If you're going to take away life then you seriously need to increase the effectiveness of defence/armour
Strength whores are tough enough already without having this :/ It'd be even easier for them to beat us....
That's where I stand, if you're going to take away life...fine....but increase the effectiveness of defence/armour to counter this....maybe put my armour upgrade suggestion in too
why return all the merrits? you had to make a choice back them with the options you had beforehand and you didi it. Now with the new system it doesnt seem "fair". BS. I personally feel kinda screwed if it goes this way. I consider myself one of the "older" players(Age: 1,873). The system is new and adapt to it as we all had to do all the time. The game changes now and then and i dont think resetting all the merrits is fair for me and my fellow older players...
I have to be careful how I word this Ched as I know you don't like sarcastic comments.
So, If you are changing the game to suit the new donators to increase your revenue stream, and thus lure them into some false sense of security that they have a chance in hell of achieving the dizzy heights of becomming BB or even beating him. Then this is your new business model, and as players we have to accept it or don't play.
If we don't play then we stop buying DP's, and the lower levels can't sell dps to get cash up and increase their stakes in the game.
= You just hurt your revenue stream.
If you are doing this to try and meet the middle ground placate the older players by refunding some of their merits whilst bowing over to the newer loudest players then, you have clearly missed the point.
You can't do a partial reset on merits, It has to be all or nothing. And how are you going to verify what merits were spent when, do you remeber the great crash, where everyone lost several months of everything. You should remember it, you had people turn up outside your parents house. What ahout the merits spent just before that crash, How can you verify what was spent on what? Seeing as at that time you pleaded the backup was not restoreable!!
I see lots of holes in this business model, Yes this is your way of probing the waters, you don't want a mass riot, online or offline. So you are doing the right thing by bringing it to the forums.
And yes you can't please all of the people all of the time, however, I believe you should stop trying to please those who whine the loudest.
(which are nearly always the newest players)
You got to be in the paper showing off your £1,000,000 + you have made from this game, by its reputation. In business you are only as good as your reputation, if you sell your integrity by harming your bread and butter customers. You will soon have nothing. And then you can't just reset it back....
Think about this, for goodness sake, there are enough older players here who have supported you for over 4-5 years. Not many online games last that long. Don't jepordise longevity for a quick buck.
If needed create a couple of polls, or even use players and not staff to start a think tank. On future upgrades and where the game could focus. And don't give them silly icons or make them think they power or influence in the game.
Ched as an "older" player I support your decision to reset merits and it makes perfect sense to do so.
I am embracing this change fully, and cannot wait to see what is coming in the future, continue to work with this business model you are creating, and I see successful growth coming your way!

If My merits on life removed, and my life changed to suit this, i will have about 74k life
I can fist for more life than that
So imagine those who are a lower level than myself, they will have even less life.
This will make the attacking system a joke.

lol Rob. If I wasn't mistaken you sound a little bitter about this.
Giving the merits back and REDUCING the life (gained through non-incremental merits) would at least reduce the gap between one who spent all their merit in the old system and one who just sign up and would NEVER be able to come even close to the ''older'' players.
However, I am for putting back the old system, that is the non-incremental merit.

Give 'em back. It's been done before with the bank (and something else I think.) Yes, it hurts older players who have massive amounts of life but they are not the majority (as the poll is showing.) Those that have been here a long time still stay and just roll with the changes because TC may not be perfect or fair but it is one of the best going right now.
No, early players just had the benefit of using the non-incremental updates. I don't think that you should give the merits back and turn the bonusses around. I think for some persons this will cause a major fall back in the game because they used their merits only for such things. Myself for example, I used many of my merits to gain a high life. When those merits are givin back I will lose many of my life. Therefore I'm against giving back merits.
It may not be fair for everyone, but that's just a benefit for players who have played this game for a longer time.

On a side note, I am torn about the whole refunding of merits. I am for it because 4 years ago I spent a lot of merits on crime success, like a giant idiot noob. I'd love to have those back. At the same time, I've played for 4 years and had the opportunity to use the merits on the system available at the time. Just because someone with an ID in the millions wasn't around at the time doesn't mean I have to suffer for them. I rather appreciate the life I have, and the dozen or so merits I dumped into the non-incremental life upgrade. So for me it's a double-edged sword no matter what.
I either get a crapload of wasted merits back and lose a ton of life, or keep my life and don't get somewhere around 40-ish wasted merits back.
Either way, I voted yes because as long as you keep trying to improve upon the system, add more incremental upgrades for merits, then I'd absolutely love to continue to play the game provided. But let it be known that it is generally against all rules of any game ever to have do-overs.
You screw up, you stick with it and play with your screw up for better or for worse. I, for one, never complained that I wasted my merits on crime success. I just went with it cause I had no other option. (You've never before given the players an option to fix a mistake they made.)
I was thinking the same thing as Azriel and Taboo. I worked/clicked damn hard to get my merits so I could upgrade my life because my stats are so low that my life makes some people think twice about attacking. This is how I chose to play the game and I do not think using my merits on this was a waste.
Ched either needs to make everyone hit for less (everyone whines) or make everyone's natural life higher (everyone wins) because if my life goes down from almost 140k to 54k because Ched is so concerned that people "wasted" merits on things that he put in place I know that I won't be the only person that wont be happy.
The greedy people that are voting for our merits to be returned are obviously the people who spent them on yak swords and stats when they were newbs. Well I wasted some too but I'd rather keep my life than have over 60 merits returned.
I am not that great at math but I am assuming that if I had maxxed out life with the new system over a year ago when I first starting spending merits on life that it would be better than me maxxing it out now at my current level which I am now holding because I am so confused what to do now that the whole way I play this game has been changed.
