Yeah, thanks for the heads up... Hope all goes well... But I'm with Mr Pink, on one part... I say take the server down a little longer then you'd like to and make sure everything is working well before bring it back up... If we know in advance like this it's a not a big deal.
Either way, thanks for the heads up and again hope everything goes smoothly

i think you can do it this time, always successful when something like this has been worked over it for several hours and days.
P.S. the downtimes for upgrades that failed lately weren't that much anyway, really unreasonable to complain about them.

Time will tell whether things go smoothly. Hopefully it'll work but you never know until it goes live.

They were more then they were "promised", which IMO is enough reason to complain.
Tell me? How hard is it to say:
"At exactly 8pm, we pull the plug. Make sure your energy and nerve bars are empty.
We will welcome you back at 11pm."
....and don't put a message up, saying "We welcome you back in a few moments"....and keep that message up there for hours.
I tell you, it ain't rocket science.

Me i'd of got in an infrastructure solution engineer, someone who spends millions on IT.
Someone that could design an adapative load balanced, fault tollerent, mirrored solution, that utilises some very innovative virtualisation and clustering.
Some very clever and or well paid people do play this game, and some of us have had "years and years" of 100% uptime on server systems / data farms with no magical days / weeks of downtime.
ps. I sacked my last IT guy that failed to keep check on backups.

Well TC and downtime isnt anything new to the most of us. As long as it gets back up and running again most of us are ok with it.
