There was an unexpected downtime during 10:00 - 11:00. Our server DB3 crashed at around 10:00. No data was harmed and service was restored as normal at around 11:00. During this time, we performed another test of our backup system, which ran fine.
Servers will always crash every now and then. Sometimes data will be lost, sometimes it will just cause a little downtime. If data is lost, you can rest assured that we have stable backups from our nightly downtime. Worst case scenario - everyone is put back to where they were a few hours before.

If one server crashes, why doesnt the other servers kick in and take the traffic?
Because it was a database server that crashed, not a webserver. Webservers actually crash quite a lot, but you don't notice a thing.

Servers always crash every now and then. It's not a fixable issue, they just do, in general. If your home computer did as much work as the TC servers did, they would crash too, probably twice as much. Luckily this is the first crash we have had in a long time.Super secret reinforced spam barrier 2.0

I think no one can stop a server from crashing.
But as Ched said it's a good thing they make backups so we won't loose much if we loose something. So keep up the good work

uh no chedburn, servers should not "just crash". Either it was a software or hardware problem, you need to figure out which, or it will just happen again.

No, they do just crash. The average life of a hard working server is only around 3 years. It's common sense and a fact of life.Super secret reinforced spam barrier 2.0
