If you are having problems connection to IRC due to a firewall, you can now connect to IRC via port 8001. To do this, just type /server irc.torncity.com:8001

I hope it's ok to post this here, but wanted to point out that I found another alternate way to get onto IRC for those that are *adjusts halo* playing from work and get a message saying something like "Unable to connect : java.net.SocketException : Software caused connection abort:" because of firewalls or lack of administrative privledges ... you can go to a webbased IRC applet on www.mibbit.com and enter the irc.torncity.com info into the servers address bar and tadaa! easy access to IRC.

I get that even when i have my firewall off and i've got full administrative privledges. Plus when i try mibbet.com it wont load for me. It will just sit on the loading screen. Any help or advice?

It means that too many people are trying to connect from that specific Mibbit server. Someone mind giving the mibbit servers an exception?

I have tried turning off my firewall, and changing the port, but no matter what I type it says-
[17:20:30] Disconnected from server.

I'd just like to add that if you use xchat you need to take the ":" out when you type
/server irc.torncity.com 8001
Otherwise irc tells you that you can't spellxP

I tried doing the fix you suggested and now i'm getting this...
[22:11:21] Error while loading style (styles/torn.swf): Error #2032
[22:11:41] Security error! Make sure you have port 6667 open (firewall). This is most likely a server problem. You tried to connect to irc.torn.com:6667
as soon as i open IRC the first message appears then a few seconds later the second one appears.
