First of all i have to see i'm kinda stealing this game/idea from another not-to-be-named browserbased game, but i think it's something really awesome, and maybe the Torn community can make this work as well..

Basicly some Torn players enter a fictional mafia/town scene, where each time people have to vote who is mafia or town which ends up in lynching (town votes) or killings (mafia votes).
Please note the amount of players and time to choose can be customized, depending on how many players are willing to participate. Other customized roles can be added in following rounds.

Rules & Characters

The following are the categories of characters, all chosen completely at random (using an Excel spreadsheet formula) from the list of those signed up:
- 8 Mafioso's(includes 1 godfather, 2 Secret roles and 5 plain old badguys!)
- 1 serial killer
- 1 doctor
- 2 police officers
- 1 judge (alliance unknown)
- 9 townsfolk

This brings the total to 24 players and we will also list 1 reserve.
Each phase of the game begins with the night. The following can happen during this time:

-Mafia murder: Each night the mafia can debate among themselves to decide who to kill. After all is said the Godfather will have the final decision on who dies. Also the Godfather has to elect a single Mafioso who will take the task upon himself.
(should the Godfather be killed then the mafia will function as a Democracy).

-The Godfather will have the normal powers off being immune to night kills and he will appear innocent to should he be investigated.

- The serial killer chooses one person per night to kill.

- Doctor chooses one person to spare in the event that that person is chosen for death by the mafia families or serial killer. If the doctor tries to heal the SK, he will be cured and become an ordinary townsperson.

- Police officers can choose one person to investigate between them. They will then be told of this person's role. They can do what they like with this information but revealing it may make it obvious they are police and make them a target for the mafias/SK.

- The judge has the unique ability to make decisions when there is a votes draw at the lynching deadline. If there is a draw, the judge will secretly choose who will face the gallows. For now its unknown who the Judge will side with.


During the day, the town will find out who has been murdered. All townspeople (including the secret mafia members, serial killer, police officer, and doctor) can then vote who they think are the mafia. There will be a deadline to which townspeople must vote by. If there is a draw, the judge will have a set time to send his choice of who to lynch to the moderator. If the judge is dead and there is a draw or if the judge does not send his choice in time, the judge choice is void and the deadline will be extended and only those drawing will be voted on. If there is still a draw by the new deadline, there will be no lynching. Once the result is in, the person will then be dead and their role will be revealed. Then that round is over and night begins again when a mafia family, serial killer, police officer and doctor secretly make their next choices.


The mafia wins if they manage to kill everyone else off, including.
The serial killer wins if he/she is the last person alive and the rest win if they manage to kill both the mafia families and kill/cure the serial killer.

Everyone is allowed to post in the thread during the day phase to discuss who they think is mafia or try to make themselves less suspicious (if they are mafia!). You may NOT quote any part of messages sent by the game moderators. Doing so will result in your sudden death.

If any player miss the lynching voting on at most 2 occasions, they will be mod killed and replaced with a reserve. If no reserves are remaining, their role will be removed and revealed. Reserves will no longer be used after the 4th night.

If you die, the game is over for you and you are not permitted to discuss the game with any of the people still playing. Doing so will result in a ban from future games.

exactly, and that's the beauty of this game.. i've seen it been played over 40 rounds somewhere..

but offcourse, the game and its development completely depends on the people playing

I actually inquired with staff about this a while back. They said it was cool as long as I wasn't advertising another gaming site. I did run into a couple of logistics issues though...

There wasn't any secure group chat that the scummers/mafia/werewolves(whatever) could use to discuss strategy each night. The mail system doesn't have CC forwards, so conversations would be sluggish. And the GM wouldn't get to enjoy the discussion. They won't allow the GM to Mod his own thread either. So you can't close it temporarily at Night phase to avoid clutter.

I'd still love to play though if you get enough interest.

R+ for the effort.

i understand the issues, thanks for pointing them out..

idd the discussions could be problematic, alltho there are enough other system to reach out to eachother.. I'm thinking of a closed IRC room, skype im, msn (yup it still exists), heck even a private FB page or whatever.. Maybe a private forum or whatever. I'm not sure if any of my suggestions are doable, but it's just to give you an idea on the possibilities..

Exactly, it's mainly a forum game. No Torncity ingame killing and whatsoever is needed. People just send their votes or post them in a thread, after which the ones with the most votes are eliminated from the game

And you forgot some characters

Bus driver - You can choose 1 person to protect at night from harm.
Detective - Investigate a persons role. One person only for each night.
Zombie - Can choose a person to revive when that player dies that night. But will resurrect as a zombie.
Medium - Can communicate with zombies at night.
Witch - Can choose 1 player to control at night to kill someone.

Why leave out some characters :/

EDIT: Some descriptions from characters in the original game in W3TFT
Townie: The standard good guy. Completely average and plain in every way. Doesnt do anything but lynch.
Cop: Picks one person each night to check. Detects mafia alignment and independent/suspicious alignment, but cannot detect undead or cult alignment.
Doctor: Picks one person each night to protect from one attempted kill. In other words, if two people try to kill someone whom only a single doctor protects, that person will still die.
Vigilante: The avatar of civil justice. He can kill someone each night. However, he has a limited amount of ammo (the exact amount depends on a variety of factors).
Detective: An upgraded Cop. He detects the exact role of his targets rather than just alignments, and can detect all alignments/roles, except for the Godfather.
Serial Killer: Wants to be the only man left in the town, so he can kill someone each night.
Mafia Member: The standard bad guy. Talks to the other mafia at night and helps decide who to kill.
Zombie: The main undead role. He decides, with the other Zombies, the target for a Zombie raising. If the target is killed during that night, he will instead be revived and converted into a Zombie. Actually, his setup is fairly robust with power roles, over a third of the field. The major roles are all covered. (Cop, Doc, Townie, Bad Guy)

Let's say I'd wanna put my time & effort in this to make this work, what do you guys think would be best for ;

- Length of day/night phase
- Number of players
- Roles (personally i'd leave out zombie,medium & witch to keep it somewhat simple for starters and myself)

It would be the first time that i actually host such a game btw

Personally, since its the first time, I think you should have as few power roles as possible. All these hybrid/advanced roles got introduced by players who had spent countless hours playing the original game and needed something new to spice it up a bit. Most of the community hasn't played before. So the game is already new to them.

This could be a really nice addition to Fun N' Games. I think you'll get a lot more mileage out of the game by starting slow and then ramping up once everyone gets the hang of it. The core of mafia is the enjoyment of detective work and social manipulation.

Allright people,

it has been decided a first round of mafia will be held here. It would be a rather simple version with basic roles so you all can learn the mechanics a bit.
This is also my first time hosting it, so i'll be learning a lot as well.

i'm also happy to inform you that Gheed will be co-moderating this game, so we have 2 mods which is always a plus. That and we got the timezones somewhat covered.

So basicly we're working on it now, it shouldn't take that long anymore..

Signups/rules/roles etc will be handled in the official Mafia round I thread. I'd say keep on the lookout for it, since places are limited !
