It does not matter if it was a copycat of TC, that is perfectly legal. It would only be illegal if the website physically stole TC's code, and I am not just talking HTML people. The code needed to physically steal TC would have to be in PHP format, and it cannot be copied just by viewing the page source. The only reason why TC would have been successful in closing down this website would have been because of the images, which would automatically be under copyright.
I bet you don't even know what the game was.

If I remember reading one of your past posts you said something along the lines of:
"We came up for the idea of Torn City from an old game we used to play. We saw a bunch of flaws in it so myself and Quacks attempted to make a game without all of the problems that it had."
It sounds to me like you were using someone elses concept... hmm...
Also, everyone knows this game to be Hobo-Wars.
Did they attempt to shut you down for "Copyright Infringement"?

We have managed to successfully shut down our first copycat website that went against our copyright. We are also considering reclaiming costs and damages. They had taken many of our designs and ideas, in some cases even images and HTML code. This is a warning to all TC copycats, and webmasters that use the popular ‘mccodes’ which goes against our copyright conditions… We are watching you.

It is not possible. It would be more likely for TC to be going against the MC Codes copyright. Can anyone remember TC BETA a few years ago? You are only allowed to make one website with MC Codes, and your BETA website in not allowed to be open to the public. Yet TC had a BETA website open to the public, and I highly doubt that they bothered to purchase a second license. So far I believe that TC has gone against copyright twice. 1. With TC Radio, as explained in one of my previous posts; and 2. Going against the MC Codes License.

I'm not quite sure I understand you here.
mccodes as far as I can see is a game engine, and not against anybodies copyright.
Stealing code and images, well that's against copyright, as it's this sites and it's creators.
I'm not clear how mccodes comes into this, if someone has bought their code.
I'm sure if I bought code from mccodes, and created a lets say space gangster game, (using no code or images from here) then I'd be suing mccodes if someone came along and said mccodes code is copyright.
Or is that what you are saying mccodes have stolen your code?

I think torn city, needs to focus more on copyrighting ideas and turn on the green magic we saw this time last year.
however ched has managed to put out a few major updates which have served well.

Personally I would seriously consider legal action. The copycat webmasters are usually script kiddies anyway!
I'm a webmaster myself and know how infuriating it is to have your code and scripts leached from your site by some loser.

Maybe you should actually read the thread, the script was not leeched. It is a buggy code that can be bought online, and also happens to be the base for TC. The website only got shut down because the administrator decided to use some of TC's pictures. If you were a good webmaster, then you would know that competition is vital.

Yes i agree. There are alot of sites out there just like this one. But have the most disrespectful people on them exploiting you to their advantage. I reckon this is the best site ever i have come accross. There seems to have been one hell of an effort to keep this place up and running and the staff are as honest as your average police officer. I salute the staff and adcmins of this site. Keep up the fantastic site. No other site can beat this site weather it be legit or a copycat fake!

I've seen the attack script of TC (thanks to a corrupted old admin) and that of mccode , nobody with a few brains would use the TC one as it's a nightmare going against all conventions there are. Not saying that mccode is better it's as bad but doesn't resemble in the slightest way to TC style of scripting.
*. ideas can't be stolen, else torncity could shut you down
*. mccode, no clue why you are so afraid of mccode games 99% of these games are milking machines and players learn that pretty fast.
*. isn't php and html open source, so in theory everything produced stays open source if the viewable source code is available else you need to encrypt it
I guess DMCA agents are laughing when they receive a complaint

At least they aren't afraid to post there as old experience tells that TC staff likes to ban people by going negative about TC. Hopefully that changed and power/ego ass kissing staff doesn't exist anymore on TC.
Oh and if you are going to be cmpliant with law...
A new EU/UK law, following the US. Volunteers can't exist anymore on commercial sites. So in other words your 40 staff members will have to be paid the minimum wage.
Mappower ireland has tons of game staff applications open since, for european based games. From simple helper up to high level staff positions.

What you are doing now is making false assumptions, due to the fact that your text-based-rpg-style game isn't as great as some of the others.
Why don't you take on web-games that's 100x times larger than yours, they have in general also stolen "your" ideas?
