A Cold Moonlit Night

The small town of Arondia lies in the mountainous northern section of the kingdom. Its few inhabitants have carved out an existence in this harsh clime herding sheep and farming what little the weather would allow. Overlooking Arondia is the remains of Castle Kharzov. Once an integral part of the Kingdoms defense, it now lays in war torn ruins from conflicts ages past. Until recently, the townsfolk have enjoyed a peaceful life far from drama and excitement of the capital.

A few shops consolidated amongst the scattered farmhouses and cottages make up the town proper. With no Mayor, Town Hall or even a Guard House, Arondia is little more than a rest stop for travelers. Most stay no more than a night and leave after stocking up on provisions.

Their Constable is a retired Watch Captain from the south. He has an easy job policing the land. His day consists of keeping a watchful eye out for arguments originating from the farmers market and perhaps the occasional stable hand falling asleep on the job before cleaning the stalls.

About a week ago, Arondia had a peculiar visit. A colorfully dressed band of foreigners driving a caravan of covered wagons showed up. They had strange accents and adorned themselves with excessive jewelry and trinkets. Rather than stay at the Inn, their band parked their wagons up the hill inside the ruined castle and made camp.

A few of their number came into town to trade. Friendly as the locals, they offered silks, wines and homemade jewelry. Entranced by the splendor, Arondia welcomed the strange travelers with open arms. Everything was going fine until that night

A few nights after the strangers arrived, there was a terrible storm. Most everyone had gone home early to secure their homes for the inclement weather. Thunder crashed and rain poured hard on the small buildings most all the night. By morning, the soggy town awoke to screams of terror and outrage.

A crowd of people were gathered amidst a damaged cottage on the outskirts of town. The broken door hung wide open and the Watch Captain could be seen searching through the home. Splashes of blood clung to the inside window panes. Most of what remained of the once friendly family lay on the floor of the cottage. Their bodies bloodied, mangled and half eaten as if attacked by a wild bear.

The woman of the house was strangely absent. As if a pack of wild beasts had broken in, slaughtered everyone and dragged off the womans body as a trophy. However, there were no drag marks. Granted the rains fell hard the night before, the sheer weight of a beast capable of such a horrific act would have left some trace of movement. There was none, save a few patches of scraggly fur inside the cottage.

The days that followed brought more tragedy. The Watch Captain formed a patrol to keep a lookout for the beasts. Much to their horror, they found the cause of the attacks when they followed the sound of screams from another home. A large wolf had broken in attempting to devour the defenseless family inside. A heated melee ensued with the retired Captain leading his untrained newly appointed deputies. The wolf fought viciously to the last breath. It wasnt until the Captain landed a lucky swing, completely severing the wolfs head from its body, that he would know the truth.

On the floor before him, he watched in amazement as the hulking wolf shrank and transformed into the now headless body of the missing woman from a few nights previous. The Captain consulted with the local Apothecary, who had his suspicions. But, it wasnt until one of the Captains previously bitten watchmen launched into a bloodlust fury and had to be slain were they sure the town of Arondia was suffering from an infection.

When another family turned up dead, something drastic had to be done. The wise Apothecary used his vast knowledge of herbs and potions to concoct a remedy that prevented the spread of the disease. He distributed it at the local Inn free of charge to be mixed with food. With the remedy in place, the wolves could no longer multiply. But, they would still want to feed at night when they changed.

The Guard Captain knew these wolves could not stay. They must be rooted out. He and a few other townspeople erected a makeshift stairwell leading to a stage near the town market. Upon the stage lay a stout chopping block and a large executioners axe beside it, a warning of what was yet to come.

Roles

Townies(15)
Watch Captain (Cop)
Apothecary (Doc)
Monk (Mason)
Monk (Mason)
Miller
Vanilla Townie x 10

Mafia(4+1)
Alpha Wolf (Godfather)
Werewolf x 3 (Goons)
Town Traitor (Mafia Spy)

Throughout the Day phase, all the wolves appear normal. At night all but the Alpha are forced to transform at some point into their monster form and can be identified by the Watch Captain if he chooses to follow one at night. The Alpha Wolf is able to control his transformation and thus appears as a normal townsperson to investigation. The Watch Captain is also allowed to message anyone he chooses at night.

The Apothecary can stakeout one persons home a night. If that person is attacked by wolves, the apothecary watches the wolves leave and then rushes in to administer life saving herbs and potions to protect the victim from death. The Apothecary cannot protect himself from harm.

The Monks are not from the local church. They are part of a secret Druidic sect that is generally not trusted by the common folk. Thus they keep their affiliation to themselves; they are still Townies and win during a town victory. The Monks special power is knowing each other at startup and being able to message one another at night to discuss strategy.

The Miller is a gypsy that got left behind when the rest of the caravan broke camp fearing a lynch mob from the recent events. Knowing all suspicion is on the Millers people, they have chosen to blend in with the local townsfolk until the excitement dies down. If the Miller is investigated, a guilty verdict will be sent back to the Watch Captain just as any other mafia. However, the miller is a townie and wins during a town victory.

Vanilla Townies job is to identify mafia and vote them for beheading by interaction during Day Phase ONLY. Once a majority vote on any one person has been reached, the Day Phase ends and the results of the death are revealed. The werewolves will make a quick transformation after beheading and revert back to their normal selves thus revealing their affiliation.

Because there are no Roleblockers and the Watch Captains investigation will succeed regardless of activity, the Mafia need not decide who is doing the killing each night. They just have to talk amongst themselves to decide who to kill. (Recommend using Chat over mail if its working correctly) The Alpha will make the final decision. If he is killed, the remaining wolves will become a democracy.

The Town Traitor is a townsman that is enamored by the idea of becoming a werewolf. Not only does he welcome the transformation, he does not ingest the Apothecarys herbs used to resist the disease. He wins during a mafia victory. However, he does not know who the werewolves are. Nor do the Wolves know of the Traitors identity.
If he is attacked at night, he will become a werewolf and be introduced to his teammates. After which he will have the nightly privilege of messaging his team. Thus, the Traitor will try to signal the mafia of his presence without making himself a target for beheading by the town. Alternatively, he can simply try to lynch as many townies as possible without being transformed. Either way, the Traitor wins with a Mafia victory.
On the off chance the Apothecary protects the Traitor during an attempted slaying, the Traitor is NOT transformed into full mafia. If the Watch Captain investigates the Town Traitor before he is recruited, he will return a Townie verdict.

General Rules
(New Players)

The object of the Game is to eliminate the other team. During the day, the Townies try to lynch all the Mafia by voting them for the chopping block. The Mafia tries to blend in getting the town to lynch itself while killing them off one at a time each night.

At any point during the Day Phase, players may cast a vote on another player. The proper way to do this is with Bold Red as in Vote Sam9000.

The format is [*b][*color=red]Vote PlayerName[/color*][/b*]
(Just remove the 4 asterix before posting)

You may change your vote as many times as you want during the Day Phase. The proper way to do this is:
Unvote Playername
Vote NewPlayer

(This will help keep an easier count of the vote tally by letting us know where your vote moved from)

The Game will begin with Day Phase. A majority of votes are required to decide a players fate. Because this requires much effort to affect a lynching, it makes the voting more telling. If someone is having trouble getting from 8 votes to 11 votes necessary for lynch on Day 1, it could be an indication theres 4 wolves that dont want to see that happen. Alternatively, if someone is racing to the chopping block, you may have the wrong suspect.

*Edit: Day Phase will last a minimum of 24 hrs. A majority can be reversed up till that time.
Once a majority of votes is reached on any player, the Day ends immediately and the Death Scene is written. Upon death a players role will be revealed and any Will previously submitted will be read.

After a player is dead, they can no longer post in the thread. Nor can they message players still in game regarding the Gameplay. Whatever that player needed to say before dying should have been said sooner or placed in a Will submitted to the Mod.

During Night Phase, no one should be posting in the thread. The Wolf Team can now message each other secretly to decide who to kill. After the decision is made, the Godfather (Alpha Wolf) messages the Mod who the target is and they wait to see how it played out.

Also at night, the Monks may message each other ONLY. This represents them meeting in secret at their Druid ring. The Watch Captain can message anyone he feels comfortable revealing his identity to. This is dangerous business though. Revealing yourself to Mafia or having a Townie slip up and give away your identity will likely end your career unless the Doc is alive and knows to protect you.

The Doc, Miller, Town Traitor (before recruiting) & Vanilla Townies may not message anyone during any phase of the game.

This game is only fun if everyone can be trusted to play by the rules. If you catch someone intentionally violating rules please report them to the Mod. We need to remove these players from further games so they dont ruin the fun of others.

No editing is allowed during the gameplay. This is to keep someone from concealing a slip up or making a post sound differently than it does (ie. Less suspicious). Although 90% of editing is for benign reasons, there is no way to verify if a particular edit was the other 10% reason. A Player editing their posts will receive the following:
1st offence: Warning
2nd offence: Last Warning
3rd offence: 1 day suspension of voting privilege and any nighttime power
4th offence: removal from play via Modkill

Everyone is given a role. You may use the flavor of your role if you choose to spice up your conversation. You may also Role-Claim if you think the situation is desperate to warrant such an action. However, you may NOT quote any portion of messages sent by Moderators. Doing so will result in your sudden death.

For instance a person facing 9 votes about to be lynched could say wait, Im the Watch Captain. Dont kill me.
However, a player cannot say, Whats the 12th word of your Role Message? I want to make sure youre a Townie. (Assuming all the Townie Roles are copied/pasted)

The Game ends if:
1. The Mafia kills enough people to permanently control the voting.
2. The Town lynches the entire Mafia.
Please remember this is a Team Game. If the living members of your team go on to win after your death, you still win. So be as helpful as possible until your demise.

If you are unsure about any rules, feel free to ask in thread or message a Mod if your question would reveal information youd rather not be public.

General Rules
(Veteran Players)

Vote in Bold Red Lettering

Do NOT edit posts. Editing will result in 2 warnings, a 1 day vote/power suspension and finally Modkill.

Do NOT message anyone unless you are Werewolf (only other Werewolves), Monk (only other Monk) or Watch Captain (Anyone) and then ONLY at night.

Edit: Day phase has a 24hr minimum. A majority can be reversed until that time.
A lynching will require a majority of votes from the existing players in game. (11/20, 10/18, 6/11, 2/3, ect.) After a majority is reached, the death scene is played, Night Phase begins and the thread is for game purposes Closed until the results of Night Phase are posted.

You may Roleclaim, or use the flavor of your PM, but NOT quote any portion of messages from Mods or you'll likely have a sudden death.

Please report any cheating you witness so we can remove those players from future games.

Player Signup

Please note, active veterans are given preferential signup over new players and inactive veterans. This game thrives on interaction and for Townies, the ability to find clues in the thread. If you are Mafia and hiding/lurking during the game that's ok. Your team isn't supposed to be helping the Town. But, if you are townie and don't contribute, complain about your role, or can't be bothered to read what's been posted, then you're actually a burden to your team and shouldn't be playing. It's ok to be an inexperienced or clueless Townie as long as you tried to help by staying active.

Also if you're planning a name change, please do it before the game starts.

A big thanks goes out to KipCurry for bringing this awesome game to F&G.

Please rate if you had fun playing.

True, there should be 3 or 4 of them to secure trust amongst a group instead of 2 individuals with relatively no power.

I think i'll sit this one out, or put me in as a reserve, just in case.

Skeptic is correct.

The Miller is a bit of a cursed role. He impedes the Watch Captain's investigation and adds a little spice to the traditional setup. Similar to the Godfather, the Miller returns an inaccurate result. Some advanced games actually use a secret miller. Those can be a big surprise.
