate for this. So if you wish to hate on this thread, Just PM me where we can battle it out in isolation.
We all love torn, we can handle this few imperfections in the servers. |

i say if the lag ever gets fixed, the people who didnt bitch should still have artificial lag and less features then the rest of the community, because they didnt help fixing the lag!
You useless f**ks are freeriding on fast torn, what is essentially a direct result of people bitching and moaning in the forums all day! great effort. im sure positive thinking can fix the servers!
In the newsletter it says developers have to wake up in the middle of the night to fix server stuff and preppare 3 course goat meals for the gods...

Okay, we no longer want any foul language or flaming in this topic. Go back on the topic at hand without flaming or this will end up graved.
yes the game has had one rather medium length downtimes lately, is it that bad? Don't think so.
The game is up 99+% of the time. Compare this to any other website and you'll find out quality service is pretty good.
With 'up' I clearly mean, you can click on it and it loads, ok granted something slowly, but it loads.
Crashes CAN happen any time, for any reason. is it Ched's fault? Doubt it. Could it have been a coding issue, yes.
Has it been fixed? Yes currently it is.
Did it last long? This is a personal answer, no. 44mins of not having access to the site is hardly life changing.
Will it happen again? Probably, but let's hope not.
Does it happen often? Clearly not.
Does doing something else for an hour hurt you? Don't think so either.
People argued about the downtime of 5hours on the 3rd of December, the game was down for 44mins (as shown on the newly added statistics), there was big lag when loading pages for the other 4hours, but it was loading if you had a minute of patience.
Is it irritating? Yes, I myself was here clicking a few times, but just went to do something else for that time. Not going to hurt me.
Also someone said the new statistic is purely a propaganda thing. I don't see it like that.
You are given the facts. To be honest when I look at it, I'm surprised there are more downtimes then I expected. tiny ones of a few minutes. Definitely surprised me. Did I see or feel any of these? not really, only felt the 44min one. Which was even fixed as soon as possible.
I think people need to be just a bit more relaxed about this. Bad things happen everywhere, you just have to go with what you have. The whole development team does a great job imo.
Whether or not you can follow this idea, is up to you. but I'm just a bit tired about just a handful of people arguing about the site being down 'AGAIN', while clearly it's up 99.7% of the time. You can hardly argue about that imo.
Anyone having issues or ideas or arguments against this, feel free to share.
Keep in mind, We no longer want any more foul wording in this topic.
if you have something to share, you can as well do it decently.
Have a good discussion about the good and the bad, but there is no need to use foul language.

How are those stats measured? There was clearly more than 44 minutes of downtime that day, and even the times the site was up, it took 14 refreshes per page view. I would consider not being able to take a xanax and actually train the energy within 10 minutes as downtime. Even still though, 99.7% is nothing to brag about, anything less than five nines should be unacceptable. Do you want to be Facebook or Myspace?

Why blame Ched? He is the king mucky-muck, runs the show and has cashed in on all the kool-aid drinkers who have filled his pockets. People who spend REAL dollars have a right to good service, not to be pissed on, ignored and treated like crap. If there was good customer service and communication, this would not be an issue.
The "game" exploded years ago, if anything it is on a downward trend now, just look at the player numbers.
WHAT updates have been worth the LAG & brokenness??? Name ONE!!!!
I pay twice what Torn costs for WoW and get 100x better service. I get responses to problems, communication of down-time, do NOT have to worry about getting RIPPED off (aka, having stuff stolen), staff that treats people with RESPECT, not to mention the game is WAY better (value wise) than Torn ever was or will be.
Until management starts treating people right, with the dignity they deserve, the bitching will continue.

Anyone else noticed that over the past few weeks, both Tumblr and Facebook have had major outages (from 30 minutes to almost 4 hours) caused by issues both beyond their control and their fault.
Chedburn, Davzz and the other developers are doing their best to keep downtimes down to an absolute minimum and resolve the lag. You moan when they don't tell you anything and you're moaning still with almost daily updates in the announcements thread. What do you guys actually want?
Why don't you compare Torn's uptime to the likes of Facebook and Tumblr's servers which are unable to keep up with the traffic, (Tumblr raising more than $85m in investments last year alone, which I'm pretty sure is way more than Torn's server budget)?

why don't you compare the traffic of all 3 instead of trying to compare budgets?
