the changeover to the new system a few months ago was not done properly, i study systems changerovers in school and i think that you tried to do it too quick and made simple but costly mistakes which can be so easily be made, good luck in sort this mess lol,

I do server change overs for a living (as well as program) and seriously i would get shit canned if my product worked as well as TC has over the last few months....

I agree that a new server was in order but I think relying on mysql a notoriously unstable sql server isn't the way to go...plus it would seem that after the ram fiasco during the first week of the new server that there are other hardware problems. (Dude I hope you didn't get a Dell) Databases and code don't go corrupt all of a sudden for no reason. So either the server hardware is shoddy or someone is playing with the code on the server without testing it first. Ched if you need a hardware diagnostics program mail me, I'll get ya something that will tell ya if you're ram or Hds are to blame. If its the staff then give them a simple lession in programming....
1. test
2. see rule number 1

Also why is it so difficult to implement updates? I understand it takes time to write new code but the switchover to the new code shouldn't take that long...you can add the fields to the database before hand without complications and the php pages can be uploaded whole when they are complete and bug tested. there should be no need to shutdown the server for hours to rewrite code.

Here is another question thats bothering me, there are many archiving software programs that will be able to backup a sql server with open records without having to shut it down and not tax it so much that users will notice that its being backed up. So whats the difficulty there? check out arcserv i think they have a linux version.
