I hate to be a fly in the ointment but your lag is still with us and is sometimes so bad one cannot even log in.
Thanks for yet another premature announcement.

Thanks for the update Dave. The game has been virtually unplayable for me for the last couple of days (I only managed to get on once yesterday, the rest of the time kept getting a weird error page).
Are there any plans to credit people with a couple of Donator days to make up for those lost during the down time? |
There was no down time. Nobody should have been unable to play at all. Only lag was present. I suggest you check your own end in the future if you had more extreme problems in relation to everybody else. |
Matty, I couldn't get on on my home network, at work or via my mobile - on all 3 I kept getting the error others have referenced. I suggest you check your facts in future as 3 different networks including a mobile one are highly unlikely to all be at fault and reading the comments here I didn't have more extreme problems than everybody else! The issues were with the www.torn.com address so I ask again that you credit all those affected with 1 day donator day back as the error was not at the user (or perhaps should say customer for those who have DPs) end but at TC's end.

Developers don't have time to fix the system as they are too busy rolling around naked in piles of money.

Hi Everyone,
Over the past 48 hours there has been serious Lag on Torn, and significant numbers of you have experienced "504" or similar errors.
We have found and resolved the root cause of this problem.
In addition, we will shortly be rolling out a system that will
- Provide more friendly errors messages, branded with the rest of the site
- Provide increased monitoring at a site level of the error rate to ensure we can respond quickly when error levels rise
- Provide increased information to us on the cause of errors
The occasional error page is inevitable in any large site, however the experience over the last few days has been unacceptable and we apologise for any affect this may have had on your enjoyment of Torn!
--Davz |
lets be serious, how many time have you guys claimed to fix lag over the past 5 years?
alot
and have you ever actually fixed it? no.

LMAO because you think it's not deserved or because you know it'll never happen? They're trying to say that there were no outages, that it was simply lag, and even had the gall to tell us to check our connections. I understand the legalese of way they have the donations set up, but how many people do you think would donate if there was no 'bonus' reward?
If your home internet had been crappy for two weeks, was unusable for two days, and was still out when they pronounced it "fixed", you'd be mentioning a credit to your ISP.

What?
It was simply bad lag. There were server errors, and all sorts of things, but I highly doubt it merits a mass crediting of donator days (as low a number as one..) to every person. The last time that happened was when there were actual data crashes and users lost their accounts and people were set back literally months.
I doubt you were even around to remember things like that, looking at your ID.
Just calm down, it's sorted or is getting sorted..quibbling over a day or so of donator status is just silly. I managed to log on about 3 times a day during the last 48 hours, anyway, so I haven't "lost" a whole day. And neither, I doubt, have you really.

That's all nice and all but ye....are we that far already to be needing that ?! |
Yes we do. It's things like this that will set us apart from the rest of the web, having not only friendly but informative error pages, which should not only fit in the rest of the site (those nginx error pages just look out of place, you'd have to admit..) as well as be just generally cool. Since you can edit error pages, why not? Why not make it look nice? Hell, I'd prefer them over "504 - Gateway timeout" which is barely informative, and doesn't let you know what's wrong, what it quite means or what you should do.
Anyway, thanks for the update good luck with it all, and thanks for fixing it

can you staff prevent annoying things from ever happening?
all you do is just the " apologies after sh*ts have already happened" and that's what you always do...
apologies, apologies, apologies????????? i am fed up with those apologies of yours, to be frank.
ok but thanks.
Edited by: -ES- on 10/11/09 at 4:35:41 PM |
Well, they can't prevent annoying things from happening, so to be honest, they have no real obligation to say sorry. The fact that they do is a good thing! Would you prefer the other option? Where no apologies are given? Where everyone's toes are stepped on and there are no "sorrys"?
The first step to fixing something is to admitting that there's something wrong, and then locating and fixing it. Apologies are not required, but they are nice.

Aggree with -Atriedes-
also...
That f**ktard said:

|
Are you a idiot, the fact that its "already happened" means they fixed it. And also you usually apologize after somethings happened. Its like saying sorry before you punch someone .
/end rand
Sorry if that didn't make sense i kind of lost track of my thoughts while thinking ^.^
|
Apologies are nice, yeah of course not needed.
I prefer prevention to apologies.
Can't they prevent it? if not, why?
