Anyone who says blackjack on TC is unfair and "a big meanie pants" needs to learn how to properly play blackjack.

First and foremost, please understand: Torn blackjack is not a normal game of blackjack.
This game utilizes a single deck shoe that is reshuffled each hand. That completely throws out 98% of the strategy cards you will find. I've only encountered one place in real life where you can actually find this kind of game: Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Vegas. A guy walking around will let you play this exact method. It's extremely rare. So please understand that the odds, hitting/holding strategies and betting are much different than what you are used to.
The most important thing to remember is that a single deck shoe, reshuffled each hand, has many more bust cards statistically speaking.

You'd be surprised how often the dealer will bust. Everyone complains about how much they, themselves bust. Do yourself a favor and hold more often. You'll actually get to see the dealer busts a lot too. In a 52 card shoe that is reshuffled each hand, there are more busts than a normal game of blackjack. Test it for yourself using very low bets to see what I mean. Hold your 12-16 (that most would normally hit on) to the dealer's 2-6 shown card and take note of how much he busts as well.
If you have 12 and hit, you better just assume you'll get a 10. I sure do.
- 52 cards - 16 of them are 10s. Considering you start off with two, dealer starts out with two, and assuming neither one of you has a ten in your combined 4 cards, that is 16 out of 48.
That means, statistically speaking, one out of every three hits to your 12 would bust you.
BAD odds for you.
Now don't reply "haha! see I busted 4 times in a row on 12! - so you are wrong KharmyKharmaPants!! "
And, statistically speaking, you would have a 1 in 3 chance of hitting a ten on your next card and busting on a 12-16. Period.

That being said, let me give you a few pointers.
First You don't always hit on 12s-16s. If you are holding one of those hands at the start and the dealer is showing a 2,3,4,5, or 6 - many times it is best to NOT HIT. You are banking that the dealer has a ten hidden and he will bust. Many hands are won for players this way. The dealer has to hit on 16 or lower - rules of blackjack. Sometimes you hold low to let him bust. Puts the odds in your favor.
Note: The dealer, by rule, must always hit on a hand of 16 or less. When he shows a 5 or 6, you are hoping he has a ten hidden. In this case you are hoping the dealer will "bust". When the dealer shows a 5 or a 6, it may be best to not hit your 12-16 hand. Just hope he busts.

Secondly, you don't always split. The biggest mistake ppl make is splitting Tens. DON'T DO THAT. 20 is a solid hand. Splitting tens is a horrible move and will get your ass kicked if you are sitting at a table full of ppl that know how to play - trying to get the dealer to bust.

Thirdly, Doubling down is a privilege, not a right. Use it sparingly. Doubling down needs to be done with two things in mind. According to your hand and the dealer's hand.
Example: You have 11. The dealer has a 6. This is the perfect time to "double down". You will get one and only one card - hoping that it is a ten. But if it is not a ten, have no fear. Say you get a 2 - thus making your hand 13 now. The dealer has a 6. You hope he has a ten hidden - giving him 16. He must, by rule, hit 16. Your 13 hand could win when/if he busts.
Now say he has a ten or an ace showing. You have 11. Some would say double down - personally I would not. That is preference. Bit more chance that he won't have 20 or blackjack and take twice your money. In that case, I prefer to go with a standard hit.
Never, ever, ever double down with a 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 showing to the dealer's 10 or ace. That is bad odds.
In general, if you are new, don't even think of doubling down unless you have 11 and the dealer is showing a 5 or 6.

Fourth(ly? ), If you have ace, ace, or 7,7 or 8,8 - Then split them. If you have 2,2 or 3,3 this may be good to split (preference) and definitely if the dealer is showing 3-6 (hoping he will bust).
You can hope for a ten on the 7s,8s or Aces or try to build on low hands like 2s and 3s or Aces if you weren't lucky enough to get a ten with that Ace.

Fifthly, Be smart on your wager. First say "hey there Billy....how much can you AFFORD to lose today?" Set a number and divide that by the number of tokens you plan to play with that day.
Example: 90 tokens 50 mil you are willing to "gamble" with. 50 mil divided by 90 tokens = $555,555 per hand. Don't bet more than that per hand. Only wager that each time.
Don't be greedy and make the mistake of betting more than you can afford.

Lastly - Do Not Blame Ched For Your Failure.

*Other comments of noteworthiness.*
*There are "soft" and "hard" hands.
Ace, 5 is called a "soft" 16. Ace, 4 "soft" 15 etc. Soft because you have the option to hit again because an ace is either 1 or 11. You can safely hit on a "soft" hand b/c it is not necessarily locked in.
A "hard" 16 is anything that makes up 16 that doesn't have an ace.
Difference between hard and soft is the ace adding ability to play with the hand a bit more.

If you had a "soft" 16 (ace, 5) you would be more inclined to hit hoping for another ace (1), a two, 3, 4 or 5. But even a ten would give you 16 - leaving you no worse off than you started.
Soft hands can add a bit more "luck" to your side.
Play them accordingly.

* This game mimics a single deck, "reshuffled" every hand. For this reason you have to think a bit outside the box from a "real life game".

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Note from Kh4nN (and -Phoenix)*
hey, ya might want to add (to your 21 tutorial) that Ched has implemented the "Charlie rule" for this game... 5 cards under or at 21 wins automatically. See his response here:

www.torncity.com/forums.php?forumID=2&ID=1857453&start=45
Thanks guys Very true. I myself "lost" to a hand of 17 while holding 20. Since the dealer used 5 cards to add to anything that didn't bust - he won. Thus 5 card Charlie

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Good Questions
ForeverYoung:
-I was looking through the web for more blackjack tips, does the AI in tc stand or hit on soft 17?
-Most casinos make the dealer hit on a soft 17 (ace, 6-ace being a 1 or 11- makes it soft). It is indeed confirmed - The dealer stands on soft 17 (ace,6) in TC blackjack

Also how many decks are used?
-Ched doesn't disclose how many decks are used in the "shoe". Pretty sure there is no such thing with the random generator. Thou it appears to mimic "one deck". Personally, I've found it to be quite fair. My first three days, I won 1 mil each day gambling only 50k a bet.

It's best to set yourself a limit to lose or win. I personally make 20 mil a day and quit. If you keep endlessly going, you will probably lose since the house does have the advantage - just like in real life.

Nice sticky

Of the money you are willing to use, how much do you think you should start with if one is using the Martingale betting system?

Welllll not to sure how to answer that one.

See, really, as you know, the more shots you have at the chase, the better Sooooo all depends on what you want your cap to be

I will tell you exactly what I do. Now, I don't want anyone to think they have to mimic me or take this as advice. I am only telling what I do....it can be mimic'd to the same degree or in a relative betting style.

I set a 20 mil a day cap. I make 20 mil and leave. No further pushing. Make 20 mil and stop for the day having "beat the house"

Ok....I start with a bet of 320k. SInce you are very aware what the Martingale system is....I'll just tell you this. 320k base bet, I cap it to the 5 mil bet. Now that only give me 5 hands in a chase. If I fail the 5 mil hand I am roughly down 10 mil or so. I do not , however, bet a 10 mil bet. If I were to lose that I'd be down 20 mil and, really, one bet on one hand at that point isn't very good. I have another way to recoupe it.
So, now I am down 10 mil. I start over with a 640k bet (2x the original base) and do the Martingale. It takes roughly 12-13 hands to make up that 10 mil loss Then I am back to where I was before I ever lost!! Once I have overcome that 10 mil loss, I resort back to my 320 k bets til I have reached my 20 mil made for the day I love that method and It works for me evvvvveryday. Like magic. It gives you much better "odds" to win.

Also, only on one occasion have I had to do this....but say you run your 640k base betting Martingale chase....And you lost....I then start over with 1.28 mil base bets til I make up half the loss...then for the second half of recouping the loss I bet 640k base bets.....and once I have recouped the entire loss....back to 320k bets to make my 20 mil

Simple and not too complex once you get the hang of it

Soooo if anyone would like to use that method perhaps set your base bets lower. Such as 10k bets, or 75k bets....or 150 k bets....
PLLLLLLEEEEEEAAAAAASEEEEEE Do not assume that just by using this method or my guide that you are guaranteed to win. You still need a very good understanding of BJ, when to hit and when to stand as well as how to bet and when.

But, given all that, and if you follow my tips, you should bode well

My rules for DD and splits:

Double down on every 11.
Double down on 10 if the dealer shows a 5 or 6.

Split Aces and Eights.

I've found the most success doing that.

Yeah but you really double down on every 11? I only do for 3-6 showing. Otherwise I have bad luck/odds on that hit.
