Those who spent them on stats possibly years ago, have actually gained a great deal when exponential gains are considered...

Giving the merits back and REDUCING the life (gained through non-incremental merits) would at least reduce the gap between one who spent all their merit in the old system and one who just sign up and would NEVER be able to come even close to the ''older'' players.

However, I am for putting back the old system, that is the non-incremental merit.

on that your wrong thats what hos job points are for ... just need to work there a lot longer

I think the system ran long enough for everyone to have at least had a chance to use it fairly. It should have mostly evened out by now, and anyone who was low enough level to not have gotten the opportunity to gain from the non-incremental stat upgrades wouldn't have anything to lose anyway. I say remove the bonuses as you are able, and refund all the merits. I spent one on an item when I was a young player and didn't know the value of merits, and would be happy not getting that back, if you could track which were spent where. I just want the game to be fair.

What about the merits that were bought with 500 points?
do we get those back too? I wouldn't like to lose the bonus that I got from them...and not get the merits back.

I am kind of on the fence with this one, I liked being able to raise life with merits, the other stats were useless but more life gives an edge in a fight. I think i wasted plenty of merits on crime exp and stats that i would like to see back, but it may be worth it to NOT get them back if it means i get to keep the ones i dumped into health, that is a major advantage.

This game is fundamentally unfair, Romano.

Because stat gains are exponential those with higher stats are gaining at a higher rate. Assume two players who are equally active and equal houses. Whoever has higher stats now is still going to have higher stats 10 years from now. The stats differential between the example players is only going to grow.

I am gaining stats faster than many players who have been playing longer than me. There are people who I will never catch, no matter what I do. I don't care about that.

People can cry about imbalances; it just doesn't make a difference. If you are a brand new player, in any game, everybody can defeat you.

good post!

lol if anyone on TC should be complaining about "unfair" it should be def whores like myself who spent years training def even though its harder than every other stat to train.....only to have ched f up the battle system so def becomes like 1/5th as effective as it was.

i have 150mill def and idiots with like 30mill strength can hit me.

THAT my friends is unfair

I'm feelin' merits from incremental upgrades should be given back. It's unreasonably unfair that we have merits spent when there are new options that weren't available to us when we spent them.

quick question:

do you know how many merits people spent on life?

By Lieutenant_Wolf [73234]
I have another concern.

awhile back you could abuse the option to buy merits with points by getting to a high level and avoiding merits. This allowed certain players to buy obscene amounts of merits, then they go and earn others like the rest of us. Meanwhile, players who already had those merits are restricted.

Id suggest reforming that along with this update if fairness is your intent.

I second these concerns.

my point here is that people before had the option to use points on life, but that option has been TAKEN AWAY.

it does not matter if you "spent so much time on it" or whatever, it is no longer an option. if you have stocks, and the companies you invested in disappear (go under), what happens to your money? your money disappears too

to make things fair, reset the non-incremental bonuses. this IS fair. as i said, its not a personal thing, because i personally chose NOT to do health bonus. but now the choice is not available. thats the point

when banking interest was changed, people had the OPTION to receive their merits back. THIS DID NOT MEAN THEY COULD KEEP THE OLD PERCENTAGES IF THEY DIDNT!!!

what does this mean???

have the option to have your non-incrementals transfer into points spent on the new incremental system. whoever made the post about the banking did not think that one through

edit:: what i mean here is that the non-incrementals should AUTOMATICALLY transfer into merits spent into the incremental system. then you have the OPTION to get your merits back instead.

If there are two people with the same level and merits, and one spends all their merits at 30 on health. The other decides to wait until level 40 to spend them. I would generally argue that the 2nd person makes the longer term, strategic choice. Strategy should not be trying to predict updates.

You still have the choice to spend to spend them on HP, as will everyone else.

Did or didnt Ched said that there was an update coming concerning the non-incremental upgrades? They should have used those merits then. I used my merits when I got them, I didnt see the need to wait for a 'strategic' level to use them. I knew I wanted to build my character this way and I did it.

As I stated earlier in this thread, if my life would get reset, I would have a max life of 101250, and 164926 with 10/10. Which is about half of what I have now. Meaning that all those years I spend building my HP would be worthless.

I dont want merits returned to me.

I used merits on silly things, like cash, and stats back in the day.
but why should i get the chance to use them again, when i knew no better then.

Yes, the merits i used on life give me an advantage over newer player.
but, isnt that what happnes when you start a game way before other people, you build some advantages?

no... not advantages that others can NEVER catch up on. There's a difference between a disadvantage an active and innovative player can overcome, but ones that cannot be overcome because they are no longer available, seem completely ridiculous... a collectible is one thing; now lets be honest, has it made much difference to the people that could beat you before bl0ndie... I doubt it, considering the likely magnitude of their strength. However, has it meant those younger than you that significant amount harder to hit you, possibly. Either way, its an in game option that is CENTRAL to the game, NOT just an item they cannot receive any more, worth money, and some kudos!

hence cheds idea is good, to remove that benefit that we (i have invested merits too) should NOT have (removed as he has suggested). It is however, NOT the best.

it seems incredibly simple to me. hes going to upset people by removing merits EVEN though it is a fairly fair option (apart from the point i have already made and have quoted below); however, an equally easy choice to implement, is to introduce the 50x level merit upgrade option once again. people can pick and choose to maximise their life at will! schimplez.

my first point, quoting for completeness to this post:
By Vaticanlazy [99178]
ARGH CHEDBURN! think.... youre still going to get moaning from players who have spent merits on life SINCE the update, as they spent merits on further life because they already had high base life, thus the multiplier of 1.05 (compounded) or 5% per upgrade was a decent boost.

have you thought about this, as your post CLEALY talks only about merits before the update!

(on a side note this is not ME whinging I voted for yes return the merits, only because it is the less of two evils!)
