This may make it invariably harder for me if I am rejected in the application process, but here are a few rules of thumb for future applicants.
1) Read the application questions carefully and reply accordingly. Based on -Clansdancer's initial post, certain applicants may have not responded to the application in an appropriate manner.
2) Be specific. What makes you, as an applicant, stand out from all the other applicants? With over 1300 applications, it can be inferred that many of the rule-abiding, crime-committing applicants will have similar playing styles.
3) Specialize in your understanding. It is likely that most applicants already provide help to those who lack knowledge in areas of the game. Display your understanding or wisdom in areas that may not be commonly brought up. For example, you may have a creative thought process that others may not have, or can contribute to the game in terms of content. Reveal this in the application process.
4) EQ. While this is not critical to the process, it can be a factor. Display emotional control when appropriate. Or reveal that you have learned from your past experiences. As a staff member, you will be dealing with people who may not be related to your area of expertise, or you may be scrutinized unfairly just for being part of the staff. Having control will help more than it will hurt.
5) Enjoy the game. (But don't forget to enjoy real life as well.)

Really nicely said. Couldn't have written it better myselfe.. (but well that's cause i can't write that well lol anyways..)
I just wanted to add a little line, which i like to say
Strenght - You are strong alone, but work together as a team and you become invincible
I read it on a photo that were hang up on the business of a relative of mine.
But this always works the other way around, like you said, does one member of the team does someting wrong. The whole team will be judged, human nature..
