This update clearly wasn't well thought out.
There are MANY MANY better ways to deal with this issue then this,
Make it so people can only take out what they have put in..
Make an extra confirmation screen.
Both of these would be ALOT better then making faction theft legal

The idea of only allowing someone to take what they donate is a good idea.
Its clear this idea was not thought out at all. A system should of been made to make is safer to store cash in a faction before its been made legal to try and steal from it. I have had to remove access to my factions vault to all but the co (as thats a fixed option) and our banking staff.

In my opinion this is how you learn a lesson for your mistakes, for Val, its a very expensive lesson, and the entire city gets to learn it at his expense. This is a city full of untrustworthy criminals and that has been proven over and over again just not on this scale, Players get ripped off all the time, its been mentioned a few times that this would be fixed immediately if it happened to a staff member, but inversely if it happened to a new player with a smaller amount of cash then it would go completely over looked and uncared about. I dont want to piss a bunch of players off by posting an opinion that is opposite of the majority in this thread, but it really comes down to not trusting anyone with billions of your dollars, this game is supposed to mimick the real world as best as it can, would you trust someone youve never met face to face with even $5 of your cash? This really is the biggest Organized Crime ever pulled off in Torn, JusticeR is obviously the lowest of the low lifes in this city and I expect he will be treated as such for the rest of his TC life. Bottom line is TC is a life of crime, drugs, knife/gun/brick fights and apparently ripping off your fake friends. The only way I see V getting any money back is if all of those players who feel so bad and enraged by what has been done to him, give him some cash/properties/stocks whatever you have to help him get back on his feet and then spend some money and energy on bountying/hospitalizing JusticeR and anyone involved in the planned muggings to infinity and beyond.
This is a simple economical issue here. It has been written that the economy of TC is in turmoil. We all have seen the changes that limit us all from making the money we used to make in the game. The reason these changes were made is also simple. For one, donations to TC are down. Most of the reason donations are down is the real life economy all of us and our families are going through. Another part is the fact that there are so many people in the game that have enough TC money to buy their donator status without spending real life money. Since the almighty Chedburn himself could not change the real world economy, he went to what he could change. This explains all of the recent changes to the game as we now know it.
This brings up the obvious conflict of interest. A conflict of interest (COI) occurs when an individual or organization is involved in multiple interests, one of which could possibly corrupt the motivation for an act in the other. This meaning that Chedburn benefits when money is removed from circulation. This will ultimately result in someone somewhere donating real life money to the game. The conflict of his interests would be him returning this money that has already been removed. This would result in someone somewhere using TC money and not real life money to buy their donator status in the game. So if you owned a business like Chedburn, would you do what is right by returning the money to its rightful owner, which would possibly result in a loss of your own money ? Or would you tell everyone that there is no way of tracing this money, which would probably result in a gain of your money ?
I personally have owned, and been an admin on several RPG dames such as this one. As an admin having access to the c-panel of a server, i know that it is totally possible to access EVERYTHING that has EVER been done on your server. We need no further evidence of this than the taking back of all of the merits ever used in increasing our lifebars. In my case they were able to go back almost 1700 days. So when i hear that they have no way of going back a couple or few days to trace the money, I know this is a crock of shit.
I however have an effective solution to this simple economic issue. I am asking that all players in TC
DO NOT DONATE ANY REAL MONEY TO TC UNTIL THE MONEY IS RETURNED TO THE AFFLICTION FACTION, ALL OF THE PERSONS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SCAM ARE FEDDED, AND A FAIR SYSTEM IS PUT IN PLACE TO ELIMINATE SCAMMING ONCE AND FOR ALL

So since it starts on the 12th... it was illegal what happened today and will be dealt with right?
Here is why this can't be allowed to happen
Theft from faction bank/armoury
Taking cash/points/items in a faction without the leaders approval, gaining leadership under false pretenses and refusing to return control of the faction to the rightful leader etc.
I was told by a couple secretaries, that this was not a faction theft. The reason behind this is that said player sent me 90billion of my own money while I was sleeping. Since he had access to the faction bank (with his 5bil in the faction) it was ok for him to send me my 90billion while I was sleeping, while he had muggers ready.
The point here is this. I did NOT give him permission to touch MY money in the faction. By giving me my money, he was putting his hands on my money, not his. Thus stealing my money from the faction to send to me. This was not his to do so with, especially without my permission. As said in the above rule, Theft from Faction Bank/Amoury.
Now lets throw another point out there. Since I didn't send the money to myself, who is to say that that money was mine to begin with that he sent?? Perhaps it was the factions cash, not mine? Thus JusticeR just stole 90b from the Affliction faction, and sent it to me (Valesh). Thus I should still have 90billion in the faction.. as it wasn't my money that was sent to me at all, as I didn't send it nor authorize that I wanted MY... so there is no ownership of that money, besides to say that it is from the Affliction faction, not JusticeRs money... that we know for sure. So he did steal 85billion from the faction to send to me (Valesh). Thus JusticeR should be fedded for faction theft, as it wasn't his money, nor mine that he sent me.. but money that was the factions.
Game Bug Abuse
Failing to report a fluke/loophole in the game and taking advantage of it is forbidden.
This brings me to my third and almostfinal point. It is obvious that this was set up by said player who mugged me first (Sifonjer) and said player who sent me the cash (JusticeR). Exactly 23 seconds after the cash was given out, I was mugged, until that 90billion turned into 13million, all the while I am sleeping. So since this is a gray area, with no set code of rules, it is obviously a loophole that has been exploited. See rule here... as they knew that staff would say that there is nothing they can do about it.
Thus, both of them should be fedded.

My final point, is this. By allowing this to happen, staff, admin and rule setters are allowing this to be a precedent that is being set... making this OK to happen to everyone. By not punishing them, and allowing this to happen, this is only going to get worse and happen more often.

I have had numerous complaints/bug reports with staff too when things have went missing from my account...like 7 merits, rare collectibles from my display, etc...and of course nothing at all was done about it. I was made to feel like a piece of shit and like I didnt matter, because to the staff and Ched I dont. There is too many people here now that the individual player doesnt mean shit here anymore. We could just quit and it wouldnt matter to them.
The crap that I see going on here makes me sick. There is no justice or help for all of the honest, hard working players that actually make this game fun and make it what it is.
So sorry to hear this happened to you V and to your faction. I honestly cannot believe some of the things that go on in this game and some of the things that people are allowed to get away with.

Staff will be removing any affiliation with faction scamming. They will not step forward in any way. If a co-leader steals the faction bank, staff will not jail anyone and will not credit anyone.
This will start on the 12th of June. Please make sure you fully trust everyone who has access to your faction bank. We're giving you this week to prepare.
Please note, currently anyone who steals from a faction will receive a federal jail sentence, until the 12th of June.
These steps have been put in to action for many reasons. Mainly:
We do not take any action against company scamming, why factions?
The huge difficulty staff go through to resolve these issues.
The instant by-passing of warnings.
The inability to determine who owns the money.
The loopholes around this rule.
The deterrents should be player-made. If someone steals from you, you make them pay yourself.

Torn City is ran based on favoritism and that needs to change. Just because one player is not liked by Staff doesnt mean they should be ignored when a player breaks the rules. I am very disappointed with what happened to Valesh and how ignorant the staff were to him because his Friends went and complained without him even being Online to get support himself.

Umm he didn't get to keep the money champ. It was the first time this guy got fedded for faction theft. First offense = 30 days in fed... Is it that hard to grasp? C'mon let's put our thinking caps on.
Yes it sucks and I am totally happy he is in fed. But the cash got or is getting returned and the perpetrator has been jailed (barring the mugger). No it isn't like getting robbed in real life. It's like getting robbed in a fantasy game and having your fantasy money returned.

I totally agree with this. If we stop buying donator packs and instead buy them with TC money, we can show Ched our message. And if we stand strong with it then that will show them. But I doubt enough people will do it

So true. I find the staff incredibly unhelpful, and the best ones are the new ones because they actually care about what they do and want to prove themselves. Call it passion if you want, but I think its what staff should do.
By making this rule what do staff actually do? And how will this benefit anyone. I want to be able to trust my TC friends, but when we see what happened to V how can we do this? The only people I can trust are people I know in real life, because if anything does happen regarding someone I don't know in real life, I won't be able to deal with it and obviously neither will the shitty staff !
The new rules are bullcrap and we were told that we would be involved in major decisions such as these, but I didn't see any voting or anything. Ched thinks that everything is his decision, without consulting the people who play Torn City and actually make him money, and we shouldn't stand for it anymore.

This is a simple economical issue here. It has been written that the economy of TC is in turmoil. We all have seen the changes that limit us all from making the money we used to make in the game. The reason these changes were made is also simple. For one, donations to TC are down. Most of the reason donations are down is the real life economy all of us and our families are going through. Another part is the fact that there are so many people in the game that have enough TC money to buy their donator status without spending real life money. Since the almighty Chedburn himself could not change the real world economy, he went to what he could change. This explains all of the recent changes to the game as we now know it.
This brings up the obvious conflict of interest. A conflict of interest (COI) occurs when an individual or organization is involved in multiple interests, one of which could possibly corrupt the motivation for an act in the other. This meaning that Chedburn benefits when money is removed from circulation. This will ultimately result in someone somewhere donating real life money to the game. The conflict of his interests would be him returning this money that has already been removed. This would result in someone somewhere using TC money and not real life money to buy their donator status in the game. So if you owned a business like Chedburn, would you do what is right by returning the money to its rightful owner, which would possibly result in a loss of your own money ? Or would you tell everyone that there is no way of tracing this money, which would probably result in a gain of your money ?
I personally have owned, and been an admin on several RPG dames such as this one. As an admin having access to the c-panel of a server, i know that it is totally possible to access EVERYTHING that has EVER been done on your server. We need no further evidence of this than the taking back of all of the merits ever used in increasing our lifebars. In my case they were able to go back almost 1700 days. So when i hear that they have no way of going back a couple or few days to trace the money, I know this is a crock of shit.
I however have an effective solution to this simple economic issue. I am asking that all players in TC
DO NOT DONATE ANY REAL MONEY TO TC UNTIL THE MONEY IS RETURNED TO THE AFFLICTION FACTION, ALL OF THE PERSONS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SCAM, AND A FAIR SYSTEM IS PUT IN PLACE TO ELIMINATE SCAMMING ONCE AND FOR ALL
People of TC, If we stand for nothing, we will fall for anything. Lets send a message to Chedburn in a way he would understand.
I totally agree with this. If we stop buying donator packs and instead buy them with TC money, we can show Ched our message. And if we stand strong with it then that will show them. But I doubt enough people will do it

I'm happy that some semblance of justice has been served in Val's case, but the fact remains that legalized faction theft is wrong, and the admins should work with the players in creating some sort of safeguard to prevent faction theft.
Legalizing individual scamming was okay solely due to the implementation of the trade function. Legal scamming in the absence of the trade function would have made the game practically unplayable.
Some similar feature should be added to factions. There are several good suggestions in this thread; I'd suggest some admins and coders give it a good look and see if they can realistically implement something that would safeguard against faction theft, and at the same time legalize it to free up admins.
But if no feature can be implemented, I'd suggest instead hiring many new staffers whose sole duties was to investigate allegations of faction theft.

Maybe this will lead to factions comprised of individuals who are actually friends and trust each other instead of just clumps of high powered players. Factions are moving in the direction of being more war oriented, and everyone loved the thought of it. Bu they now complain that their war machine won't be as effective of an ATM as it once was?
Decide what the hell you want before bashing Ched and the staff.
Maybe there can be two options for the organization that a player may join.
1)A traditional faction geared for war. Just like the aggressive factions of today.
Or
2) Have the option of joining a "club" or whatever you want to call it.(peaceful faction of the past) You can sit there, not be attacked, store cash, and chat in your forums to your heart's content.
Maybe strip the benefits from the "clubs" and reserve them for the aggressive factions that actually have some cojones.

This is a blemish, most of the updates are great, and you guys are being kinda one sided on ched, I mean it raises questions about staff, but ultimately he has made wise decisions on the whole.
