Ok.. soo.. Davz says the hardware is fine... and well you will continue doing whatever to the code that you think needs to be done...
How about the connections? I would guess you had asked your providers already, but.. just in case... there could be connection problems at the datacenter to the backbone, or in your LAN, possibly.

I don't get lag when I connect, but I get a "too many connections" message a lot.

I've done a persistant ping at good and bad times and rarely have any bad results, and certainly no disconnections at an IP layer.
